Are you?
Today, I was told I have kidney stones, kidney infections, and a bladder infection and that I have to get admitted into the hospital. I let my boss know, and she replied, "But you're still coming in for your shift tonight, right?" FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I ended up in the hospital for the fourth time since beginning of January due to kidney stones. FML
Today, after I'd given myself a week off work for my birthday, and my alcoholic sister decided she needed to go to rehab, which then hijacked the whole week for her crisis, at 4:30 am, the morning I'm supposed to return to work, I end up in the ER with a first time kidney stone. The next thing I know, she's in the ER for an injury. FML
Today, I had an emergency appendectomy, so I texted my boss to let him know about the situation. He replied that it'd be good for my continued employment prospects if I came into work tomorrow. FML
Today, the bladder infection I thought I was over flared up at work, causing me to piss myself, despite having gone twice in the previous hour. I still had to finish my shift, soaked pants and all. FML
Today, I was passing a kidney stone. I had to go to the ER but had no one to take me, so I drove myself. They made me wait 3 hours because it was suspicious that someone in "so much pain" could drive. It was the largest stone that doctor had seen in his career. FML
Today, I was at my doctor's office. I thought I had a kidney stone. Turns out I'm pregnant and I have a kidney stone. FML
Today, I was diagnosed with a kidney infection; the symptoms include nausea and having to pee every five minutes. I had to walk six miles in the pouring rain to pick up the medication, peed in the woods twice, got honked at while throwing up on the road, and my boyfriend told me not to complain. FML
Today, I had to call out of work because I was ill, but they didn't believe me because today was the day I was supposed to come back from vacation. Now I'm stuck at work, constantly running to the bathroom, and they still won't let me go home. FML
Today, I was feeling down about being stuck in bed after ankle surgery. I thought I would go ahead and call my boss and let him know everything went well. He said the obligatory nice things, then told me that if I'm not at work on Monday, I'll be fired. I can't even get out of bed. FML
Today, I woke up in the ER after constant coughing and pneumonia made me pass out. I told my boss I was in the hospital with an infection and 235/163 blood pressure, so I wouldn’t be in. His response was, “So, you are a lazy POS and expect your colleagues to cover you?” I’d quit if my health was better. FML

Your boss has clearly never had kidney stones. Might want to tell him / her that you'll be needing a few days off.

Clearly op needs some days off. But if you don’t need surgery and your kidney stones go away naturally, you can go back to work straight away. Kidney stones are extremely painful as long as they are not gone or you don’t have pain med.

While paying out the nose for the medical care too.

Thank God we aren’t plagued with that miserable socialized medicine like the poor, sad people in Europe. What losers! We’ve got it so good here!

"I have kidney stones, and they're also infected, along with my bladder." "Okay. Make sure you're here on time. We're pretty busy." "Actually, I have to have both my legs amputated." "Sorry, we don't have room for chairs. You'll still have to stand." "This is OP's mother. She sadly passed away last night." "Tell her she's suspended without pay, has been docked a week's wages, and she can come back in when she apologizes, and provides a doctor's note."

Is it like this in other countries or just America? I am seriously wanting to know.

Sadly this shite happens in the UK too. My dad was written up at work and had to go to the disciplinary committee because he had a heart attack and didn't make his shift (even when they were notified why). They also wrote him up the day he had surgery for his hernia, .. again, after they were notified in advance and he had been granted days off. Still they tried to discipline him. Bunch of arseholes!

I was making fun of people who don't know, or care, when others are sick. This is probably a global thing, but I'd guess that a lack of compassion and/or understanding isn't very common. If you were talking about the extortionate costs of healthcare, then I have no idea, but America is the country that comes up the most when compared to countries that have far cheaper health plans.

Hopefully she was joking... if not I'd have laughed anyway and said "I'm being admitted into the hospital, what do you think?"

Your boss is obviously an idiot.
