Today, I was called fatphobic for rejecting an overweight man who asked me on a date. I don’t know how to force myself to be attracted to fat people. There’s just nothing there. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, a guy I was into and who denied me because he “saw me as a friend only” began to date another girl. I asked him, “Why her and not me?” and he wouldn’t tell me. After pestering him, he finally caved in, saying, “Fine, plus sized girls are not my thing. Happy now?” So in other words, I have to lose weight to find love. FML
Today, I came to realize that dating as an overweight girl sucks. I can’t get a guy to commit/stay to save my life. I go on dating apps, and when we exchange photos or meet in person they abandon me. I know that this will change if I lose weight, but is it wrong for me to want to be loved for who I am? FML
Today, I realized that I’m undateable because of my weight. I’m 33. My entire life, I’ve always been dated in secret, guys went out with me to make fun of me behind my back, always got cheated on, always get friendzoned, etc. It’s not fair that I have to change my body type to get my chance at happily ever after. FML
Today, yet another guy friend-zoned me for being overweight when I asked him to hang out. I have Hashimoto's disease and it’s really hard for me to lose weight. I eat decently and take 20 minute walks daily. I wish I could go to an island where less superficial jerks lived so I can have a chance at love. FML
Today, I decided to quit dating. I'm a plus-sized girl and I can’t get a guy to save my life. On dating apps they run for the hills when they see my full body. I even tried dating plus-size guys and even they have standards. I fucking hate society’s “ideal” beauty norms. FML
Today, I heard the guy I love talk to a friend of his. He was telling his friend how he appreciates all my attention, affection, and random gestures such as buying him lunch sometimes, but he’ll never see me in a romantic way because I’m “too fat for his taste.” I was basically used the entire time. FML
Today, a guy I know asked me out after me losing 75lbs. I declined because I don’t want to be with someone who only wants me for my body. I asked him, “Where was this energy two years ago when I was 75lbs heavier?” He replied, “Can you blame me?” And people wonder why us women choose the bear. FML
Today, the man I've liked for so long asked me out on a date. Three years ago I fell for him and he denied me unless I "lost 100lbs” Now I've lost about 85lbs (not because of him, but for myself) and he wants to give me the time of day. I still like him, but I feel like I have to watch my weight to keep him if I say “Yes.” FML
Today, I was told it is "fatphobic" to "assume someone's weight is related to their food choices" and that I have a "problematic relationship with food." All because I didn't want to eat a bigger slice of the cake someone brought in at work. FML
Today, I told my boyfriend that I didn't want to go out with him because I was having a fat day. After ten minutes of fighting, he threw a ring box on the floor and stormed out. I basically refused his proposal because of my body issues. FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?

I'm a fatass and am against this fat accepting bullshit. I don't guilt trip people for my poor choices and don't mind to be shamed because it's anything but healthy.

Oh, well, just add "I'm not a fatphobe, some of my best friends are fat!" and you will sound exactly what the prototype of a phobe sounds like...

Physical attraction is a significant part of the initial dating process and some people are just NOT attracted to certain physical attributes. For instance, I have no interest in men who have a lot of muscle. It actually turns me off. Am I a ‘musclephobe’ for not wanting to date men who are muscular?

I agree with you, I'm the same way, but of course I realize fat just isn't attractive like being skinny is. Way I see it, if a person wants to be fat and wants to accept themselves for it, that's fine, but don't go trying to force other people to accept you.

I can't tell if this is an evolution of the 'my fat friend said it was okay' or if you two just need therapy. Fat is a medical condition, not a moral failing, and bullying people for medical symptoms is not okay.

Dating someone you're not attracted to would have been a mistake. I've tried it thinking to not give them a chance would be shallow and that they must have a highly developed social skill set to compensate. Turned out to be a waste of her and my time. I should have said no from the start. She's in a new relationship now, so just goes to show you theirs someone for everyone.

I agree that we should encourage people to live healthy lifestyles...however you are NOT obligated to date anyone you don't want to. I'm picky and not ashamed of it.

Some of you really just don’t get it. “Fat acceptance bullshit, poor choices, encouraging them to live healthy lifestyles, etc” is harmful bc you assume every overweight person is like that by CHOICE. I was born with 3 different hereditary autoimmune disorders that have weight gain and lethargy as side effects (among plenty of other debilitating side effects). Nothing could have prevented this. I’ve always been overweight, even when I eat vegetarian, low sugar, low carb, etc. even when I went to the gym weekly I was STILL overweight. Y’all are too quick to make assumptions. Body positivity is not “supporting bad lifestyles” it’s about letting people know they’re worth love, worth equal treatment and aren’t “disgusting monsters” like some of y’all act like they are. The way some of you talk perpetuates that mindset. Why is it so hard to treat others with kindness? Side note op: I don’t think you’re fat phobic for not being attracted to them. Rather than that, it might be a bias, but I wouldn’t call it a phobia.

I am a fat chick and I am completely ok with people honestly not being attracted to fat people--as long as you're not a 500 pound weab neckbeard with a "no fat chicks" tshirt.

🤣 I'm chubby and I'm ok with it too, but I still reserve the right to only date who I want to.

We are attracted to certain things and not others. It's no different than having preferences for blondes vs brunettes, short or tall people, very slender or curvy, etc. I'm sorry they couldn't accept your answer gracefully. Especially when getting healthy is a choice they could choose to make if they're tired of being rejected for this reason. And I say that as a former fat person who's lost 80lbs in the last year and am only 5 pounds from goal.

I mean you're not fatphobic for that. Fatphobic is hating people for being fat. But maybe you should have prepared excuses to turn down people, Iunno.

Ugly people would try anything to get laid. We can’t blame them.
