Man or woman?

Today, I called my mom to tell her: "Mom, I finally got my period!" There was an awkward pause. She was at work. I was on speakerphone. FML

Why is this something to be excited about? You get to put a huge cloth up your vagina once a month. You don't that period in order for you to be a woman.

#1 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:07pm by trucanadian

lol pwnt. just bad luck I guess.

#102 - On 02/09/2010 at 12:20am by lolpwntdumass

At least you and your mom are close enough that you feel comfortable sharing that. Think of all the girls out there who don't have good relationships with their mothers, or don't even have mothers.

#2 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:09pm by Tammerz

yay for periods!

#3 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:15pm by marisaichiban

um? why is this on here. this isnt a FML, its a FHL. and its not even that big of a deal

#4 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:16pm by frdm

not getting your period can be a bad thing for many reasons. the fact that she said that she 'finally' got it probably means that it was late. having a late period can mess with your body's hormones and make you feel sick too sometimes. or it might mean that she thought she was pregnant, but her period came, meaning she wasn't pregnant. so that would definitely be something to be excited about. i don't know what her situation is personally, but those could be some options as to why she was happy to get it?

that sucks though that everyone heard...awkward.

#5 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:20pm by shehzeenahmed

"Today, I was at work and my daughter called and said 'Mom, I finnally got my period!' it was on speaker phone in my office full of co-workers. FML"

#6 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:21pm by dancin303

#5 I think she meant she got her period for the first time

#7 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:23pm by fantome

Well, I guess you're not pregnant after all! Woo hoo!

#8 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:34pm by Phillay632

I think she meant she got her period for her first time. For those of you who don't remember (or who are guys), girls are usually really excited to get their period. After a couple months though, they are left wondering why they ever wished for it in the first place. And it's completely normal to run to your mother to tell her when you do get it for the first time.

#9 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:38pm by adelaide_evening

Your mom's kind of dumb for putting you on speakerphone without telling you.

#10 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:40pm by may_cause_fail

#10, several office phones go to speaker phone automatically.

And getting your period for the first time is really a pretty exciting thing. A delayed period can cause health problems. Not to mention periods come with puberty, so she'll be experiencing other body changes as well to be excited about.

#11 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:45pm by lazysheelf

and body changes other people will get excited about.

#12 - On 03/27/2009 at 7:51pm by Dude

I wasn't excited, I was embarrassed as hell. I didn't tell my mom for months. xD

#13 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:00pm by pinkfrenchrose

I know for sure that it was an "I'm 11 and got my period," guys.

#15 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:12pm by lolololcheese

number 15 you don't know that for sure

#16 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:14pm by likewhoachea

Lol after 2 months you'll really be saying FML for ever being excited about it in the first place.

#17 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:20pm by loveme123

#9, that was exactly what happened to me. I got my period late, around 14/15, and I could not WAIT to get it. I wanted to be part of the sisterhood. And now, I cannot wait for menopause...
I totally understand why she would be excited. At least they were adults, and not other kids her age... now that would be really embarassing.

#18 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:20pm by esagalyn

Number 16, you don't know for sure that number 15 doesn't know for sure.

#19 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:25pm by helloimkittykat

If this is an I'm-not-pregnant period, then yay! But, if this is an, I-got-it-for-the-first-time, then what the hell is wrong with you? Periods suck.

#20 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:32pm by BamxBitch

Number 19, you don't know for sure that number 16 knows for sure about number 15 not knowing for sure..

#21 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:33pm by STFCBarsby

I don't get it... YOU'RE on speaker-phone... How does that affect your mom? Unless you mean SHE was on speaker-phone...

#22 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:34pm by takeyb0y2

LMAO @ number 19 and 21
hahaha

#23 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:43pm by live4summer

Hey, #21...you don't know for sure that number 19 doesn't know for sure that number 16 knows for sure that number 15 doesn't know for sure...

*sigh* that was confusing.

#24 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:46pm by thelovebugg

Well... congratulations? XD

#25 - On 03/27/2009 at 8:50pm by PJB4466

Ah, youth. I remember what it was like to get your first one and actually be happy. Now I dread the end of the month. Enjoy it while it lasts! Or... not.

#26 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:00pm by deliciouskaek

why is a child on fml?

#27 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:14pm by kinkysexx

I feel ya!
This is my second month with it...
I'm almost 17, LOL, so I understand your excitement.

#28 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:24pm by demonpossessed

Why are you all so surprised about her being excited? If most of her friends already had their periods, she was probably relieved to finally get hers as well. I did the exact same thing when I finally got mine.

