Today, I worked my first day at a nursery. At nap time I spent about an hour trying to get all the kids to calm down and go to sleep. I'd finally got the last one to drop off, when my phone rang. Loudly. FML

The children never really nap anyway. They're just laying there with their eyes shut plotting ways to get their revenge against stupid grown-ups that make them do dumb craft with macaroni, and how to get back at that kid who eats all the good play-dough. ... besides, a small child that really asleep wouldn't wake up to a phone ringing, smoke alarms don't wake them and I doubt your phone is louder than a smoke alarm

You're right, the_stereotype. I worked at a daycare a few years ago. You're allowed to have your phone - obviously it's only for emergencies, but as long as you're not playing with it instead of working, you can have it. There are room phones, which can be loud, but I don't think those were to what the OP is referring.

I'm sure that some kids wake up to noises, just like some adults do. It's called being a light sleeper. I'd like to wake your ass up with a bullhorn one day, though.

There was a research programme done here about 5 years ago into the effectiveness of household smoke alarms. What they found was that kids under 8 had extremely slow reaction times, and kids under 3 didn't wake up to the sound even though they had done fire drills and knew what the noise meant. They were looking at having a back up sound (their mother's voice calling out to them) to reduce the risk of young children dying in house fires.

Who called? It was probably one of the parents to make sure that their kids where getting their important nap time. In the future, always have your phone on vibrate because you never know of what people might think when they hear Hannah Montana as your ringtone.

My friend has a Hannah Montana ringtone. Whenever her cell goes off in the locker room, I practically piss my pants laughing at her. She doesn't seem to get why. I'll stick with my Final Fantasy Victory Fanfare, thank you.
