Dude, dont just judge people like that.
it's his job!!! what she expect? get a new picture
Not your fault. You didn't know.
how did he even remotely deserve that?
if you worked as a bartender you'd do the same thing
it's his job to do that.
#5 - On 04/01/2009 at 5:12pm by imynk
Well then she should have updated her I.D.
You didn't know, what can you do.
But she was probably on a lot of medicine so why should she go to a bar?
how were you supposed to know
you were just doing your job
i wouldnt worry about it
#8 - On 04/01/2009 at 5:14pm by ben26
#2: It's the OP's job to "judge people like that".
If someone presents with an ID photo that looks nothing like them, the odds are higher that it's a fake than that the person was horribly disfigured in a car crash.
#9 - On 04/01/2009 at 5:14pm by plethora
How on earth can people say he deserves it?! He works at a bar, do you know how many people he has to deal with that have fake IDs. The girl should have gotten a new ID if her face was that messed up.
This comment has been moderated.
#2, his job is to judge people like that, you can't really blame him. I've worked security in a bar, and it really makes you realize that a picture taken 3 years ago is rarely helpful. SO not his fault, but sucks, none the less
They could've been lying. Who knows, maybe they hatched that plan in case they got caught trying to sneak her in? =P
what an asshole. you could have at least been nice about it instead of being a total douche fag.
#7 maybe she wanted to go out and be with friends like a normal human being? just because you go to a bar doesn't mean you have to drink anything.
i agree w/number 8. unfortunate but not your fault.
no way you could've known, man. i'm on your side.
#14, ur an idiot. by what is written here, he wasn't a douchebag, he was just recognizing the fact that the id she had didnt look like her and made a small joke about it, anyone who thinks he deserves this has no sense of that what was actually going on, he didnt know
If she comes back another time just appologize and tell the bartender to give her a free drink.
That might be true, but who knows if the group of people knew that she would get caught with a fake ID so they came up with the car wreck story.
To be fair to you, she should have had her ID updated if she looked dramatically different.
Also I'd like to add in that the fact that you posted this here means you feel bad about it, making you the nicest bouncer I've ever heard of lol
I've seen local bouncers do much worse, like last week I was out and the bouncer took me aside and spend 10 minutes asking me ridiculous questions, like "what college do you go to?", and when I told him that I don't go to college he started to berate me for being unemployed after my job went down the toilet due to cutbacks. He eventually let me through but I left the shithole soon after.
Thanks everybody. It was a really busy night, and it' a college town, so there are always kids trying to use fakes...... Still, I felt like an ass though. lol.
Also, #14, after 9:00 pm in my state it is ilegal for a minor to be in a bar.
#21 - On 04/01/2009 at 5:24pm by tsardaukar
#17, #14 is right. Yes, it is his job to check it and all, but instead of not believing the person (like he did) he could easily have said something like "This doesn't look like you" Instead of insulting her like he did. He has no right to joke about how anyone looks as many people take it personally, and if he deals with all different types of people on a daily basis he should know that. He deserves to be reprimanded for being unjustly rude to the customer.
Ya know the guy could have been lying.....
And she didn't have scars on her face? Or other signs that would indicate she was the girl in the picture and had been disfigured in some way
Bunch of people have already said it, but I'll say it again anyway.. It's not your fault. You're just doing your job. Plus, I would imagine that after doing this for a few hours several times, you come to meet LOTS of kids with fake IDs and not too many who unfortunately, became disfigured as a result of a car accident.
While it definitely sucks for the girl, to be fair, she probably should have gotten a new ID...
raise your hand if you think #11 is a dumbass!! *raises hand*
"He deserves to be reprimanded for being unjustly rude to the customer."
I suggest you read the FML again, #22; the OP basically said that the girl looked nothing like the photo in her ID. In a job where you see fakes all the time, give the OP a fucking break; when's the last time YOU ran into a bouncer who was looking to make friends with every college student handing him an ID?
Maybe her friends were lying. I mean, if she was trying to use a fake ID in the first place...
The OP definitely did not deserve it, he was just doing his job and she probably should've gotten her ID updated if she'd been so horribly disfigured.
#29 - On 04/01/2009 at 5:33pm by hk
dude... totally not your fault
She should have gotten a new i.d.
