Today, I was fired. Not only was I fired with no warning, not only was my friend the one who fired me, but I was fired from the unpaid volunteering position I took to help her out. FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, I got fired from my volunteer job. FML
Today, I got fired. Not because of anything I did, but because my best friend, who'd I'd gotten hired, stood up for herself when both the owner's wife and daughter became disrespectful professionally. She then quit and got a job with a competitor. They started looking at her LinkedIn. Two weeks later, I get canned. FML
Today, I got fired from the community service I was doing out of kindness. FML
Today, my best friend was fired from the place we both work at because she's a bad employee. After they fired her she said, "If I go, I'm taking my best friend with me." So they fired me too. I actually liked that job. FML
Today, I was fired without warning from my job because I was not consulting my boss about things like washing dishes and throwing away garbage. Basically, I was fired for being too good at my job. FML
Today, after a long couple of months working non-stop, I finally got someone to cover my shift. Turns out she was joking, and when I didn't show up for work, I was fired. FML
Today, my boss told me I was fired 3 weeks ago because there's no money to pay me, meaning that I worked the last three weeks for free. FML
Today, I was fired for actively seeking employment with another company. Because of having just been fired, the other company will no longer give me the time of day. FML
Today, I was fired from a job I didn't have. The manager in charge of calling me to tell me if I got the job never called, and never called me back when I left messages. The only time he called me was to fire me for not coming to orientation, which, by the way, he never called to tell me about. FML
Today, I was fired from my local animal shelter. I was a volunteer and am currently in school for veterinary technology. My education made the paid staff at the shelter feel threatened. FML

Better to be fired from an unpaid job than a paid one. I would suggest talking to your friend and finding out what went wrong.

It's just the idea that you were so bad at something that even though you were not paid they felt the need to fire you. that sucks lol

Your services weren't needed. Chin up! if she wasn't grateful for your help, you don't need her negativity!

@18 Why are you blaming Op's friend? Just because Op volunteered to help them out? That doesn't automatically mean the friend is in charge of the organization or the person who decides whether or not Op could keep the position.

The majority of people here are assuming that any help is good help, which is entirely untrue. It is incredibly hard to find volunteers in this world, so for her to fire you, you were probably placing extra burden upon other staff/volunteers, acting inappropriately, a liability in one way or another, giving the company a bad reputation, costing the company money, etc. etc. Having had to do this to a friend myself at my not-for-profit, I guarantee talks were had but went in one ear and out the other before the firing. So. Think about what you could have done. You probably deserved it.

@19 Op almost definitely deserved it. Nobody is going to fire a volunteer who is competent.
Fairyjoshy 13
Really? Because competent people get fired all the time while incompetent people stay.

Well now you can get a real job that pays you. You were only volunteering.

Don't see the problem here unless you needed volunteer hours now you get more free time to do whatever or get a PAID job so neither fyl or ydi

If it was an unpaid position, they may not need the help anymore. Sometimes having too many people around is just as bad as having too few.
