Today, I confided to my dad that since the recent breakup with my boyfriend of 3 months, I feel down all the time and life doesn't feel worth living anymore. His loving advice was for me to "grow the fuck up and get your sentimental head out of la-la land." FML

Today, after being dumped by my boyfriend of two years, I poured my heart out to my dad. He nodded and looked sympathetic throughout. Afterwards, I asked him what I should do. He replied, "How the hell should I know?" and awkwardly left my room. FML
Today, I came home crying after my boyfriend dumped me for another girl. My dad told me to come tell him what was wrong. I sat down and let it all out, after which he looked up from his book, into my eyes, and gave me his loving advice: "Just cry about it and move on to another bastard." FML
Today, I was feeling down following a recent breakup. My dad tried to comfort me by patting me on the back and saying everyone goes through ups and downs, "Like when I found out your mum and I were having a boy." I'm their only son. FML
Today, I went to my father for advice. I've been seeing a wonderful girl for the past month, and I feel terrible about it, because I already have a girlfriend. He said "Kill yourself" and that if I "can't even do that right" then to get out of his house, because he disowns me. FML
Today, I was sitting in my room when my dad walked in to talk. He said I'm not the son he'd hoped for, and that he'd been let down as a father. He said I should change the way I am so that he could love me more. It was the longest conversation I've had with my dad in years. FML
Today, I was having an emotional breakdown. I'm unhappy a lot and don't know why. It's very confusing. My dad yelled at me, telling me, "You have no right to be sad!" I'm even more confused now. Help. FML
Today, my boyfriend dumped me because he says I need to learn how to be happy without relying on him. I'm not a clinger, I'm just unhappy because my dad recently passed away, my best friend turned on me, and I lost out on the exchange program of my dreams. FML
Today, I found out my boyfriend has been cheating on me. My dad noticed my depression and got me to tell him what was wrong. I told him everything, and trusting him to have an intelligent suggestion, I asked him what I should do. He shrugged and said, "Fuck, sue him, I dunno." FML
Today, my dad told me that I'm a weak and negative person because I suffer from depression and anxiety, then he told me to just snap out of it. FML
Today, my boyfriend and I broke up after three years. I came home and when my dad asked what was wrong, I told him. His first reaction was, "Well damn it. Who'll go fishing with me now?" FML

dude i was going out with my bf for three years before he dumped me.i was depressed for like 6months but depressed meaning cant eat cant sleep cant listen to or watch anything w/o thinkn about him..not my life needs to be over depressed..youre krazy lady

Why? That's exactly what my father would have said and he's a wonderful parent because he was never a sycophant to his children, because he said how it was and not just what we wanted to hear, he gave us the gift of perspective. Something many people seem to lack. OP - Yeah, well done, break ups hurt princess. But save the killing yourself for when actual tragedy hits. Not a damn breakup after a three month relationship. You'll thank your Dad for this one day - as I did with mine. He sounds like a brilliant father and you'll be a lot more grounded and rational in the long run for having him in your life.

She could be a teeny bopper that was crushing on this guy for a few years, & then somehow after actually getting to call him her bf for three months, it all goes down the pooper. If that's the case, then I kinda understand. But her dad & you guys are right... she'll be ok. She just needs to toughen up & know not to get too attached next time until she knows how the guy feels about her.
