Man or woman?

Today, I missed my University entrance exam because of heavy traffic. I was stuck at one intersection for over an hour. The real kicker? It took me less than 10 minutes to drive home. FML

I agree, your life sucks (19721) - you totally deserved it (1516)

Yikes. Well, if the traffic was really that bad, it might have made the news or something... I'm sure someone will understand and let you make up the exam (if this is recent at all).

#1 - On 10/22/2009 at 2:11pm by Tequilamockngbrd

Well, if it was so close that you can drive back that fast, it should be not very far away and you should have anticipated traffic by knowing the area and volume of people trying to get in and out to take the test. You shouldn't have been a lazy fatass and ridden a bike, ydi.

#25 - On 10/22/2009 at 7:20pm by youreanidiot

Sir or ma'am, not everyone owns a bike. There are all kinds of reasons why OP might not have been able to just walk or ride a bike, but I'm not going to write about them here because different people have already listed them.

#28 - On 10/22/2009 at 9:43pm by Tequilamockngbrd

#25 - does that mean i should have anticipated that my normal 30-minute drive to my doctor's office would take an hour and a half because of an accident that shut down the entire freeway? no. shit happens, it's not the OP's fault traffic was bad and bad traffic is not always predictable. not to mention, in 10 minutes, at 70mph, that would be 11½ miles. i wouldn't want to bike 11½ miles, would you?

#31 - On 10/22/2009 at 11:35pm by diet_otaku

should have got out and walked then

That would indeed be a very fucked life however.

Missing your entrance exam isn't really a "little" thing...

#38 - On 10/23/2009 at 10:43am by Emma_91

YDI for not timing it right, and setting off early, and getting stuck in traffic as a result.

#4 - On 10/22/2009 at 2:21pm by Bright_Lights

Yes. Because somehow you know exactly how it happened.

How would you spell bicycle? Because that's how you spell it DUMBASS

#19 - On 10/22/2009 at 4:48pm by Chantallika

This is a little of both. That's really bad luck. At the same time, you should have planned ahead for everything. Especially for something this important. You should have prepared to arrive much earlier.

#7 - On 10/22/2009 at 2:39pm by katieisfantab

If you leave an hour early even though it is only a ten minute drive, I'm pretty sure it can be assumed that base was trying to be covered. :o

#35 - On 10/23/2009 at 2:00am by BLNovelist

It didn't say the OP left an hour early, just that he was stuck at one intersection for an hour. He could have left only 10 minutes before the exam started for all we know. It's a FYL because traffic sucks and is unpredictable, but it's a YDI for not planning better. Especially if you lived local (considering it took you 10 minutes to get home) you should have known backroads and took another route if traffic was really that bad. You should always know multiple routes.

#36 - On 10/23/2009 at 3:29am by KelMarCos

I hate when people say "The real kicker?" or "Wanna know the kicker?" It's so douchy sounding.

#9 - On 10/22/2009 at 2:50pm by lovemee12

this is dumb I bet this has happened to u b4...

#11 - On 10/22/2009 at 3:07pm by KiddNYC10

You should've called and re-scheduled

#12 - On 10/22/2009 at 3:18pm by darkmis1

It's an exam, I don't know how the system is where the OP lives, but that's not usually possible.
You've gotta make it on time, if you don't then you're not getting into college that year.

Please note that we have added a consequence for failure. Any contact with the chamber floor will result in an unsatisfactory mark on your official testing record, followed by death.

Why did you not WALK then?

#16 - On 10/22/2009 at 3:46pm by Ellowise

He's in a fucking car, you're saying he should have just gotten out and left it there? Just read what #22 and #27 said.

#29 - On 10/22/2009 at 10:53pm by begeru

I am assuming you drive because you are a lazy arse, and not because you have some disability. If that is really the case, let's face it... You couldn't manage to learn to ride a bike, are you sure university isn't a bit too challenging? I am sure there's some other jobs you could try... Mc Donald's comes to mind, and since you don't exercise you are probably fat anyway, so you have nothing to lose

#17 - On 10/22/2009 at 4:04pm by dan_tichrist

are you fucking serious? you really expect people to bike 10, 20, 40 miles around the metroplex instead of driving a car and getting there in 1/10th of the time and not arriving exhausted and drenched in sweat?

