Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, it was my birthday. Also today, same as the past five years, my family forgot my mine and threw a party for my 5-year-old twin sisters who I share a birthday with. FML
Today, it was my daughter's 11th birthday party. One kid broke a vase, another lost a (baby) tooth, and two kids, including mine, tested positive for Covid. My kid parties harder than I ever have. FML
Today, we celebrated our daughter's sixth birthday. Out of the 30 invited, 7 showed up. The last one to cancel this morning told us she was ill. My daughter was in tears as this meant the last remaining playmate couldn't come. My wife later saw her tagged on Facebook at another party. FML
Today, I was at my sixteenth birthday party. My guests consisted of my grandma who I live with, and my 2-year-old cousin she was babysitting. FML
Today, I went to a party. No one there was under 60. I'm 16 and it was the only party I've been to all year. FML
Today, it's my birthday. I am a triplet. In my first class, everyone sang happy birthday to my sister. Her friends got her balloons too. My other sister's friends got her flowers. Everyone forgot I was their sister and all of my own friends forgot that it was my birthday. FML
Today, I emailed 10 parents inviting them to my son's birthday party. All 10 emailed back saying their kids had to get a cavity filled. FML
Today, it was my mother's birthday. My 5 year old brother and 85 year old grandma decided to decorate the house with balloons and a blow up "people" they found in my room. FML
Today, and recently, many of my friends have been acting strangely. My birthday is coming up soon, so I thought maybe they were planning a surprise party. Nope. Turns out they've just been secretly hanging out without me. FML
Today, all of my friends bailed from the birthday party I was throwing myself. This was also after they had encouraged me for months to have one, knowing I'd never had my birthday celebrated before. FML

they're technically not 10 years old, as their bodies froze at 1 year if they died then.

do you mean like a family gathering to remember them or like full on party with hats an cake... cos I'd say the first was perfectly acceptable and ,if you think that is an fml having to attend, imagine how the parents are feeling.

Irregardless, IMO, this was a rude and disrespectful FML. It does not impact the OP's life at all. // All parents grieve differently, and to visit the children each year is a sign of respect/acknowledgement. This couple didn't lose just one of three. They lost ALL three within the year. Show a little courtesy.

no, I agree with the OP. The parents are more than welcome to continue grieving for their children (I would never suggest they should "get over it", but they should not make others feel obliged to come along to such things as birthday parties. The OP said they "had" to go - perhaps it was a family member or a friend who guilted them into coming. That's wrong of the parents, especially ten years later. "Showing a little courtesy" would be taking the parents cooked meals in the weeks after the babies died, and attending the funeral. Not being obliged to attend birthday parties ten years later. Yes, it is horrible for their parents that their children are not coming back. But it's wrong of them to continue forcing it onto their friends and family after ten years. I have a friend whose twins died in the hours before they were born. Five years later she still grieves for them but she does not force her friends to grieve or remember them (even though they do), let alone make people attend a birthday party.

irregardless isnt a word, and if it was, itd mean the opposite of regardless, which would make no sense in your context..
