Today, I learned that I can work out for over an hour a day, cut my daily calories by almost half, keep careful track of my diet, drink nothing but water, and not lose a pound. But I can sure as hell gain weight after one dinner at a buffet. FML

How long have you been on your new diet/workout plan? Have you been keeping track of your measurements? You do know new muscle weighs more than lost fat, right? and if you weighed yourself the same day as your buffet, the added weight is just food in your intestines. Why do people always associate successful health plans with numbers on a scale?

How long have you been dieting? If you really haven't lost any weight perhaps you should see a doctor.

If you were eating enough calories to begin with that you could cut them in half, there's a problem. What, did you go from 4000 to 2000? NO ONE should eat at a buffet, unless it's just a salad bar.

There is nothing wrong with buffets so long as you stay within a reasonable limit. I normally get one plate of food, possibly two if I'm really hungry or they bring out something new, and I don't normally finish everything (I have a bad habit of taking a little bit of a a lot of different foods, and then only eating a couple bites of some of them). I probably eat less at buffets than I do at a normal restaurant, where I feel more pressured to eat everything on my plate (and restaurant meals are normally 800-1500 calories, as ridiculous as that is).

Yeah that's completely normal. You have successfully shocked your body into survival mode and it won't shed a pound until you ease up. Get professional advice or do some research before you dive into a crash diet like that.

you gotta stick to it for a few months. your body is still adjusting to the diet

Take it from someone who used to be super-obese...cutting calories and exercise *does not work*!!!! Everything you have been told about nutrition is false. Everything you have been told about exercise is false. The best, surest, and healthiest way to lose weight is with a primal diet. That means if man made it, you don't eat it! Fresh meat, fresh vegetables and some fresh fruits. That's all you need. Nothing that comes in a package, jar, or bottle and no dairy! And by the way, carbohydrates are the only macro-nutrient that your body does not need to function. Your body can convert fat and protein to the glucose it needs. No, more protein will not hurt your kidneys; that is a complete myth. And the majority of cholesterol in your body does *not* come from the food you eat, its made in your liver. Cholesterol doesn't even cause heart disease, inflammation does. Inflammation is exacerbated by cholesterol found in starchy foods (bread, pasta, beans, potatoes). Best way to lose weight is to eat 8oz of high quality animal protein per meal, and no more than 10 carbs of green vegetables. Add in coconut oil, some chromium and l-carnatine on a daily basis. It baffles me that everyone says they don't trust the government, but everyone keeps following what the government is telling them to eat.

Oh?. . .So I can eat 10,000 calories and be ok if I only eat apples? No, not true. . . Your primal diet works, yes, and is actually a pretty accepted way of losing weight and in quiet a few publications BUT portion control is still a must. You still need to control how much you're eating and when you're eating it AND you need to be burning some of it off. Sure, if you're only eating 1,200 calories per day and move around a lot at work you probably won't need to exercise because your body is burning off all the excess. But, if you're not starving yourself and eat a healthy amount of food [1,600-2,000] calories you're still going to need to exercise.

you just made a huge generalization -- you said that cutting calories and exercise doesn't work. while it is *never* a good idea to just slash your caloric intake to pieces arbitrarily, it is most certainly a good idea to keep a close eye on the amount and content of the calories you are consuming. for example, you may have a "low caloric intake," but if most of the calories are from fat, it still may not help. also, a person living a sedentary lifestyle will invariably need to consume less calories, because you are consuming more calories than you are expending. just my two cents. |the kid|

it's an imaginary number. do with it what you will ;o

ur not fat:-) maybe ur weight jus in the right places and u dont no it silly;-) ha:-)