#30 - On 04/01/2009 at 5:35pm by sforward09
i'd say the same thing. i don't want to get fired for getting an underage person in. "better safe than sorry." you don't come across ppl who've been in serious accidents very often
awh, either way, that's still kind of sad but not really your fault... it's your job. sooooooo.
How were you suppose to know? it's like ugly people getting plastic surgery. not everyone updates photo IDs.
#17 actually i am not an idiot. i just don't see the point in being rude when there is nicer ways to go about things. it's obviously his job but is it really necessary to make a joke out of it? especially when you don't know someone else's situation.
#21 what i meant was she could have just been there to relax with friends and be social. i understand that many states don't let minors in after a certain time. i think they do it in mine too but i doubt every person that is able to drink legally, drinks just because they are in a bar.
I call bull. No one is that stupid.
dude. that's mean, but i can't blame you, you didn't know. and if she was that disfigured why is she out in public!?!
Either it was fake and they realised it looked nothing like her so that was their story
Or it was real and that did happen, that sucks tho if it was real, because you didn't know and you were only doing what your job requires which requires you stopping underage kids drinking, you did nothing wrong.
It is really dumb of you to jump to that conclusion immediately although, i kinka agree that you aren't totally at fault because you didnt know but really...think next time before you do something like that cause it probably really really hurt that poor girl

(Assuming the girl was actually in a wreck) People why would he deserve that? It's not like he called her ugly or anything, he just stated a fact -- that the id picture did not match her current look.
BUTTLOVE!!!!!!!!
and its not your fault
not your fault.
don't listen to all these high school kids.
assuming this isn't fake...
She should have updated her ID. Defo not ur fault.
Agreed with #18. This guy didn't deserve it, he was just doing his job, and he couldn't have known.
definitely should have updated her ID.
not your fault.
don't feel too bad!
they also could have been lying
#18 while that is a nice gesture, i'm not sure a free drink would be good for the economy right now
#36 are you serious? What should she do, sit at home with a bag over her head?
re, the OP I think it was unfortunate, but go with the odds.
What do you think the ratio of fake ids: post disfiguring accident IDs is?
Dont feel that bad. You were just doing your job... =/ fyl
God thats just painful to read fuck her life but yeah you were just doing your Job better safe than fired
If she was so disfigured wouldn't she have scars or burns? If she did then the bouncer is a jerk but that doesn't sound like the case. She didn't look like her picture so she obviously wasn't as disfigured as her friend said.
I'm not gonna lie, that sounds like it could have easily been a story her and her friends concocted.
"it's obviously his job but is it really necessary to make a joke out of it?"
#34, please enlighten me as to where the joke is in this FML; all the bouncer did was state that the girl looks nothing like her photo ID.
Methinks you read what you wanted to read instead of what was actually written.
That sucks for both of you, for different reasons :/ you were just doing your job but I know you feel like shit now. The poor girl, too. Man.
Overall, you didn't know she had a car wreck, your a bouncer so your used to seeing fake ID's- you first thought would've naturally gone to she's got a fake. Shyte happens. It's crushing to her self-esteem but it was an unintentional mistake.
:O well its not your fault, so many ppl try to get in w/ fake id's.
and #1, thats COLDD
well.. she must have looked a bit disfigured, no? anyway, i'm still on your side, you didn't know.
this is so not even the OPs fault. if she looks so different, she should have the common sense to get her ID picture updated, even if it is crushing to her self-esteem. i mean yes FHL if her story's true, but at the same time, 'if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.' don't use an ID with an old photo and not expect someone to notice or something. it's not like he insulted her by calling her ugly or something, he just said she didn't look like her ID.
You didn't knew. NOT YDI.
Still, that was kind of fun.
Next time be more careful =p.
#60 - On 04/01/2009 at 6:22pm by Frlf
Trust me, it's equally as likely that it was a clever backup plan for her to get into the bar when her fake backfires. If it wasn't obvious she was disfigured there was no way for you to know.
I support OP, anyone who would have acted differently in this situation wouldn't last five minutes in a job working as a bouncer. I've been rejected for my perfectly real and legal ID just because I have longer hair now, and have to appreciate that getting aggro for not letting someone in who was allowed in, is not as bad as losing your job...
i don't even blame you, man... with the prevalence of fake IDs these days, it was a smart thing for a bouncer to say haha
and interesting point, #59, she should consider a new pic. it might be sad for her to do so, but it would be practical.
