Today, I asked my mother-in-law to watch after my baby daughter. When I returned home, my baby's ears were pierced. FML

I would probably flip my shit. She had no right to do that to your child, especially without you or your husbands permission!

I don't understand why people want to force metal through a child's ears. Let them decided if they want to do that when they're older.

I'd have been so pissed! Luckily _for now) for my girls my family tradition is 9yrs old, and their father's family says 18 yrs. We'll discuss it again when the older of my daughters gets closer to 9.

Take those earrings out and let them heal back ASAP! When babies ears are done they pull them, or when they get older their ears change shape so the earring is sometimes halfway up their ear! Your Poor baby girl :(

Sounds like she just lost her privileges to be alone with your daughter. This makes me so angry

Fuuuuuuuck no. I'm sorry but she would have gotten laid out. There's no way someone is going to put my child in unnecessary pain like that for SOLELY aesthetic reasons (and not even for the child but for THEMSELVES) and get away with it. Nope nope noppity no.

That's how my ears got pierced by my maternal grandmother. At the age of 13 I took them off, threw my earrings away and told everyone I hate them CUZ I DO. My whole family loved them and now thinks I'm insane

Holy shit I would have had a freaking siezure! Yes , never trust her again.

@109 One can infer from the FML that Op didn't want to get her daughter's ears pierced, but MIL did it anyway. That's a big problem. MIL doesn't get a vote in the matter because it's not her child.

Is your name Rachel, per chance? ) Only it was her sister, as far as I can recall. But anyway it sucks!
