You said yourself you're trying out a new hobby. The start is always the messiest. If pottery is something you'd find fun in don't feel bad when your creations don't end up looking like what you hoped. It's not an easy skill or craft. I know easier said than done if others don't show support or give you constructive advise and we're all our harshest nightmarish critics but try to keep at it for now.

No one is perfect right out of the gate. It takes thousands of hours to become an expert at something. Just put in the time.
