Today, I was verbally abused by a customer at my job. Apparently, wearing "ugly, thick-framed hipster glasses as a fashion statement is a HUGE faux pas." These are my actual prescription glasses, and "faux pas" is not pronounced "fox paws". FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, while I was waiting for a bus, a nutjob-looking dude walked up to me, then hissed, "You hipster scum, you don't even need those glasses," before forcibly removing them and snapping them in half. I was wearing regular clothes, and those prescription glasses cost me $500. FML
Today, my wife and I went shopping for new glasses at a local store, but we didn't really get to actually buying one. On our way back, she warned me that my glasses of choice should in no way be 'those big arty ones'. When I asked her why not, she told me that I 'look gay enough already'. FML
Today, I thought the cashier said the new blouse I picked out was ugly as she was ringing me up. I'm really self-conscious about my fashion sense, so I snapped and started yelling at her. It wasn't until she was close to tears did I find out she said "lovely" not "ugly". So, that's another store I can't go back to. FML
Today, I inadvertently gave passers by the middle finger as I tried to stop my glasses from sliding off my face. FML
Today, a customer made a huge scene at work because all of our reading glasses are made in China, and apparently any "moral" person should be repulsed by that. FML
Today, at work, somebody stole my sunglasses. Fed up with the constant theft in my office, I stormed up to my boss, as he had long ago promised to catch the thief. He listened patiently to my rant before pointing out that my sunglasses were on my head. FML
Today, while out shopping, a middle aged man snatched my sunglasses off my face, threw them off the ground, and stomped on them, saying, "That’s what you get for trying to look cool, asshole!" I suffer from light-induced migraines. FML
Today, I was written up. Too many customers complained that I don't wear makeup or do my hair. I got written up for being ugly. FML
Today, I got yelled at for providing horrible customer service, in a store I don't even work for. FML
Today, my boss "borrowed" my prescription sunglasses off my desk. She crashed her car because they made her dizzy, and thinks I should pay for the damages. FML

I feel your pain OP, I have hipsterish glasses too because small ones don't suit me and the hipster ones were cheapest. It was horrible of the guy to verbally abuse you based on your glasses - people wear them for all sorts of reasons. Even if your glasses hadn't been prescription, he had no right to be so rude. Who cares if some people wear glasses as a fashion statement rather than out of necessity? We wear all sorts of things for no reason just so we can look good.

58- it depends on the prescription you have, how much the insurance will cover and what they have on hand. This give you a very limited selection. I had 5 pair to pick from and all of them were ugly

Funny how the hipster trends have made us nerdy folk look like we are part of the hipster crowd. As if we didn't already get harrassed enough, now we get harrassed for being part of a subculture that thinks it is ironic to look like us! Why do I find myself longing for the days when I got beat up for being just a nerd?
