So you largely avoided loaning the government money interest-free. How is that an FML?
I think what's an FML is how long it took for him to get his return, I mean we're in October...

I don't think so, but that could be. Even then, though, it's not an FML, since she didn't get much of a refund. The cost of waiting six months for $1.36 is pretty low.
they also take the time to bill you for $1.36.

All that means is you did your taxes better than most people. YLIG.
Yea, I was going to say. Most people OWE money every year. This should be a "WOO HOO I DONT OWE THE GOVERNMENT MONEY" rather than "FML I made money"
I sense a trip to McDonald's in your future!

Tax returns don't come this late in the year. Fake.
#9 - On 10/27/2009 at 7:43pm by Rota
It's not possible the OP filed for an extension and only recently paid his taxes?
They do if you file your taxes this late in the year (at least in Canada). I filed my taxes for 2006 and 2008 about two months ago (I lived out of the country for part of each year and had lost some of the paperwork when I moved back ... long story), and I *just* got my return literally two weeks ago.
I think this FML could be plausible. Whether you consider *not* owing money to be something to gripe about however, is an altogether different story.
You can file two extensions to your April 15th due date.
I agree with Rota. Fake.. My tax return this year came out to 80 something cents and they rounded it up to $1 and mailed me a check..
Canada doesn't send out anything less than $2, nor does it collect any tax debt less than $2.
If this is true, the states are pretty fucking inefficient.
Yeah, because 64 cents makes us so much worse than you.
Actually it is good. It saves time and money from mailing stupid checks. Do you realize that now stamps are 41 cents? Which is roughly 1/4 of my state return this year. Would it not have been better to just call it even? I think I can manage to scrape up about 2 dollars of change if I need it that bad. Canada is more efficient than us in multiple ways. Pull your head out of your ass.

The best part is: If they owe you less than a dollar, YOU have to bother THEM to get it.
If you owe less than a dollar, you can bet your ass you better pay up or get audited.
Riiiight... IRS will audit you for owing one dollar. That makes sense.
If you've been audited, it's because you either have a high income, were randomly selected, or you did something very stupid with your tax return. It has nothing to do with how much you owe. In fact, if you admit you owe a lot in tax, they WON'T audit you! They don't need to, because you already admitted you owe.
The IRS depends on people being ignorant of how they operate. It makes their job easier when people are afraid of them.

I agree with many above. Why bitching about doing your taxes well. I would have been happy to hear this.
The gummit is a walking disease.. /cocks rifle
not sure I understand this... but I like anything to do with 'lock and load'...
To the morons who don't understand how a tax refund (and yes, it's a tax refund... the "tax return" is the paperwork you file, the refund is money you get back) could be received in October, it works like this:
Tax returns are due April 15. But you can file your return any time before or after that date. If you file after, and you owe money, you will be penalized for filing late. But if you don't owe (or are getting a refund) and you file late, there is no penalty.
Some people file years late and owe no penalties because they were due a refund. Some people file their returns in October and are due a refund of $1.36. And they get it a few weeks after filing.
As one of the morons you're trying to educate - thanks.
Now can you tell me who this is connected to the topic?
I am not sure he could tell you anything that you would understand.
my brother got a penny once
did he have all good luck - that day?
a dollar's a dollar. Imagine if the government didn't waste paper and time to send you that dollar. You might have had to go without a dollar cheeseburger from Mcdonald's and wouldn't that have just been awful?
i'm failing to see the FML...you got $1.36
I would not brag about being so bad at withholding.
Don't spend it all in one place.
what happend to fML?!?! I'm going to stop reading these. Seriously. People need to get their lives to be more FML-ish!!!
my first time doing my taxes, I got back $5. lol
How do you not know how much you're getting back ahead of time? You figure it out right on the form.
My appreciation for paying taxes, and not sponging off of me.

FAKE! Even if you filed the extention for october 15th, the IRS demads that you round everything to the nearest dollar so everything will come out even. Even if you do not round to the nearest dollar if you submitted electronicly the program will auto round for you, I fyou did it by paper the IRS rounds it anyways. So there is no way that you would have gooton a refund with change attached, nice try next time say 1 dollar or 2.
Absolutely wrong.
IRS regs clearly state that if you use change with your dollar amounts, you MUST use it in every line, on every calculation.
almost everything the govt does is stupid and a complete waste of money. the one good thing cash for clunkers did is get all the pos cars with obama stickers off the road. thank god.
Did you know that America still pours money into the homestead act? Despite the fact that the extreme majority of American farms are commercialized, Midwestern states elect a group of conservative senators who fight against the repeal of this useless bill. Obama has done the best he could with what he has been given.
WTF... "extreme majority"?
Me thinks your grammar is extreme.
in canada they don't bother with differences of 2 bucks. so if you owe 1.99 you're good.

you can buy a soda!!!!!!!!!!!
not worth the paper, ink, or stamp that was used for it
Hello and welcome to the socialist thinking ObamaNation that is America today!!! Woohoo I love throwing my money away to pay for illegal immigration and useless government agencies that don't do jack crap! Is this the "Change" you were looking for when America voted for Obama! Now I just find myself laughing at all the incompetent fools that would vote for a man hell bent on destroying American Capitalism! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! You reap what you sow!!
Yeah. It's a bummer we don't have Machiavelli Jr. in office anymore. That turned out awesome; he managed to make Nixon look benign.
sound like your a Republican who can't accept what the previous president screwed up that you wont allow him to take credit for because you want to blame the "antichrist Obama" Just get over your self.
who moderated this crap in? STFU you'll live to see another day,
FML for reading this crap
Omg, Luckster you fucking rule!!!!! I have been saying the same thing for about 6 months!!! Anywho, atleast you don't owe anything.
no need for an extension if the IRS owes you. if you owe them, than yes you'll need one. op: don't be a bitch. at least you got some money back. they could just say f u and not give us anything.

YDI... really, you did, thats why they sent it...
Wow, could your life get any worse? You got a check in the mail for enough to go buy a cheeseburger or something...come back when you're being audited over $1.36 and then FYL...
Except that they do because they sent me one for $1.20 last year. Fail. Make up a better FML.
does it say where OP is from? I've got the fml app only. limited function. if she's from down under (Australia), we get until October 31st to do ours. we don't get to start doing them until 1st July. and also, the amount doesn't need to be rounded off. and if OP isn't from Australia, I guess this was just a waste of time lol
They're from the United States.
Just don't blow it all on booze and hookers, you lousy degeneate.
Don't worry -- next year you might do better and not get *any* refund. Better luck next time at not loaning the government money interest free.

This is not an FML - You should be happy. I don't like getting a big refund at the end of the year. It means too much was withheld during the year and I essentially gave the govt. an interest-free loan.
I'm calling bullshit on this one because the IRS does not deal in change. All change is converted to a zero. The amount her refund would have been is $1.
False. They round, not truncate.
This is a lie, I have personally received a tax return check in the value of $1.00. I framed it.
It probably cost the govt. $3 to print that check! Way to stick it to the man!!!
Agreed, getting your tax refund is NOT an FML . . . . the mods must be high again!
could be worse, you could owe them.
Nothing bad about that! Just go buy a muffin or something.
