(-2)washing your skin can make acne much worse.. especially with harsh products. Your skins just makes more oil faster to replace the ones lost through washing. It also can dry out your skin which delays healing.

(+5)I use a cheap face wash once a day in the shower and sometimes go to sleep with make-up on, and I have totally clear skin. My boyfriend has this fancy Neutrogena skin kit and takes better care of his skin than me but still gets acne. Its genetics.

(0)When acne is hormonal you can't do anything about it until it goes away, plus proactive is a load of shit that doesn't work. My friend borrowed some from her brother and she tried it for weeks, I kept telling her it was crap, but in the end all she ended up with was a skin rash. So stick you head up your ass and do your research. :)

(+5)The point of charicatures is NOT to emphasize your "flaws", but any part of your face and body that's especially distinguishing. I've done jobs before where I drew caricatures of people and trust me, unless you don't value your job you're not going to draw anything people will be particularly sensitive about. Big ears/nose/lips are one thing, but say giving someone a ton of pimples or making them look grotesquely obese is another thing. Basically most caricature artists will never do public drawings that poke at weight/acne/anything sexual/etc. unless they're drawing celebrities who will never talk to them anyway.
So unless the OP has a pretty disfigured face due to acne or is exaggerating how the artist drew her face, I'm surprised the artist did so.

(+1)Excellent comic! And for everyone saying, "use ProActiv" I hate to tell you, but ProActiv doesn't work on everyone... your skin has to react a certain way to it, and most people don't get results, but when they do, they are amazing.
Acne doesn't just go away, you have to wait, try different formulas (which can cost hundreds) of skincare products, wash regularly, not use certain kinds of makeup... Chances are this girl has done everything she can afford to get rid of her acne.
That really sucks that the artist drew you like that! Definitely not your fault.

(+2)I don't understand how it's her fault. Most people with acne have it not because they don't take proper care of their skin, but because too much bacteria is making them break out. Also, it's quite a different story to have someone exaggerate your teeth or ears and have someone exaggerate something already seen as socially unacceptable. Having a dominant facial feature emphasized is one thing. Having a skin problem commonly mocked in media and feared openly...that is one completely different story, simply because acne can make someone feel like shit. And something that made her feel like shit was emphasized.
But I'm very insecure about my facial features, which is why I would NEVER get a caricature.

(+2)I don't think that was the point. I think 54 was trying to say that sometimes people are insecure about other distinguishing body parts, but they're not all viewed as bad by the whole public. For example, the media doesn't go around convincing everyone that big noses are ugly. A big nose might actually look great on someone but not on another person. Acne on the other hand is just entirely attacked by the media, so nobody feels very comfortable with acne.

i do think people with acne suffer more (emotionally;because some people will automatically look at your face and not your eyes- and physically;mocking-or when people call them 'Pizza Face') than people with other physical flaws i.e. big nose, buck teeth, etc.
Washing your face isn't going to automatically make it go away. People without acne just don't get it... it's not something you can make go away in less than a day... acne takes years. Some people have it throughout their adulthood. (believe it or not Keira Knightley has it too.. hers is more mild)
I honestly think if you make fun of people with acne your extremely rude, I use to (I'm not going to lie) until i got acne i realized how hard + difficult it was...

(+1)caricatures are meant to emphasize something different or a flaw in your face. i got one done a few years ago and it emphasized me teeth. was i offended? no, because thats what caricatures are supposed to do. they make you look funny. so, if you're really sensitive about a particular facial feature, then dont get a caricature because it will probably be pointed out.
also, for all of u saying YDI and "u should use ur proactive", acne is not a result of not washing or taking care of your face. its a genetic thing, and some people are prone to get acne and others aren't.

(-1)I'm just so glad that my acne is on my forehead and under my hair, and not all over my face. My brother had a really bad case of acne, and he had a couple dermatologist appointments. It cleared out though now that he's older.
I'm sorry this happened to you OP, but like what most people said, that's what caricature artists do. You can take care of yourself, which would be good whether or not you were offended by the drawing to begin with.

Caricature drawings exaggerate a person's prominent feature. If your most prominent feature is your acne, then that's what the artist is going to exaggerate. If its your nose, that's what the focus will be. Look at ANY caricature and you'll see that the person's main feature is exaggerated. If you're afraid of laughing at yourself and maybe getting a flaw or two pointed out, then don't get your caricature draw. The end.