Hey, I wont judge, how the hell would you know?
She was badly disfigured but you couldn't tell?? That in itself is odd.
Anyway it should be common sense that if you don't look like your ID picture anymore you should probably get a new one. But maybe that's just me.
She was badly disfigured but you couldn't tell?? That in itself is odd.
Anyway it should be common sense that if you don't look like your ID picture anymore you should probably get a new one. But maybe that's just me.
Come on man, I know that it's your job to deal with people who have fake ID's, but...
Just by LOOKING at the woman couldn't you TELL that she had her face disfigured? I mean, she got injured at a car accident, it's not like her face is in perfect shape, if you know what i mean. So I don't understand, she didn't look completely like a new and different woman. It's not like she dyed her hair and got a nose job or something. She had her face disfigured, so right off the bat you should've realized that yeah, it probably was her in that photo ID
"....April Fool's!"
That sucks, though...
#68, ever hear of plastic surgery? She may have looked completely normal, but vastly different.
#48 i was just saying what i thought. i'm sorry if it sounded insensitive.
You could not know that. Not FYL, but FHL :(
She should change the ID to a picture that is more or less similar to her actual look. Thats why there is a picture on the ID - to identify...
Her face looked weird, but it didn't look like the picture on her license. What really made it suck was that the guy told me that she had had facial reconstructive surgery after her accident, and that night was supposed to be her "coming back" party. (Didn't include this for lack of space in posting.) sure made me feel good, let me tell you....
#73 - On 04/01/2009 at 6:37pm by tsardaukar
#53. why not just say something like "your i.d. doesn't look like you. i'm sorry but i can't let you in." something to that effect instead of blah blah blah "if your going to have a fake i.d. you could at least get a picture that looks like you." IMO he was just a bit rude about it. maybe "joke" was the wrong word.
FYL. Dude that sucks for both of you. BTW, people who say YDI are idiots. It's your job!
#74 has the right idea. The dude's job is bouncing, not coming up with "witty commentary". He was just trying to be a badass and it backfired on him. She probably does need to get that picture changed, though...
i don't blame the OP....the majority of the time people are trying to get in with a fake id and i'm sure he sees it happening every night. seriously what are the odds that that she was disfigured in a car accident...he was just doing his job, and i mean its not like he dissed her, he just said, it doesn't look like you.
i have a feeling she and her friends planned it out and even if they didnt not ur fault
ouchh.... that sucks for both people. but i don't think the OP could have known. Its kind of a lose-lose situation. unfortunate but no one's fault.
#79 - On 04/01/2009 at 6:46pm by Newtons_Cradle
thank you #76! my point exactly.
How could he have known? And it's his job to keep people who he thinks have fake ID's out. So it's really no one's fault.
That's no one's fault, especially with the number of fake ID's that are out there. He was just doing his job.
well you were actually just doing your job so...
hhahah aww jerk. haha but that's kind of funny
#87 - On 04/01/2009 at 6:58pm by lin_zee
YDIers, of course he deserved it. He should have used his psychic powers to read her mind and find out she had been in a crash. How thoughtless of him. Seriously, put yourself in his position. You get someone come up to you with an ID that has a picture that doesn't look like them. Your first thought is that it's a fake. The thought that they could have been in a horrible accident doesn't cross your mind. It's not something you knowingly encounter on a day to day basis. Give the guy a break.
#89 - On 04/01/2009 at 6:59pm by DeeJayD
certainly not your fault. you should have bought them a round of drinks though.
completely agree with you #74
It's completely not your fault. You get fake ID pictures ALL the time. How were yo usupposed to know, right?
I work at a movie theaters and I had to I.D people, some Midgets had a fit cuz i I.D themed for a Rated R movie. Not my fault they looked like they were 12
u sure it wasnt apirl fools?
not your fault, and even if some people think "oh well you didn't have to be so mean about it!" it is his JOB, don't you think that he gets sick and tired of IDing people who are obviously holding fake ID's..after a while it must get irritating for him.
That is deffs NOT your fault. You were just doing your job. How were you supposed to know?
Not your fault, theres no way you could've known, should've just apologized to the guy and been done with it.
Even though that's messed up, she should have either told you or gotten a new ID...
That must have been a good plastic surgeon then, if he could undisfigure her well enough that she looked totally different, but no evidence of disfigurement.
