Today, I was at a meeting. One of the other members decided to share that their cat had passed away recently. I got an uncontrollable nervous laugh, started crying because I was laughing so hard, and left the room while everyone watched in horror. FML

At least now OP Will not get a funeral invite.

Well, sometimes you can't control your laugh attacks. Its going to be so embarrassing for OP to face those people again.

#1 said it all... You're pretty messed up...

Show it anyway

Not only is something wrong with you OP, but you have offended the guardians of the underworld. Good luck

25- I don't completely agree. I believe for some people, they aren't actually laughing at a dead cat or any other misfortune, it's just a nervous reaction because they don't know what else to do in that situation and they panic. Some people just burst into tears. Some get the shakes. Some laugh themselves silly. :) We've all seen it before, it just happens I guess.

50- ive never seen this happen before

I have a nervous laugh as well. It's embarrassing and uncontrollable. She tried to leave the room. in those moments where you can't control your nerves, that's the best you can do. Sorry OP. trying to get others to understand is hard. GL

Feel with you.. In akward times I start laughing too. I feel so bad :(

All you people jumping up at OP need to chill the **** out. Many people have a nervous reaction that involves laughing, plus some people (like OP) when they realize they're laughing it makes them more nervous do they laugh more. OP isn't some cold hearted bitch or some lunatic, that's just her nervous tick. I've laughed a bit at funerals and it's not that anything funny happened or that I'm laughing at the event, it's just a lot of pressure that can make your mind do things it normally wouldn't. I'm sorry, OP, I've had experiences similar to that. You just need to explain it to them as soon as possible. Hope it all works out.

87- Thank you for saying that! I have nervous ticks that are, sometimes, uncontrollable. I get 'the giggles' when I feel anxious, nervous, or frustrated. I have received many 'Go-to-Hell' looks for it. I just can't help it! I take medication for my anxiety but the meds don't cure the problem. It just eases the anxiety and makes it less extreme. Sometimes, I feel even more nervous from all the looks I'm receiving and it turns into laughter. Then, like the OP, I have to leave the room in pure humiliation. All while appearing to be amused. It's a terrible thing to endure. OP, it sounds silly, but when you start to get nervous or feel anxious, take deep breaths and imagine really sincere things. Try to relax! It doesn't always help, but, most of the time, it will! Good luck, OP! :)

Why is OP nervous? Did she kill the cat?

Just come back, apologize, and explain. I'm sure they'll understand.

He could play it off that his cat died recently and he was just trying not to cry.... awkward :(

If that doesn't work, just tell them to Feel The Bum! That might help! ;) (Sorry, horrible joke but I couldn't help it! Lol!) :D

The brain is so annoying. It's always like "Hmm remember that funny moment?" during a serious time.

That's true, it always happens to me. It makes the people around me think that I'm a total nut. 0_ o
