Cold feet

Today, after two months of rehearsals, an actor in my theater company decided he was unhappy with the role I gave him, so he refuses to perform. We open tonight. FML

Unprofessional bastard. He's screwing it up for everyone, on a selfish whim. He should suck it up and do what he agreed to do. If you can't go on, make sure to explain why.

Make sure you let anyone else in other productions what kind of person this actor is. To go through all those rehearsals and then decide opening night he isn't satisfied with his role is completely unprofessional

That is utterly unprofessional of that actor. Try to convince him, if he played the role temporarily, you'll do your best to get him the role he wants. I know that this maybe construed as deceiving and lying, but at least it'll get you out of this predicament..

That is utterly unprofessional of that person and thus it'll lead to him not getting any good roles, because no body will want to work with an actor that is not trustworthy..

Well, he's getting black balled.

Aren't their backups for this? Kick him to the curb.

Tell him to quit "acting" like a lil bitch

And that's why you have understudys.

eek that's why we must have backups

Wow that sucks. Sorry to hear that OP. But don't you have a backup?
