Today, we'd booked a spot for 20 people for my grandma's birthday. Turns out the reservation didn't go through. Now 20 people are waiting inside and outside for a group of old people to finish eating. They just barely got their food. FML

Today, my mom slaved over a hot stove making a meal for 20 guests. They all cancelled at the last second. We now have leftovers for 20 people. FML
Today, it's my birthday and I'd arranged a dinner party for 20 of my closest friends. I arrived at the restaurant, fully dressed and everything. When I got there, I thought everyone was ready to surprise me, but instead, nobody showed up. FML
Today, it was my 18th birthday and I was told I couldn't get the night off work because a party of 34 had booked into the restaurant. It turned out my family had come in to 'celebrate' by making me wait on them. They were a nightmare, thought it was hilarious to be difficult, and didn't tip. FML
Today, my religious parents were hosting a family dinner. Not only did we have to wait over an hour for my grandma to finally show up, but when she did, she had her 30 year old boytoy in tow. Apparently, "Granny has needs too you know, hahaha!" Goodbye peaceful family. FML
Today, I'd booked a table at a restaurant for my parents’ anniversary but when we arrived, the staff couldn’t find the reservation. I checked my confirmation email and realized I’d booked it for the following evening. We did find a less classy restaurant nearby, but can't get my deposit back from the other place. FML
Today, out of the 35 people invited, only one person showed up to my bridal shower. It was my grandma. FML
Today, I was eating with my grandma and her sister, who don't get along. I went to the bathroom for just 2 minutes, only to come back to find pancakes everywhere and our plates smashed on the ground. They got into a "little argument". FML
Today, I'd arranged a family reunion to see family I hadn't seen in years. Out of about 20 people, only 3 said they would come. One messaged to cancel the night before. The other two no-showed. FML
Today, my grandparents took me out for dinner for my birthday. After singing, "Happy birthday dear…" they froze. I had to say my own name because they'd forgotten it. FML
Today, my mom asked if I wanted to come to dinner with my parents and my grandparents who are in from London. When we got to the restaurant, there was a wait. My mom made me walk home because they could get a table quicker for a group of four than a group of five. FML

Start calling places that are in the area. I bet they will want your Business if this restaurant was incompetent and didn't put your reservation in the system.

I don't think there are many good restaurants that can just fit 20 people in comfortably. And better towait than to go to a crappy place on grandma's birthday.

I would be calling around everywhere. Do you know how long old people take to eat? I take a 99 year old neghbor to lunch 3 times a week because she has no family and it's a good 3 hours every time we go.

Everyone is so quick to blame the restaurant. "didn't go through" suggests they used an online reservation service and it is very much THEIR fault. I hosted at a restaurant for over two years and I can promise you 90% of the people making reservations have absolutely no idea what they're doing, between calling the wrong restaurant chain, wrong location, telling the wrong time or telling an extremely different number from what actually shows up. Hosts are not mind readers, get your own damn reservation right and DOUBLE CHECK IT'S RECORDED IF YOU DIDN'T MAKE THE RESERVATION WITH AN ACTUAL HUMAN.

That's why I always check the reservation the day before the event. Especially if it's so many people.
