Today, I was giving a presentation at work, when I said, "But we could care less about that." My boss asked if I meant, "Couldn't care less." Wanting to avoid embarrassment, I tried to think up an excuse, only to end up blurting that it was my phone's auto-correct. FML

People who say, "I could care less," is somewhere near the top of my list of pet peeves. If you could care less then why don't you?

Couldn't agree with you more... Though I sympathize with them, It doesn't make sense to say it that way.. I figured that one out on my own.. Guess I'm just a smart cookie.. ... Sometimes.... Despite what my friends say for some of my actions....WHICH ARE AWESOME!! Anyway, yeah I agree with you.. Have a spifferific day...

It's funny but you should probably have just admitted it and said that WAS what you meant...you were probably under some pressure though

Your weren't wrong. Your boss just doesn't know the origin of the phrase. Grammatically it should be like your boss says: "I couldn't care less." That makes sense and all - but the phrase is a shortened form of a much longer phrase back in the old country (England). It was shortened to the now commonly used and misunderstood form that you correctly used: "I could care less".