/That or the "disfigured" story was really just their plan for if she got called out.
not your fault
i woudnt let her in eighther
...dude that was low. In that situation you should ask her to recite her birthday without looking at the ID and see if she hesitates to do the math. You DON'T say this. If I were your boss I woulda fired your ass. I know you're doing your job, but there's a way to make sure somebody is old enough WITHOUT being insensitive.
Although I agree with the others at the same time, she should have gotten a new ID after that.
Well, my guess would be that if her friends stayed in the bar then it was fabricated story. If they called her back, or left then there's a decent chance they were telling the truth (or just trying the same thing at another bar). It's not the bouncer's fault, since it's kinda his job to spot fake IDs (hence the fairly reasonable assumption). Perhaps the wording could have been better, but one shouldn't go through life trying to tip-toe around people's feelings. The girl should have gotten a new ID, but I can see how it wouldn't have occurred to her. OTOH, her friends are the ones I blame. I mean, getting a new face has all kinds of identity issues. Perhaps it's better not to go to a place that actually checks that.
Wow, man! Well, you couldn't have known.
man you were just doing your job you cant know that crap
While there was no way you could've known she'd been in any sort of accident, saying something like "Next time you get a fake, try getting a picture that looks like you" is just stupid and downright rude. You could've turned her away without the snide comment, but you didn't.
#95, my college professors get irritating. My parents get irritating. The customers at work get irritating.. does that give me a right to be an ass to them, simply because I'm irritated?
Absolutely not.
haha u probably felt like a dick but u should of just said haha april fools
You people are retarded. How was he supposed to know?
Reason the bouncer couldn't see "scars" or anything like that... well, generally, as all of you with sticks up your asses wouldn't know, people go to bars at night. What happens at night kids? The sun goes down, and everything gets darker. I'm going to say that you can generally see face shape/structure, & hair color. So the girl must have had a different facial shape, which is very possible if the car crash broke her jaw and/or nose. And what the OP said wasn't insulting her appearance as much as her intelligence. Who knows, she could have been ugly before the crash, and now she's pretty.
But, being a college kid, this was most likely a very clever little story.
aww. D:
Not your fault, man.
Not your fault. (=
And I agree with #110.
wow, all you bitches that say he deserved it are seriously messed up. How could he have known that she was in a wreck? he was just doin his job
man, that sucks dude. Better luck bext time.
That sucks man. It was just one of those crazy sets of circumstances that no-one could expect. You were just doing your job, so don't feel bad. . .
Wow all the YDI'ers are really not thinking at all. Like someone else said, it must be itrritating to tell all these people with fake id's that they can't come in. So when he saw hers he said the whole get a fake id that looks like you thing.. that isn't insulting her... its just saying this id looks nothing like you. Its her fault for not getting her id updated although i doubt she was in a crash.
Edit: basically what someone a few posts above me said.. i was typing this when his/hers came in
Today, I went to the bar with my friends, and I was ID'd. After looking at my ID, the bouncer said, "Next time you get a fake ID, you should at least get one with a picture that looks like you." I was badly disfigured in a car wreck. That was my real ID. FML
FHL!!!
#119 - On 04/01/2009 at 8:07pm by c_R_07
"Today, my friends and I went to a local bar. When I showed the bouncer my ID, he denied my entrance and told me the next time I want to use a fake ID, at least make it look a little more like me. It was me. I recently got into a car wreck and had been badly disfigured. FML".
aw man #119 beat me to it!
I haven't read all the posts so maybe someone was smart enough to already say this:
Dude, you got played!! That wasn't her real ID and she wasn't injured in a car wreck. It was an act to get you to feel sorry for her, apologize, and let her in.
And this is why people hate bouncers.
Maybe next time try a simple, "This photo doesn't look like you, why is that?' Pretty sure you'd be able to tell from their response whether it was a real ID or a fake.
Just cos it's your job to judge people doesn't mean you have to be a jerk about it.
I think the the girl was crying because you took her fake, and the guy made up that story to be an ass. They probably went home and laughed about it. "Haha, I'm so badass!"
