So frustrating!

Today, I tried to have a fun night out. I met a guy and we went back to "his" place, which turned out to actually be his mother's house. He introduced me to her. Two hours later, I knew his life story and had to do the walk of shame without ever getting anywhere near his bedroom. FML

well, on the bright side, you didn't make it to 'his' bedroom.

A nice boy like that didn't give you a ride home? Chivalry is dead.

Can't tell if the Fml was towards not getting laid or everything else. If it was the latter, then who would want to do it with the mother in the house?

@14 I mean that imagine making it to the bedroom and *then* finding out that it was his mom's house.

Chivalry was killed the moment he decided to take a girl in his mamas house.

Feminism killed chivalry. Just because I'm capable of doing something on my own doesn't mean I don't enjoy my husband doing it for me. But he's actually had women snap at him for holding doors or helping carry things.

Chivalry is being nice to women because they're supposedly incapable of doing anything for themselves and are delicate little flowers. Manners, however, are pleasantries towards both genders and makes no such assumptions based on gender. Tell your husband to practice that instead.

#54 is right. There's nothing wrong with men holding doors open for women, that's just polite. There IS something wrong with men only holding doors for women and not for men. Likewise if a woman reaches the door first it would be polite for her to hold it for a person of whichever gender. It's fine for your husband to do things for you, #49, through being nice, not through being 'chivalrous'.

- #54, Who said chivalry was doing something nice for women because they are incapable of doing it themselves? Believe it or not, some people do things out of the goodness of their heart.

#59 ....because that's what the definition of chivalry IS? It means men being protective of women over other genders. If you mean somebody doing something out of the goodness of their heart, that's called being nice, or polite, or generous. It's not chivalry, which specifically refers to men being courteous ONLY to women, and those values come from a time when women were thought of as being incapable of doing things for themselves.

#54 The problem with the difference between chivalry and manners is that you don't actually know the reasoning behind the actions of your date, as it is possible they only do it for their date and that date is most of the time of the other gender. Also there are woman that bitch men out for not being chivalrous. Check the video 'Is Chivalry Dead?' from TYT university for instance, all those woman are openly DEMANDING (not asking) chivalry. That's a liberal, progressive Youtube-channel, I watch it a lot and totally did not expect such sexist behaviour. It's a bit hard as a men (I'm not a men, it just makes me confussed aswell) to know what behaviour won't make them seem like the biggest assholes. It's 'acting like they are little flowers' from your point of view and it's 'hoping to go on a second date and then knowing she does (or doesn't) appreciate this behaviour then' from their point of view. I don't think that her husband was trying to make those date's feel inadequete, I think he was trying to get a second date out of it.

#59 chivalry is defined as qualities idealised by knighthood such as courtesy and gallantry toward the weak, especially women. It was a word used during a time when women were believed incapable and weak hence the word is outdated. If someone is being kind out of the goodness of their heart, or because they are polite, or because they are in general a person with manners then it's not chivalry. There's no need to be chilvalrous when you can be mannerly towards both genders.

I believe you should act chivalrous towards women, but not because they are weaker, but because it is our job as men to look out for women (and men). if a man sees someone needs help he should help them. whether they look feeble or not. that's what I think chivalry should be. helping out your fellow man. Treating a woman like she is some fragile doll is unacceptable though. Women have fought for equality for years so they need to pull their own weight as well. You can't snap at a guy holding the door for you then get mad when he doesn't treat you like a princess. this comment wasn't aimed at anyone, just giving my opinion.

Not sure if that's an attempt at a deep philosophical statement, or just a terrible sentence.

Yet the best things in life are rarely planned.

Maybe you should be more careful of who you go home with...

Exactly. You know nothing about this guy. He could have an STD. Or could have been a murderer or rapist

One night stands never work to well. Maybe he had some sort of an STD.. You might have dodged a bullet op!

The guy definitely had an STD. He had mom-orrhea.
