OP here. we didn't know my uncle that well he was one of the family members that dropped off the face of the earth. I came in at the wrong time when people were laughing so I thought he was doing an impression this is both a FML and a YDI

At a family reunion, there is quite often countless family members who you don't know or you aren't close to. This was probably the case here so you can't really blame them for not knowing.

You couldn't have known, but you could've been a lot more tactful about things, like by asking why his voice was like that, or avoiding the issue altogether and assuming something might have happened. That way you would've avoided a stroke of bad luck.