Totally not OP's fault. He never said he thought that the girl was ugly, or called the girl ugly or disfigured. Clearly she still looked presentable, since she was out at a club and the bouncer didn't say anything about it (as far as we know). The odds are much higher that an ID photo that doesn't match the person is because of a fake, not because of a car crash that left her disfigured. Also, even if none of that were true, it's not the bouncer's job to preserve feelings, only security.
Why should a bouncer be nice to a person who is trying to illegally get alcohol? Are the cops nice when they bust down your door and catch you in the middle of a drug deal?
it' so pointless to type down here. if you not the first 10 posts, your not gettin read. on another note, how fucked up did this girls face get. i would imagine pretty fucked up if she didn't remotely look like her I.D. pic
#128 - On 04/01/2009 at 8:42pm by deuce_wild
You should have been like, "In your FACE, sucka!" No that would have made it worst.
Seriously though, you couldn't have known. That dude could have played you too. So with this in mind, don't take it too seriously and don't be so gullible. Call a spade a spade, dude, and if someone gives you mouth, just use your best judgment, as you just did.
I was moderating the FMLs (because I'm bored), and the girl you did this too wrote her FML about what you did!
Today, I tried to enter a bar with a group of my friends. The bouncer looked at my I.D. and told me that the next time I used a fake I.D., I should at least use one with a picture that looks like me. My face had been badly disfigured in a car wreck. FML
On 04/01/2009 at 7:34pm - miscellaneous
not really your fault... its your job to try to detect fakes, and it could have easily been one.
Good on you I say. You just saved some dude from making a horrible drunken mistake that he would regret in the morning.
@#2, the op wasn't judging her. it's not like he said "haha, she got in a car accident! what a loser!" or anything like it.
and all you people who says "YDI" need to grow up. just because her feelings got hurt, does not mean he did it on purpose or could have prevented it in any way. it sucks that she was in an accident, and it sucks she was disfigured, but if you're checking ids to get into a club and someone gives you an id with a picture that looks completely different than what they look like in person, you're obviously going to question the id's validity.
It wasn't your fault, you couldn't have known.
Like a lot of people before me have said: You couldn't have known she'd been in a car accident necessarily. This particular case of judgment may have been in error, but at least you did what you thought was right....even though it made you look like an ass.
#137 - On 04/01/2009 at 9:27pm by YouGotJizzed
It sucks when you do what you're supposed to do, yet still end up looking like an ass.
not your fault at all. also the girl could've been a bit more understanding and not have run out crying like that. she should have gotten her ID updated to avoid this kind of thing
that was probably a lie, dont worry, not your fault
i was just moderating the FMLs, and whoever the girl was that you did this to posted her version of the story.
This comment has been moderated.
when it's your job to kick out anyone who's not of the right age, you can hardly take time to word in a manner that is considerate to the hypothetical situation of each and every customer.
"Oh, maybe this one had a nose job! Or a face lift!"
"Oh, maybe this one accidentally poured acid on himself!"
no.
if i were the girl, i would've taken into consideration the fact that I obviously don't look like i did before the accident and that this guy was doing his job and nothing else.
#128 - WRONG. i read your post. =P
OP, don't feel like a douche. no biggie. she'll get over it.
50/50 on this..but i can see why it's an fml for you >.
If she had any scars you probably should have looked into it. If not then it is your job to remove people who don't look like their I.D. For all you know that could have been a backup plan if you didn't let her in.
when in doubt:
1) alternate ID please.
when in further doubt:
2) confiscate it.
chances are, if they're caught using fake id, they'll throw a fit about it. and you just tell them to call the cops or local authority. =)
EDIT: apologies for the half finished post above..dunno what happened..
This is not your fault at all, not even remotely.
People who think it is are just too sensitive.
You didn't know, you were doing your job, and she should have updated her photo.
People who think he deserved that, grow up.
what is he suppose to do? be super friendly and considerate to everyone keeping in mind the possibilities of people in car wrecks? No. They have to be firm and honest, because THEY can get into trouble if they let people in who could be younger they could loose their job.
If the person w/ID does not look like the person in the ID photo,
THERE IS NO WAY THAT I WILL TAKE IT AS GOOD.
You didn't do anything wrong. You couldn't have known and you were doing your job. I'd feel bad if I were in your position as well, but don't worry about it. At least you do your job well and take it seriously.
I love how on this site, you atomaticly get YDI from people if the FML was caused by the poster in any way. But if it was caused by someone else, the poster gets a YLIF.
