Man or woman?

Today, I got the courage to ask my mom if I could go to the movies alone on my first date with my new boyfriend. She said ok, which was surprising because she never lets me go anywhere alone. When I got to the theatre with him I saw my mom. She had saved seats for us. FML

Awww...that sucks, I'm sorry. How old are you? Hopefully under, like, 14. And then it isn't such a super-bad FML. :(

#1 - On 03/20/2009 at 4:06am by Katylolo

woww that really sucks. :( Talk about awkward. I agree with #1, I hope you're no older than 14. Then it's not so awful, but still embarrassing.

#2 - On 03/20/2009 at 4:12am by McLaughlane

ouch...... what a burn..
hopefully your boyfriend understood!

#3 - On 03/20/2009 at 4:29am by lol_everyday

that is CLASSIC!
did you sit with her?

#4 - On 03/20/2009 at 5:02am by oooh_dear

that would be so embarrassing! i agree with #1 and #2 i hope your quite young, otherwise shes super over-protective of you

#5 - On 03/20/2009 at 5:06am by Hubblebubble

My mum didn't let me go on an actual "date" with my boyfriend until we'd been together for a year. I feel your pain.

#6 - On 03/20/2009 at 5:30am by thequeenofscots

I'm sorry. That really sucks. I agree with #s 1 and 2. Hopefully you're just young and you're mom is being protective. But still. That bites.

#7 - On 03/20/2009 at 6:07am by p1loter

and how old are you? I can only agree with the rest.

#8 - On 03/20/2009 at 6:27am by leyla

Wait... She KNEW where and when and to which movie you were going???

Dude, if she asks you that, sure thing is she'll be there.

#9 - On 03/20/2009 at 7:32am by LeChuck

This is why I always used to lie to my mother. Tell her you're going out with friends or something.

#10 - On 03/20/2009 at 7:53am by AeryFairy

cut the cord mom

#11 - On 03/20/2009 at 8:11am by you_suck

Technically she did let you go to the movies alone, she never said you could be at the movies alone. But yea, FYL

#12 - On 03/20/2009 at 8:29am by troynt

Sounds like the kind of mom who will make you wear a promise ring and take you and your friends out on your 21st birthday. Best to stop it now while you still can. Here's two websites that can help:
http://www.sexualityandu.ca/teens/tips-4.aspx
http://teenadvice.about.com/cs/parentstalkto/ht/parentstalkht.htm
I don't work for these websites or have stock in them or anything, they are the kinds of things that have helped me in the past. Seriously, talk with them as soon as possible. It's hard but you will be glad when you are 18 and not afraid to ask your mom if you can go on the pill because you want to be able to have sex without being afraid you're pregnant every morning after. Not to mention all the other problems over protective parents can cause. Don't be to harsh though, remember they do it because they love you, no matter how misguided they may seem.

#13 - On 03/20/2009 at 8:31am by starshine3987

This would be funnier if the OP was like 25.

#14 - On 03/20/2009 at 8:55am by davidtheday

I'm turn 19 next month and still find my mom following me when I take the bus sometimes. She also wants the names and phone numbers of anyone I spend time with as well as how I met them and their parents names (including people in University and living in res), so I feel for you. AND she only let me go out on my own a year ago when I turned 18, and even then it was "Yeah, I'm going to Guelph [city one hour away] for the weekend, I'll see you on Sunday" and just leaving

#15 - On 03/20/2009 at 9:32am by prb

Your boyfriend is a real catch if he's okay with it. At least he can get to know your mom! :)

#16 - On 03/20/2009 at 9:33am by mastercrammer

dude thats not cool. but i agree with #16 if he's cool with it, it;'ll be just a little less awkward for you

#17 - On 03/20/2009 at 9:46am by Livi1

sounds like my life...thank god i now live in res...whenever im with someone i shouldn't or doing somehting i shouldn't...yeah...mom calls...uh hey man...me? oh i'm studying...

#18 - On 03/20/2009 at 10:26am by madame_malfoy

That's hilarious!!!

