Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I was showing my 6-year-old son how easy and safe it is to ride a bike. I didn't notice a pebble, bust up my leg, and my son is now terrified of bicycles. FML
Today, I assembled my kid’s birthday bike without reading the instructions. I proudly presented it, only for him to sit on it and immediately realize the handlebars were on backwards. The training wheels were also uneven, so it leaned like a sinking ship. My kid said, “It’s OK Dad, it's not your fault,” which hurt more than if he’d laughed. FML
Today, I was teaching my daughter how to ride a bike with no training wheels. After comforting her and assuring her that she'd be fine, I gave her a big push. She fell forward over the handlebars and scraped her chin on the front wheel. FML
Today, I tried to show my little cousin how to ride a bike without training wheels. Not only did I crash into a bush, but the handlebars hit me in the nuts, and I ended up rolling around like a Labrador in shit in front of the neighbors. FML
Today, I thought it was about time to learn to ride a bike as an adult. I wobbled down the street, lost my balance, and crashed into a parked ice cream truck. The owner yelled at me, and I was left with a bruised ego and no ice cream. FML
Today, while BMXing I felt my chain break loose. I only looked down for a split second, and that's all it took for me to crash into a young scooter kid, breaking not only my own nose and elbow, but both his arms. FML
Today, I went to my first spin class. Trying my best, I hopped on the bike and started pedaling like I’d been doing it for years. The instructor came over, adjusted the seat, and as soon as she let go, I completely lost my balance and tipped over. The bike fell sideways, taking me and two water bottles with it. FML
Today, I took off the training wheels of my niece's bike. I tried to show her how to ride it, but she told me to get off because I needed a "fat girl's bike." FML
Today, I was at the park with my friends. We were all having fun on the swings, when out of nowhere I heard a thud, followed by a child crying. Turns out I accidentally kicked him in the head. FML
Today, I learned that my brakes don't work anymore on my bike. When did I learn this? While speeding down a really steep hill. FML

Sometimes it hurts being the exception to the rule.

Did you lose your sense of balance with age, or what?

I too forgot how to ride a bike. I cannot for the life of me keep it steady, even though my balance has greatly improved with age (I took up martial arts in college).

same:( I stopped riding before I hit puberty so I have a different center of balance now. I also don't like being too high off the ground so yeah, I'll just walk or drive.

I want to say YDI, only because it takes a while to "click" when it's been a long time. It can take 20 minutes before your brain remembers how it works.

I'm sure your brain still remembers, now we just have to get your body on board.

Time to shift gears and get over it (no pun intended). It's not a big deal, you haven't rode in a while.

Really? Did you have lot of head trauma? Or did you ride a bicycle for just a couple of hours when you were a little child? Or were you drunk stupid? My friend says she got bat shit drunk on her engagement and locked herself in the loo.. She said she couldn't remember how to pee or unlock the door.. Finally another friend of hers had to climb over and let her out... Yeowza!!

Don't feel too bad I went downtown with my boyfriend the other day to bike for the first time in years XD it was definitely awkward but I caught on again after a while just keep at it and you should get the hang of it again ^^

They say riding your bike is like driving a car. That statement is false because I have been in the same predicament myself. I tried getting on a bike after almost 10 years and could not get the hang of it. I did after 20 minutes but I still struggled for awhile and wasn't as good as I used to be. Practice does make perfect though. Keep practicing and it'll come back to you after awhile.