This definitely wasn't your fault. You were doing your job and made an innocent mistake.
You didn't do anything wrong. Fake I.D's are a big problem nowadays and you did your job by being strict .
I'm with you man, you were just doing your job, stopping underages to drink at that times. If you think about it thoroughly, what you are doing is basically preventing other kids to drive drunk and having accidents that will leave your face totally disfigured. Totally don't deserve it.
#131 I always wondered if something like that could happen lol although, i dont see that one on the list
No way you coulda known... it's hard to be a bouncer AND be sensitive. You were just doing your job =\
No 2 he is a bouncer, its his job to judge people like that. You must be retarded.
Also if she was badly disfigured then she should have gotten a new ID, the cops would probably arrest her for using a false ID if she was asked for it and didn't look like the person on the ID.
It sucks, but that life, those pictures serve a purpose.
#142: I appreciate the "stupid" comment, if you would be so kind, refer to the posting instructions - it says to start it with "today" it happened last night. Jeesh.
Everybody else: Thanks. Made me feel better about it, it just kind of sucked, and I thought it would be entertaining for everybody on here.
#156 - On 04/01/2009 at 10:43pm by tsardaukar
I don't know, this one is kind of a toss up. Did she LOOK completely disfigured? Then perhaps he was out of line. But it's his job to be suspicious, and if she's had the surgery (plastic or reconstructive) to make her look "normal" again, albeit different than the pic, then it's an FML.
Yeah it's more of an FHL.
#158 - On 04/01/2009 at 11:14pm by jeaneanerz
The people saying that he could have phrased it more nicely are completely missing it.
What made her cry was the realization that the accident prevented her from being recognized as the same person she was before. There's no way he could have questioned that without touching on the fact that she just doesn't look like that anymore.
In my opinion, it is either an incredibly unfortunate misunderstanding or an underage girl who is really good at crying on command.
When my sister was in a horrific car accident, she almost lost the entire left side of her face (but didn't, thanks to reconstruction). Her jaw was broken, many of her teeth knocked out, and several bones were severely crushed. In her case, and in most cases, the main focus of the EMTs was not to salvage her current license or any other belongings, but to save her life.
When she was released from the hospital, she was not only required to get a NEW license, but she had to take her driving test all over again.
Now, if this young lady was fortunate enough to have someone at the scene of the accident worried about her wallet and other worldly possessions, I am clearly out of line for assuming that she would have had to have gotten a new license.
To the poster: If not, I'm sorry you had to deal with those kinds of shenanigans.
i've been thinking about this, and i bet they planned it like that. it was a fake with someone else and they just had a script for what to do/say if they got hassled... YOU NEVER KNOW WITH THESE KIDS THESE DAYS
and #2 is retarded. he's a bouncer; it's his job.
It seems like you would be able to tell if someone was badly disfigured... but that aside, this isn't so much a fuck your life as a fuck HER life. That poor girl has probably been trying to convince herself ever since it happened that she'll look/she does still look like herself, and it would really hurt to hear otherwise.
That sucks man. I understand the guilt you must feel but as how many have said, no way you could have known.
aww that sucks...but you had no idea.
Well I mean if she was badly disfigured she should've went and taken
a new picture
I mean for all you know it was a fake id and her friends were guilt tripping you
to still come let her drink
I mean it is april fulls XD
regardless you were just doing your job =/
cant u tell if someone's badly disfigured from the start?
yea can't you tell if they're disfigured?
#169 - On 04/02/2009 at 1:14am by stud
That's horrible...but not really your fault.
She shoulda gotten a new fucking id after the accident, how are you supposed th know that. Just doing your job bro, don't sweat it.
Agreed.
Maybe it was just a cover story anyway.
bouncers are just mean most of the time. YDI maybe you'll learn to be nicer to people from now on.
#173 - On 04/02/2009 at 1:39am by blinkingstarlet
how selfish of you for doing your job *shakes head* people these days thinking they can judge people by their photo i.d's...
but for all you idiots questioning how you could not tell someone is "disfigured", ugly born people don't get away with that excuse so it could be quite easy.
To all those saying it's her fault for not getting a new ID, would that really be a top priority for you after being in an horrible accident and having reconstructive surgery? If it was a car wreck that caused it, I wouldn't want to be driving anytime soon and the thought probably wouldn't even cross my mind that the pic on my license wouldn't match up (or perhaps I'd delude myself into hoping it did). And to the person claiming she probably would have had to lose it in the accident, I forget and leave my ID at home often so there's always that possibility.