#32 - On 10/22/2009 at 11:40pm by diet_otaku

that must be so frustrating being stuck in traffic while ur missing an exam. and if it takes ten minutes to go home, y couldnt u walk? it'll probably take about 15-20 minutes. not so bad

#18 - On 10/22/2009 at 4:09pm by jessxoxo28

A 10 min drive does not equal a 15 min walk. I don't know about you, but I don't know a lot of ppl who can walk 50 kph.

And to those who say he deserves it for not planning ahead.....he was stuck for an HOUR at one intersection. While he should have been there early in case of traffic, it's a bit unreasonable to expect him to be at his exam several hours beforehand (especially if it's a 7am exam) just in case something insane happens. Nobody plans for a traffic jam of over an hour.

And to the rest of you who say he should have gotten out and walked.....and what? Leave his car sitting in the middle of the road? So he can come out of his exam and not only have to pay a huge fine to get his car out of the impound lot, but also the huge ticket that will come with it?

F all your lives for being idiots, you bunch of morons. I hope you get a re-write OP. :)

#22 - On 10/22/2009 at 5:11pm by Kukua

well said :)

#23 - On 10/22/2009 at 6:19pm by jeniilouise

a 10 minute drive is a longer walk than you'd think. or bike ride, for that matter. a 10 minute drive can be 4-40 miles, if you think about it. depending on if you take an interstate or local roads, uphill or downhill inclines. there' much to consider before you go with something like 'get off your lazy ass' or 'go buy a bike' . hell, the 10 minute drive to my school back in the day was an hour an 45 mins to a 2 and a half hour walk home. just saying.

#20 - On 10/22/2009 at 4:50pm by _THE_MASTER_

wtf to ppl saying op shoulda got out his car and walked seriously wtf

kudos #22 well said indeed

#24 - On 10/22/2009 at 7:17pm by KiddNYC10

I am amazed how stupid people insulting OP are. Quite frankly being stuck in one spot for over an hour shows that he left more than early enough to get there on time. I am baffled that you don't realize a 10 minute drive averaging 25mph, which is more than a reasonable assumption, is between 4 and 5 miles. As for using a bike, it might have helped, but maybe he wanted to get there quicker to mentally prepare so he got in a car, then lo and behold, he got screwed for trying to be responsable. Sorry dude, better luck next time.

#26 - On 10/22/2009 at 7:22pm by McBadAss

Wow there are a lot of retards on here. As someone who lives in a city with very heavy traffic, I can honestly say that there's no way you can really plan for "unusually heavy traffic" that has you sitting there for an hour. Unusually heavy traffic is usually caused by an accident or something else you can't really be notified of ahead of time.

And for those saying that the OP should have taken a bike or walked don't know jack. What was the OP supposed to do? Got out and left their car in the middle of the road. And if the OP had to take a highway to his destination he wouldn't have been able to take a bike anyway, since they're not allowed on highways (maybe in Australia they are. I don't know.) Either way, a short drive in a car does not mean a short ride on a bike.

OP, that really sucks. Maybe they'll let you make it up. Heavy traffic can be so frustrating. :(

#27 - On 10/22/2009 at 9:16pm by PhillyFox

Bad planning fail. I hope you work at wal-mart forever, idiot. Always plan ahead!!

#34 - On 10/23/2009 at 1:32am by Mx_Rider

I agree with the people who say you should have just ditched your car. OOH a big fine. OOH a ticket.

This is your fucking Uni entry exam. It's worth it.

#41 - On 10/23/2009 at 11:07am by Leoplum

That's why you're supposed to leave "early" and not just "on time."

#42 - On 10/23/2009 at 11:30am by blastvortex

...you could have parked somewhere and walked.

#43 - On 10/23/2009 at 2:07pm by livexlaughxlove1

... provided there were parking spaces in his immediate vicinity. You can't just turn around and drive around to find a parking spot when you're stuck in a traffic jam, right?

#44 - On 10/23/2009 at 3:11pm by __no_one__

Welcome to Brisbane peak-hour traffic. Next time may I suggest a bus!
