Today, I tried to buy a bottle of wine from the supermarket. The scrawny, acne-ridden kid at the checkout asked to see my ID. I didn't have any on me, since I'm 37 years old and didn't expect to be asked stupid questions. I complained to his manager, only to be asked to leave. FML

Were you trying to buy a mega turkey earlier today?

If you really were 37, you'd know to carry id on you at all times.

So you don't like being called young? Alright you old geezer why don't you get your saggy ass home and go back to yelling at kids on your lawn.

And at the idiot who keeps posting "he's from UK"... Your an idiot. Not EVERYONE reads the comments. I actually had to scroll down a shit ton on the page due to the spelling corrections bullshit conversation. I wouldn't blame people for not finding these comments "reading worthy".

He's just doing his job, so I don't think you have any right to get pissed at him and then whine about it to the manager because you were too good for carrying your ID around.

it's your fault and the English people for voting for the government running your country and making your silly laws. Seriously it offends me that a serial killer or child molester has the same rights as me. Just end the parasites life.

YDI for being dumb enough to think you won't need an ID and that the guy at the cashier is just going to let you go. It's called doing your job. Jeez.

Stores can get into ALOT of trouble if they are caught selling alcohol to minors. It's very common that they will ID anyone looking under 40, you probably just look young. Also why are you walking around with no ID, you should always carry it on you. You sound like a total jerk.

Wrong. It's usually at the discretion of the cashier, and very rarely does any blame fall on the actual place of business.

^^^ A lot of companies pay people to come in and buy beer and cigs --- without ID. When the cashier fails to ask -- it can be cause for termination and the store gets a write up. I used to bar tend as well... Doesn't matter if I knew you and knew your age. It was a write up if I failed to ID a customer. Two occurrences and it was your Job. I don't care how bad you want your wine... ******* with A persons job, is ******* with their income. Don't **** with someone's money. That's a bitch move.

Heh, I see a clash of culture occurring. OP is from the UK where the drinking age is 18, drinking laws are very relaxed compared with the US and pretty much every store has a policy of IDing only if someone looks under 25 (and even then it rarely happens unless someone looks really young). I am 26, haven't been ID'd in a few years and more or less look my age.

I sometimes don't get ID'd, I'm 20 and don't dress up ever. I've been mistaken for younger, in once case significantly younger (thank-you Mr Creepy 80something who tries to pick up schoolgirls...) although I always carry some ID just in case. The most surreal incident was when I was able to buy a drink for a friend using her ID and saying "it's for my friend". They didn't even ask for mine.

Either way, the kid was doing his job. They shouldn't be such a bitch about it.

Even though it could be a clash of culture, the kid was still doing his job, perhaps he sucks at guessing age and just wants to play it safe. One would think its better to be safe than sorry. He shouldn't be getting petty over someone following procedure. Perhaps now OP will always remember his ID. Which I don't understand why anyone would ever leave home without in the first place.