#19 - On 03/20/2009 at 10:47am by xolotl

Hahahaha your mom is awesome
If you're going yourself, that either means you are old enough to drive or there's good public transportation where you are. If you're old enough to drive, she's being a bit overbearing but otherwise I can understand why she wouldn't want to let you out alone - it's for your safety and to protect you from your own naivete, which when you have kids of your own you will come to appreciate.

#20 - On 03/20/2009 at 10:59am by amirn86

i agree with 12 you need to be more accurate in your wording of the request because she did let you go to the movie alone, you never asked to see the movie alone

#21 - On 03/20/2009 at 11:01am by Chwis88

Stop with the bullshit 21. No one could possibly misunderstand what she meant when she said "go to the movies alone" unless they chose to.

#67 - On 02/27/2010 at 1:13pm by reyemrein

Your mom is a controlling liar. Even if you are 13 and not old enough to even have a boyfriend, it's not cool to lie to your kids!

#22 - On 03/20/2009 at 11:04am by kellster

Hahaha that sucks. Tell her off!

#23 - On 03/20/2009 at 11:49am by ijrnelson

What ever happened to good old fashioned bare-faced lying?

#24 - On 03/20/2009 at 11:54am by Endymion

Next time, tell her to go get you some popcorn.

#25 - On 03/20/2009 at 12:06pm by killface

if it makes you feel any better...i'm 18 and my parents just started letting me go on dates. D:

#26 - On 03/20/2009 at 12:09pm by MD3nt0n

dont worry about it. i had to move out because i couldnt be with my gf of 2 years and im 16. if your bf is ok with it, hes a keeper for sure...were still together and going strong.

keep your head up

#27 - On 03/20/2009 at 12:32pm by patty_gunner

ouch that sucks
and everyone who is telling her to lie, that could backfire if her mom is going to follow her everywhere she goes

#29 - On 03/20/2009 at 2:33pm by frozen_heart

lol you'll get through this. eventually, she'll learn that you're growing up and let you go. but it might be a while until you get to that point. it's not you that she doesnt trust, its probably the other guys out there that she's just trying to protect you from. she has your best interest in mind, even though it seems really annoying right now.

#30 - On 03/20/2009 at 2:40pm by shehzeenahmed

If you're thirteen or under, I can see why she would do that.

Otherwise... FYL.

#31 - On 03/20/2009 at 4:15pm by x3_LaLa_3x

Amen #10. Nothing wrong with a little white lie. But seriously, even if she's 13 that just sucks

#32 - On 03/20/2009 at 4:20pm by iamspartacus2

If this mother is so ridiculously protective how come that lil slut is already on boyfriend number 2?! You can't go to the movies alone, but you're free to have as many romantic relationships with boys as you like...... Makes sense right?

#33 - On 03/20/2009 at 4:24pm by CherryPieHole

I have a mom like that. You just have to lie next time. Say you're going to a girlfriend's house and she won't follow you.

#34 - On 03/20/2009 at 4:39pm by shauna

thats so sad. especially if you were 16 and older haha

#35 - On 03/20/2009 at 5:01pm by tateno

CREAPY!!!!! I WOULD DIE!!!!!

#36 - On 03/20/2009 at 6:13pm by Monty_Python

My mom was so overprotective, and I am a guy, so I feel your pain. She is just starting to let me live my own life since I am now 18. I am sure the OP's mom will chill out in the future like my mom did.

#37 - On 03/20/2009 at 6:59pm by KyleOkposofan

that sucks.. next time dont tell your mom what you're doing

#38 - On 03/20/2009 at 7:49pm by cnads

i couldn't date till i was 17!

#39 - On 03/20/2009 at 8:00pm by baby_love

You are probably a little young to be dating, or else your mother is insane.

#40 - On 03/20/2009 at 8:16pm by squeaky

Omg... If you were over age 16 this would be soooo funnny.

#41 - On 03/20/2009 at 8:31pm by heyitsmegxx

hahahah good point #12. parents and their loopholes...

