Today, I went to start my new job, only to find out that the guy who hired me had no permission to do so. I had to fill out another application, and complete another interview and I still might not get the damn job. FML

Today, I got notice that I didn't get the new position I applied for at work. After two interviews, pay negotiation and paperwork, as well as years of giving this place all my time, I found out my boss gave it to his friend's daughter, who has no experience or credentials needed for the position. FML
Today, upon applying for a new job to leave my old crappy job I was informed by my new potential employer that he was unable to hire me because he is friends with my current boss. FML
Today, after finally getting a job offer after months of unemployment, I found out that the person who was going to hire me got fired. Which means I'm not getting the job. FML
Today, after driving hundreds of miles to sign the paperwork for my new job, I found out the guy who hired me recently quit, and HR has no idea who I am. FML
Today, I got a call from the only company that asked me to come in for an interview of the many applications I submitted. I answered it even though I was at my current job. My boss heard and chewed me out. The call was to cancel the interview since the position was filled. FML
Today, I found out I didn't get the promotion I applied for. Then I was told I was the only one who applied for the job. FML
Today, after working my ass off for months for an open supervisor job at my work, I found out that they hired someone for the position. The guy has never worked for the company before, has a background completely unrelated to what we do, and has to be trained as he knows nothing about what we do. FML
Today, I discovered that I needed to reapply for my job in order to have a chance at keeping it. The applications closed yesterday. FML
Today, after I fired a guy two weeks ago for being a lazy ass, I'd put his job out for applicants to apply, I was going to have the interviews. My assistant informed me only one person applied. It was him, applying to get his job back. I had to rehire him because the position needed filling today. FML
Today, after resigning from my current job, I was let go from the new job I hadn't even started yet. FML

If you don't get the job, at least you can use the renegade who hired you as a reference.

That definitely sucks! Depending on your money situation, if I were you I would be hesitant to apply (again) if you would be working with the guy who "hired" you. How would you know he has the authority to ask you to do something? If you do get the job, be sure to get clarification on what that guy is/is not allowed to do so he doesn't get you in trouble for something. Good luck!

Was there no paperwork to sign or fill out with HR before you showed up for your first day?</p> <p>I second some of the other commentors though, if there was no process for your hiring that prevents stuff like this from happening, I'd worry about working there, they might be lax when it comes to other things as well.</p>
