Some help you were

Today, I turned my phone off for the first time in three weeks to have a one-hour nap. I had kept it on because my next door neighbour has health problems and I offered to be an emergency call if he needed help. I was woken up by two ambulances arriving at his house. Turning on my phone, he'd left me 5 voicemails. FML

Literally the whole point of being an on-call emergency contact, dude. You had one job. One. Job. If it was other notifications that were responsible for disrupting your sleep (and, like, I get it, super infuriating when its a bunch of useless spam causing your phone to buzz) - There's a whole bunch of priority settings you can tinker with on pretty much every phone these days to adjust what would actually cause sound or vibration, so only really important things, like, say an emergency call from your neighbour, comes through. Without having to completely turn off your phone otherwise.

you're an idiot. was a1 hour nap worth him almost dying? why even bother being his emergency contact if you can't be reliable.

Why did you need to turn your phone off for a nap...? Also what kind of phone do you have that you wouldn't just throw it on silent or at least turn off notification volume.

Do you turn down your car radio, because you can't see while driving?

Why two ambulances? Is no one else concerned by this?

As an EMT, sometimes the first ambulance is BLS (basic life saving) and the neighbor may have needed an ALS (advanced life saving) usually paramedics instead of EMT’s, so that could be why more than 1 ambulance was needed

YDI since your nap with your phone could have killed someone. Being someone’s emergency call is basically a full time job and you need to be available for it