#42 - On 03/20/2009 at 8:37pm by formosababie

wow, id die. Just pretend to kill yourself tommorow (take some pills out of the medicine cabinet, spill them over the floor b4 ur parents get up, and lie there in the bathroom until they find you). THAT will give you your revenge lol

#43 - On 03/20/2009 at 8:54pm by fishrfine75

HAHA. Classic.
And agreed, if you're over 16 that's just hilarious.

#44 - On 03/20/2009 at 8:56pm by ashleyy

Heh, that sucks, but hopefully you're still young. If you're over 18 though, then you need to say something to your mother or just start doing your own thing without telling her.
To an extent, sometimes parents never really leave you alone. I'm 20 and so long as I still live with my mother she's going to ask me where I'm going and who I'm going to be with and about when to expect me home.

#45 - On 03/20/2009 at 9:14pm by TheNameless

sounds like something my girlfriends dad would do. Except he would bring a castrating knife. Scary.

#46 - On 03/21/2009 at 1:11am by dabean100

Next time..
DON'T ASK.
just go and DO IT =D

#47 - On 03/21/2009 at 9:33am by f_r_E_a_K

yea, this one just sucks. i bet you wasted the 'opportunity' on a terrible movie, too. one only little kids would like.

like.... 'Hotel for Dogs.'

#48 - On 03/21/2009 at 4:57pm by TokyoSquid

wow, that's embarrasssing :(
my older brother STALKED me on my first date...most humiliating night of my life -_-

#49 - On 03/21/2009 at 11:43pm by linacool15

im sorryy !
my mom is just like that so i know it totally suckks

#50 - On 03/22/2009 at 3:56pm by feliciaxoxo94

you should have clarified alone

#51 - On 03/22/2009 at 5:06pm by firstnlast77

Wow.
Mom, thanks but uh no.

#52 - On 03/28/2009 at 3:35pm by Vehicle

ahw! thats F A C K E D .

#53 - On 03/30/2009 at 9:20pm by x_Leen

Lmao your mom is hilarious.

#54 - On 04/06/2009 at 2:24am by IAmBridgette

awe, well I hope you're not to old. If you are over 13 tell your mom that it's time she let you grow up a little and that you love her but she's gotta trust she raised you right.

#55 - On 05/02/2009 at 5:54pm by cheapshoes13

Ouch. That must have seemed like the longest movie EVER.

#56 - On 05/02/2009 at 9:03pm by CaptainDude86

If she's anything like my mom, she was probably there to make sure that you were actually going to be where you said you were going to be and at the time you said you would.

But look at it this way, since you were doing what you said you were, she'll know she can trust you and hopefully not be there at your next date!

: )

#57 - On 05/06/2009 at 6:47pm by AssOf2009

maybe you should talk to your mom about that over protective issue

#58 - On 05/08/2009 at 2:18am by belisama

you should just have walked out, and maybe she will take a hint next time.

#59 - On 05/24/2009 at 4:26pm by Everlost

That is so fucked up..

#60 - On 06/05/2009 at 11:50am by s52

Well at least u can go out with someone. My parents r asians that won't let me date. If I got caught I would get the shit beat out of me. But that sad to have that happen in front of ur NEW boyfriend. I would rather not date than let that happen to me too.

#61 - On 06/14/2009 at 6:06pm by AsianHere

Dude i feel your pain!
my mom and sister are soo over protective of me.
they also make me give them numbers and names of those who im hanging out with. ive never stept foot in a guys house..that they know of...
Also!! they wont let me sleep over at my dads house! cuz its my dad and 3 brothers that live there, thats it.

#62 - On 07/04/2009 at 3:54am by HPluver

I tried going to the moives with my gf once. She brought her mom and her sister. Then again I relized that this is the girl that broke up with me because I wanted to kiss her after going out with her for a year. I can't beloved she beat me to it.

Really sorry for you though. That really sucks when in it happens.

#63 - On 07/07/2009 at 8:04am by bigraws23

How old ARE you? If you're under the age of 15 GET OFF THE INTERNET AND GO STUDY OR SOMETHING!

#64 - On 10/26/2009 at 10:49am by Kat33393
