Today, my boyfriend called and asked me why I love him. I told him because he's always there for me and continues to put up with my bipolar disorder. He promptly said "not anymore" and hung up. FML

Indeed, chronic depression is a unipolar disorder, bipolar is bipolar. Thus, they're contradictory. As I already posted. And I guess it got deleted or something.

mental health is not a game with simple rules. If a doctor diagnosed with the bf those two conditions, then that's probably the way it is.

bipolar doesnt mean youre depressed. it means that you alternate between extreme happiness and extreme depression, with no control over your emotions. also, you can change from one state to another in a matter of seconds.

@ 149: You are completely wrong. There is a HUGE difference between going through life's normal "ups and downs" and suffering from bipolar disorder. Without bipolar disorder, you can take life's ups and down and your emotions react accordingly. With bipolar disorder, your emotions completely control you and and may have very little to do with what is ACTUALLY going on. Try living with that, and then say it isn't real! @OP, I'm so sorry. My ex boyfriend did pretty much the same thing. He doesn't deserve you!

Bipolar disorder is a fluctuation of moods over a period (not in a matter if seconds) and is typically seasonal. Depression is when you fall into a deep state of sadness. Therefore you can can have both. Along with other diseases such as my father who has both of those diseases and anxiety disorder.

You are the true definition of an asshole. It's clearly a real thing and people with bipolar disorder can react much more extremely than the average person. There are both legitimate manic and depressive sides. You can even find brain scans to scientifically prove the difference between the brains of those with and without bipolar disorder. I myself have bipolar disorder (which hasn't been easy in the least) and am a psychology major. It is unarguably a real disorder. I don't wish it on anyone and the medicine, though helpful, is such an inconvenience. I wish I didn't need it, but I do. Everybody around me can confirm that as well.

How is that wrong or rude? Maybe he assumed that when the previous poster called OP "honey" he thought OP was a woman who'd been dumped by her bf, and therefore he pointed out that OP was a guy and not a girl, and therefore not straight. Plus OP's obviously not trying to hide that fact, or he wouldn't have listed his gender at all.
