Wow, thanks, I'm cured!
Today, my dad told me that I'm a weak and negative person because I suffer from depression and anxiety, then he told me to just snap out of it. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, my dad told me that people requiring psychiatric treatment are just weak and pathetic, and what they really need is a kick up the ass and to get a fucking grip. He told me this not 30 seconds after my doctor recommended I spend some time in a facility for my severe depression. FML
Today, my dad completely disregards my mental health, insists mental disorders are just excuses for laziness in my generation, so even though I have crippling depression, at times he has no sympathy and will mercilessly bully me into “snapping out of it” and to "get a damn job already." FML
Today, my dad straight up told me I’m not allowed to be depressed because it reflects badly on him as a single parent. This was followed by a threat to confiscate my car keys if I told anyone I’m depressed, even my friends and girlfriend. FML
Today, after struggling for over a year with it, and now having it medically confirmed, I told my step-dad about my depression. He gave me a disgusted look and scoffed, "Toughen up, cunt." FML
Today, my dad stood by and nodded in agreement as my sister told me that my clinical depression is "getting REALLY old." FML
Today, my father told me that my mental health issues, which have been confirmed by multiple doctors and tests, are all caused by the fact that I'm slightly overweight and don't exercise a lot. FML
Today, I told my mom that I struggle with depression. She then told me that she thinks that I always seem to suck the life out of a room. FML
Today, my dad decided that the best way to alleviate my crippling depression is to talk to me in a baby voice. FML
Today, my father decided to "prepare" me for the real world by telling me that I'm ugly. FML
Today, my shrink diagnosed me as severely depressive, due to a lot of stress and yells at home. After the session, my parents argued about whose fault it was and then went on to yell at me for being depressive and wasting their money. FML

I'm sorry that you had to go through this. I was in college when I was diagnosed with depression and my family didn't get it until I took them to my counseling appointment. Check in with yourself everyday and remember that your feelings matter. I'm sure there are other people in your life that can support you.

Hey op! I know what it’s like trust and believe but what helps me is when i tell myself that it’s not my job to make anybody understand what I’m going through, those who are willing and That do understand will be there for you. I know it’s hard when it’s someone close to you that doesn’t understand though. Everything will be okay, take your time through the ups and downs, hang in there everything will always be okay even when it feels like it won’t ♥️

I hope your dad comes to the realization that what he said is very similar to you stabbing him in the gut and telling him to just think happy thoughts, and it will all go away.

Depression is a mental health issue, it's hard for people to wrap their mind around it and accept that it isn't just being bummed out for a bit.

Snap out of having him in your life. You need time to heal and process.
