Today, my boyfriend took me to his grandfather's funeral. At the reception, his family members insist on hearing me play piano. After getting positive reactions, I dive into one of my favorites, Rustle of Spring. In 2 seconds everyone bursts into tears. That was Papa's favorite too. FML

If I was his family, I probably would have been touched. So don't feel too bad!

Don't feel bad, I'm sure they will appreciate it a little later. It's okay.

That would seem bad at first, having it sprung upon them...but if it was one of his favorites, I'm sure he would have liked it to be played at his funeral.

Will you idiots shut up aboout it not being a FML? I'm sure everyone got the message the first ten times. I was likely because the OP didn't know the family.

@53 -- Agree. But I'm sure the OP feels better about it now. :)

Lots of people want to have their favourite songs played at their funeral and I'm sure very few specifically DON'T want their favourite songs played at their funeral. As for the guests, nobody goes to a funeral because they don't want to think about their loved ones.

awww that's special I'm sure they were touched

That's sweet. I would have been extremely touched.

Wait what? This is a sensitive family moment....not an FML.

yea, not a FYL at all, if anything that was the most appropriate song you could have possibly played

It's appropriate that you played the song. As others will say I think the people there will remember that fondly. Honestly that type of event crying is what people are there to do.
