It's maths

By bastawhiz - 18/09/2009 02:23 - United States

Today, a professor approached me in the hall to ask if, since I'm a math major, I could tutor one of her communications majors in a required Calculus course. Apparently the volunteer tutor the school provides "is a complete dumbass." I'm the school's volunteer tutor. FML

You volunteer tutor?? Dude, get yourself paid for that gig! I used to tutor in university and you can make some decent cash that way! Although, no offense, but it sounds like you're not a very good tutor. So, plan: improve your tutoring, then insist on pay.

bastawhiz, nice to meet you. You're a complete dumb ass.

Ha at least the mods are pretty good here. OP-better learn to differentiate and integrate :P

It's a volunteer tutor who tutors the tutors on how to tutor.

#6 is that a part of your strategery? :P And #9 OP did not state he is the "volunteer tutor tutor" at the end. ___________________________ www.myspace.com/rapid99

Alan! Yay. I would even like you if I weren't interested in "sucking up" to the staff. :)

Never said he was or stated that; was just answering the question.

from the FML it appears that there's only one school volunteer tutor. and i doubt the professor would call you a complete dumbass without reason. YDI for being a complete dumbass. FYL for hearing the truth.

lol i know, right? also, he's a math major... but tutors a school? is this the school he's enrolled in? do americans just call uni/college 'school' or is he volunteering in an entirely different place?

Yeah, 'school' is casually synonymous with College in the US. Any learning institution is 'school'. And while we may be at a University very few people say 'I was going to University today...' but we definitely would say 'that the University provides...'. Diff'rent strokes fer diff'rent folks.

You deserve it for being a crap-ass tutor.

hmmm...does anyone else think the first sentence sounds funny? Either the OP needs an English tutor tutor or I do.

No, grammar is correct. It is just choppy with the phrase in commas. However, that is mathematics for you 3 - 2 = 1ish. Everything is separated... they like that kind of thing I guess.

I blame the fact that it had to start with "today", rather than having it in the middle of the sentence (which would have been easier to follow).

there are probably a whole bunch of tutors the school provides. they probably didn't even mean you, OP :)

If they meant you... You might want to consider stop being a tutor. Honestly, it is great that you want to volunteer to helping others but teaching really isn't as easy as one could think. Especially when you need to teach something to people who haven't understood the concepts during the lessons/lectures as they have harder time to learn it than most of the students. If you aren't good enough at it, leave the spot open for someone who is. That said... Just because one dense student called you a dumbass doesn't yet mean anything if most of the students have been very satisfied.

I hope to hell that the "communications major" is hot! No matter how good a tutor you are, you are not going to be able to put any calculus in her, so you might as well get your dick in her, so it won't be a CWOT*. Complete Waste of Time. This acronym will become very useful when you have a job that requires meetings.

how the **** is this an fml?! "oh poor you your life is soooo ****** now. you have to tutor some kids who are not as smart as you, and you don't have the balls to tell them you can't or don't want to do it."