Bouncers are so obnoxious trying to be all hardcore with their little power trip of checking IDs. Just do the job without the commentary, jackass.
#113 yes, the majority of people do go to bars/clubs at night. But on the same note, the majority of the bars give the bouncer a flashlight or put them in a better lit area...so they can see who they're looking at.
Anyway, the OP wasn't being rude. I guarantee all you wouldn't be jumping down his throat had he said what he said to a person with a real fake.
#176 - On 04/02/2009 at 1:56am by t_annie
i find it odd that you couldn't tell the difference between some one who didn't look like their picture from someone who looks disfigured and doesn't look like their pic. if i saw a mutilated face i'd think ya, that must have sucked this could be her picture, other than this chick in the picture looks like someone else.
also, wouldn't she legally need to get a new licensed due to the drastic physical appearance change? i'd think not doing so could cause some problems if she gets pulled over.
So was it a fake? Or just out of date?
Don't feel bad. It's your job to question things like that; and the idea of photo I.D is visual recognition right? So if she looks different it's your job to question it.
As for #173 and comments similar. You dumb fuck.
Do you not understand the concept of bouncers? The shit they deal with to give you a better night?
Jeez.
#`64 she HAD been badly disfigured - meaning she wasnt now - meaning plastic surgery most likely. so she probably didnt look like she had been in a car wreck - she just didnt look like she used to. we do live in what century again?
so you probably couldnt have been able to realize that she had been in a wreck. it happens. not your fault.
#146: Actually, in many jurisdictions it's illegal for a bouncer to confiscate what he believes is a fake ID because there is always a chance it could be real. The most he can do is refuse service.
@ #182
he could've asked properly,
not so judging
lol, not ur fault obviously
ur a bouncer if u seem like a nice person at the door your gonna be a bad bouncer so the little comment you gave to her was nothing
where i live drivers license are swiped at the doors to see right away if they are real, so finding out real or fake is not a problem
@#173 bouncers arent supposed to be NICE, they deal with lots of people throughout the night and have to protect others, be nice ? that wont get the job done
How was he supposed to know? =/
Sorry she was hurt and whatnot, but SDI. She should get her ID updated, and then she won't have that problem.
Grow a spine, bouncer, you're doing your job.
Not your fault at all. No way to tell and people try to use fake ones all the time.
i feel bad for her, but there is no way he could have known that. not his fault.
ok #178- is that a joke? or are you actually just retarded?
Why is your like f---ed? What about the girl?
Rather than running off crying she should have explained the situation to you. Not your fault, and anyone here who says it is should be eaten.
You're just a doorman, DOORMAN!
#71... "I'm just saying what I think" is often the justification for saying horrible insensitive things.
An observation can be an opinion and still manage to be obnoxious,
If her appearance changes, she needs to update her ID. Her fault entirely. What, if I go and get plastic surgery on my face, I'm not supposed to go update my photo ID or something? Idiots. Use your heads for more than hat racks for once.
stop with all the fucking bullshit stories....how hard is it to tell the fucking difference between a girl with a disfigured face and one without?
Fucking idiot...people like you ruin FML
Its not your fault dude, there's no way you could have known that.
You were right to turn her away, but I do think there are better ways of going about it.
I have a legitimate I.D but because I happen to look really young, bouncers often treat it with suspicion at first (although they have on all but one occassion had the sense to know that it's real). I'm used to it and understand that they are just doing their job, so for the most part, I don't make too much fuss. (I also used to work in a bar so have had to I.D people myself). However very occassionally it can feel as though bouncers set out to humiliate you- it's horrible to be made to feel like you're doing something wrong when all you want to do is go for a quiet (legal!) drink with friends. Although OP's comment wasn't THAT bad, I do think it was an arrogant way of turning someone away. Asking for alternative I.D would have been sufficient.
you think your a big man because your a bouncer? fuck you.
There really needs to be a "F Their Life" button.
But anyway, you were just doing your job.
how should you know? psh! whatever, chill people.
It's not like you knew. Anyone that bashes you doesn't have any right. You were doing your job, looking at the picture AND then the person. It's not your fault.
