Today, I saw an elderly man fall in a crosswalk, so I jumped off my bike to help. As I helped him across, the light turned green. At that point I noticed my phone had fallen out of my pocket in the street and was run over by several cars. I then watched across a 6 lane street as someone stole my bike. FML

It's okay if you don't believe in Karma, but there is a similar line of thought that's much more definite. Chances are, if there's a guy who steals someone's bike, then they're not a generally good person, and probably get themselves into bad situations. Given this, eventually at some point probability will have it that the bad deed he does does not go unnoticed, and he will pay for it. You can at least take solace in the fact that the same logic holds true for you, and that your good deeds will one day go noticed and will be rewarded subsequently.
you didn't deserve it; but in todays world you should be wise enough to know don't leave anything of any value whatsoever not under supervision; it will get stolen!

If you could have helped that elderly man, but didn't, and he'd been hurt, you would feel much worse. If someone asked you for your cell phone and bike, in exchange for that man's life, my guess is that you'd freely give them up.

This is things that make you wonder a lot and get you on a horrible mood for a while, you got to pay attention to what happends to you everyday and maybe in the future you'll realize that loosing that phone or bike actually helped you. Know what I mean?

Dude, I've read these thing for over an hour, but this is the best ever.. Laughed so hard.. But at the same time i feel sorry for you, since you lost your bike and phone. But you helped the man, and that is the most important thing :)

i agree that your life is pretty harsh to lose your bike and phone at the same time is really messed up. not much you can do though except go to the police and report the missing bike. really sorry for ya man but you did the right thing so you walked away feeling good:-)
