Today, I gave my sister a stun gun for her birthday since she recently had a couple "close calls" walking home from work late at night. She was so excited and thankful that she wanted to express her gratitude by shocking me to see if it really worked. FML

How is allowing any civilian to own a deadly weapon after the most minimal of psychological tests better than restricting the use of said weapons?
Of course there is the oft-quoted statistic that a firearm kept in the home is 43 times more likely to kill a family member than an intruder.

and states that allow people to carry firearms have significantly lower crime rates! Criminals will buy guns regardless as to whether or not they are aloud, so the only people effected by banning guns are those who need to defend themselves!
and as far as restrictions... There ARE restrictions! If you have a felony, you cannot own a firearm! There is also a required wait time before you can purchase a firearm to hinder premeditated murder! They run a background on anybody trying to purchase a firearm!
Plus as far as "police over using tasers"... Preventing us from having them won't hinder that statistic at all, because they will still get to carry them!

Are you gun-friendly Americans truly insane? How does everyone having a gun make anyone safe? Here in Britain we have possibly the most tightly restricted gun-ownership laws in the world, and as a result we have very little gun crime, especially compared to the US. Nobody owns a gun, so nobody needs one to protect themselves. When I walk down the street, the idea that anyone I see might even own a gun, let alone have one on them, is preposterous.
How many more schools have to suffer massacres before you realise your gun laws are mad? You don't even need to outlaw guns, look at Australia! They used to have similar gun laws to the US, and they had some school shootings. They practically outlawed semi-automatic and automatic weapons, but didn't really change the laws on six-shooters and shotguns. As a result, they haven't had a school shooting since.
To me it sounds medieval, living in a world where everyone has a deadly weapon and you might have to empty your bank account if you get injured.
Get over it. It doesn't hurt for too long. We used to do it with a 750 Volt taser when we were drunk just for fun.

But that was really sweet of you to give that to her, however, most states you have to have a license to carry one of those (just like a gun) (At least where I live you do, because I was going to buy myself one before...they're about as expensive as most guns too)
The reasoning behind everyone being permitted to own/owning a gun is that criminals know how to get guns regardless of whether or not they are legal. When outlawed, criminals have the upper hand because law-abiding citizens do not have a weapon, while the criminals do. If everyone owned a gun, or could at least reasonably be expected to own a gun, it would be likely that, if a criminal was to pull a gun on an innocent person, that person would just as easily pull a gun on them in self-defense. Therefore, it would be quite stupid for someone to pull a gun on another person who would likely have a gun as well.

That sucks you should have had her find a drunk friend to try it on, I bought one for my girlfriends its 400,000 volts, and I have another one that is 1,000,000 volts be glad you didn't get a huge voltage one lol. And the restriction of stun guns varries by state, in Texas they aren't even considered a weapon by law (had a criminal attorney look it over before I bought it) Tasers are the ones that need a licence because of the fact that they have a projectile, and if anyone is going to get a pepper spray like device go to and Army Navy Store and get police strength mace (much more potent).
