Today, my mom left the house in the morning, leaving me alone. I called and I got no answer. Hours later, she finally answers one of my calls and tells me that she'd been in an AA meeting all this time. Happy, I tell her to come home. She came home drunk. FML

Don't give up hope yet OP, these kinds of things just take time, patience, and a lot of support. Be there for your mother and I'm sure that you can both power through this. As hard as it can be, you just have to maintain the right mindset with these kinds of things. I'm sure things will turn out for the best in the end

Keep supporting her and encourage more AA meetings, you can't get better after just one. Good luck OP.

There probably will be a few relapses. Just keep supporting her and let her know you are happy she is trying (if she really is and the "I'm at aa" wasn't a smart ass remark). They also have al-anon for family members, you might want to look into it for yourself. Good luck with everything.

I'm wondering if she wasn't at AA at all and that was just an excuse for her to be out drinking all day.

That is what I was somewhat thinking. With the way it is written, op saying "come home" and op's mom coming home drunk makes it sound like it was right away. I wonder if op's mom got tired of the calls, said she was at an aa meeting sarcastically and op just missed it.

Support your mom in her efforts to get sober! It's a hard process but you're going to be doing the right thing.

Overcoming any addiction is tough OP. Try not to get your hopes up just yet, you might be left disappointed. Encourage her pursuit of sobriety, but know there's bound to be some rough spots ahead.

Go to some al anon meetings or the teen al anon meetings. They were so helpful for me when I was living with my ex. The people there have been through it all and are full of compassion and support.

you should do the same thing with a coca-cola meeting, and come home stoned.
