umm... trying to "look cute in front of" someone does not necessarily mean she was all dolled up, but ACTING cute/ flirtatious/ enthusiastic etc... essentially trying to put her best foot forward not be all fake, just present her best self.
At least you have a sense of humor about it. If your able to laugh it off he'll think your a lot cooler than if you just freaked out.

Second, redbluegreen is right, for some reason i find cute slightly dorkish girls to be attarctive in a way, cause in a way it makes them seem more real, and less of "Im just a thousand times better than everyone else"
