I hate people like you who moan when asked for ID. If they sell to somone underage, it's a level 5 fine of up to £5,000 and immediate dismissal. Cashiers have a responsibility to ensure that doesn't happen and every cashier has the right to ask anyone for ID, no matter how old they are. Also many stores have raised the age to 25 for the task 25 or whatever scheme meaning that if you look under 25, you almost certainly will be asked for ID. They just want to make sure they aren't breaking the law, what's wrong with that? Have your ID with you next time, dipshit.
U do know that they can get sued if a problem cane up an somehow people found out they sold you alcohol with out checking ID, right?
In the UK, the business can't get sued, but they may lose their license to sell alcohol if they sell to someone underage. Also, it aint against the law to not carry ID, nor is it against the law not to ask, even if you look under 25/21. I'm 23 and hardly ever get asked but I do always carry it with me, just in case. Some stores are stricter than others however and even if you look old enough, you may still get asked, especially if the cashier has a strict supervisor/manager watching over them as they may get a disciplinary if they don't.
The kid was just doing his job. He doesn't get paid enough to get the kind of shit he most likely gets. His manager on the other hand shouldn't be so stupid. I work in retail and it's the cashier's job to follow procedure and the manager's job to think and help the customer. That's why I always tell cashiers that transfer to a department to stop thinking like a checker. Take it as a compliment and YDI for not having ID.
I'm thinking the customer was being less than pleasant with the manager, and likely "forgot" to mention that in the FML. Either that or the store manager thought she could have been a secret shopper.
Not only will the cashier be fired, fined £2000 and be arrested if caught selling alcohol to a minor the supermarket will be fined £25,000 (which the will try to claw back from the sacked cashier) and the manager will also lose his or her job. There is too much at stake to simply NOT ask for your ID incase your "little feelings are hurt," you are too old to go running to the supervisor for simply being asked a question, they were damn right to ask you to leave but I would not have been so polite "SECURITY!"
To put it as you said it: people will be fined if caught selling alcohol to a /minor/. There is no way a 37-year-old looks like a minor. I see OP's reason to be frustrated about this because it probably felt as if the kid was taking the piss. From the cashier point of view, it's very well possible that he was following the rules letter to letter because he just got that job and whatnot.
331 - I disagree simply because I know people who are 37 and they actually look like 16-18ish, sure if they put on a suit, wear make-up etc they would look closer to their real age but their job allows them to wear trainers so they don't. I do but I still get asked by busy-bodies on the pavement why am I skipping school and I'm 28. They say beauty is in the eyes of beholder so maybe it's age too, but is being denied alcohol really a FML?
You say there is no way someone 37 years old can look like a minor? I am 36 and get carded for rated R movies. It happens. But unlike OP, I am happy to provide ID since I do not look my age. Even if the OP is in the UK, why couldn't he/she just have gone home to get their ID instead of berating an innocent cashier? That would have been the 'adult' thing to do, which the OP is showing a huge lack of. It's not just their appearance that seems young.
Don't worry about it, my local store won't accept my passport because it's not state issued - it was enough for me to enter the frickin country from Belgium but not enough to buy the beer we sent over.
I agree with 1. And don't insult the cashier. You're the idiot who forgot their ID.
You do know that most places now have a carding policy if you look under 40? You're one of those jackasses who thinks the rules don't apply to you, aren't you?
Is that in the UK? I'm 25 and have never been asked for ID.
The law is the law. You are not worth the fine they could get. And you drive w/out your license?
In the UK if you get pulled over by the police you have 7 days to present your driving licence to a police station. So yes, most people no longer expecting to be asked for proof of age upon purchasing alcohol (25+) do drive around without their licences...
So ur driving without a license? And being an asshole to a kid who just doing his job?