Its probably bullshit... she is just ugly and underaged and her friends were making excuses to make the person who shot them down feel bad.
#7- Right, because EVERYONE that goes into a bar HAS to drink. It IS possible to go to one and hang out sober while your friends drink.
i smell a free drink for her improbable next time
You're a bouncer. That implies you are at a low level on the socioeconomic totem pole. Which also implies you're probably pretty stupid. Can't blame you.
I think there are more polite ways to go about it. Couldn't you ask her for her birth date? Most people with fake IDs don't memorize the fake date, and if she stumbles on it, then it's obvious it's fake.
Wouldn't her face have had scarring or something that would have clued you in on the accident?
painful, for you and her!
#207 - On 04/02/2009 at 3:54pm by Naomerd
Not your fault dude, no way you could've known.
I agree with #205. Besides, what college town bouncers turn away underage girls?
It's not your fault because that was your job and you couldn't have known.
This guy did nothing wrong, for all those who think he did.
1.) There was no intent to be cruel to her. He didn’t know about the surgery. The comment had been said as a means to brush off her using a fake ID in his view in a humorous while still keeping an upper hand as an authority figure. Additionally if they were busy he has no time to argue, and can rightfully turn them away.
2.) Checking to see if she can recite the birth date on the card is a poor method if the authenticity of the ID is in question. It is a common question and can easily be memorized quickly. The only safe thing to do from a liability standpoint is to turn them away.
3.) The girl should not use this ID as her legal identification. It is no longer valid of someone cannot recognize her as the person in the photo. It is as if she changed her address or name. Had she gotten pulled over and gave an officer this ID chances are she be lucky to get a warning and told to update it.
Too bad. Can't blame a person for not knowing.
Little did you know that it was all part of her scheme. >_>
yo don't feel bad... its your job...

@ 175:
("To all those saying it's her fault for not getting a new ID, would that really be a top priority for you after being in an horrible accident and having reconstructive surgery?")
no you're right, my top priority after a horrible accident and reconstructive surgery would be to go out to a bar (which requires recognizable ID) so i could surround myself with people who would scrutinize my appearance whether i wanted them to or not. get real. homegirl needs to get her priorities straight.
by law, she should have a new id. seriously.
TOo anyone saying she needs a new ID
they update photos every 5 years...
so............ yeah....
you shouldn't have been such an ass refusing it.
"This picture doesn't look like you, I can't accept this" would have been fine as well.
#217- yea but if she looks nothing like her id, she shouldn't wait 5 years- obviously
#218- um yeah the bouncer can be an ass all he wants, they see people try to get in with ridiculous fakes too often sorry if he doesn't remember his manners every time
PS it probably is a made-up story! my friends make up stories like that when they try to get into the bars too
They probably made it up. I don't blame you. You have the law to deal with. IDK if bars get this (I'm sure you do, though) but at the supermarket I work at we get random government checks to make sure we're not selling beer and cigarettes to minors.
i want to point out, the 1st time the OP commented was comment 21
Well, maybe your saying that made it seem like she didn't look obviously disfigured, so it could be construed as a sideways compliment?
that's too bad, but it wasn't your fault, you couldn't have known.
wow what a bad one
#225 - On 04/20/2009 at 10:15pm by dancerbabes
Guy just probably said it to make you feel bad.
He might of made it up, but that's a bad situation. FYL
I agree with those of you who are saying that it's not his fault at all, and I agree that she should have got her ID updated (that is the law in most places, and it's just common sense) - however, I do encourage you to remember that if someone WAS horribly disfigured in an accident, having to update their ID to reflect that would probably count as a fairly traumatic experience and something that you, yourselves, would avoid doing if it happened to you. So cut her a little slack too.
Anyone else notice this was posted on april fools day?
What an ass hole u are. Maybe you should clean up your act (and maybe YOUR face while your at it...)
It's not your fault you didn't know, but YDI for being such an ass in the first place.
Surely if someone has a badly disfigured face, you can tell that's a disfigurement and not just a different face.
it depends how harshly u said it but in my eyes it aint your fault, ppl on this site r so stupid,. how did u deserve it???1
#234 - On 08/11/2009 at 2:46pm by youngboss
not your fault...you were just doin your job
Aw poor lady! :(. Anyways fyl, she shouldve updated her I'd and f her life for getting bad luck.