#29 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:27pm by Jordyn_M_

Dude, that can't be as bad as mine. Mine started in fifth grade at school, when I didn't wear a pad or anything while wearing a skirt. It was all over my seat. My panties were ruined. It was horrible.

#30 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:30pm by imthatbad

congratz # 24 for killin it

#31 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:31pm by mfigga

#13- what'd you do for pads and tampons? XD

#32 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:33pm by imthatbad

im sure it was that she got it for the first time.
and guys she could be like 13 or something since she was getting her first period late - so shut the fuck up #27

#33 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:34pm by theoldGP

#24, you don't know for sure about #21 not knowing for sure that #19 doesn't know for sure that #16 knows for sure that #15 doesn't know for sure.

But, I know for sure that #15 doesn't know for sure because I AM #15 and I don't know for sure, I just felt like being a douche and I knew someone would come back at me like "you don't know that for sure."

#34 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:35pm by lolololcheese

XD

#97 - On 08/14/2009 at 12:54am by scarlett29

#33.....what's a 13 year old doing on fml?

#35 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:36pm by kinkysexx

Numbers 16, 19, 21, 24 and now 34 all remind me of that episode of Friends where Phoebe and Rachel are trying to screw with Chandler cause they found out about him and Monica. And everyone keeps saying "They don't know that we know they know we know." Anyone else?

#36 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:37pm by ajg_8

#36, Lol! I remember that.

#98 - On 11/04/2009 at 10:02am by Peppermints

Haha #34, I am number 24. I love you for starting all that. And yes, #36...GREAT episode of Friends. :)

#37 - On 03/27/2009 at 9:42pm by thelovebugg

#1, way to assume things. She never said she was excited. But yeah, I would have called my mom too if it had been my first time and I was alone.

Nonetheless, not really much of an FML.

#39 - On 03/27/2009 at 10:05pm by jet

Your mom's fault. Why would she answer a call from you over the speakerphone.. lames.

#40 - On 03/27/2009 at 10:13pm by beau05

that must of been awkward =p

#41 - On 03/27/2009 at 10:18pm by jayfx

well at least it wasnt "Today, I called my mom to tell her I havent gotten my period in 2 months and I think I'm pregnant. Awkward pause. Everyone at her work heard. FML."

#42 - On 03/27/2009 at 10:25pm by wowfmlife

lol congratulations... kinda.

i remember wanting to get my period really badly too. don't know why, there's nothing fun about it. xD but now you get to feel included as you complain about how much periods suck with all your other girlfriends!! whoo sisterhood!! ;D

#43 - On 03/27/2009 at 10:30pm by SelphieFairy

Great way to get the word out! =D

#44 - On 03/27/2009 at 10:34pm by braFTW

Period must suck, why get all excited?
You get angry at men, and you get bloody.

And well, that was a nice way to spread the good news to everyone.

#45 - On 03/27/2009 at 10:38pm by Frlf

hmm i never had any desire to get mine...but when i do get it nothing really happens..no cramps, mood swings, whatever

#46 - On 03/27/2009 at 10:53pm by wowfmlife

#45 not all women experience the symptoms of PMS but im not mad or anything. And to me periods really are nothing special. Really just there to me. Yet when i got my first one i called my mom at work too and the same thing happened and like 3 of her coworkers started clapping. So i feel the same embarassment.

#47 - On 03/27/2009 at 10:56pm by Ptvlover

these kids that get on here dont know anything about what really makes an f'd life

#48 - On 03/27/2009 at 10:58pm by sm33b

Uuggghhh I hate my period trust me ull b hating it verrrry soon

#49 - On 03/27/2009 at 11:01pm by Sokrgirl

Who calls their mother on the phone to announce when they have their period? Any women out there wanna explain?

#50 - On 03/27/2009 at 11:02pm by SVelasquez

thats gonna be an awkward bring ur daughter to work day xD

#51 - On 03/27/2009 at 11:04pm by ChrisFrancia

She doesn't even necessarily have to be thirteen (or 11) or whatever. You always have to start it with "Today", but it could've happened anytime. She could just be mentioning something from her past that was an "FML" moment, no matter how long ago it was.

#52 - On 03/27/2009 at 11:27pm by adelaide_evening

#50 i wouldnt tell my dad.

#53 - On 03/27/2009 at 11:32pm by Ptvlover

Congrats! Sucks that your mom put you on speakerphone, though!

#54 - On 03/27/2009 at 11:44pm by kellster

aw, did your period ruin your life already?
i got my in 6th grade, in the summer
and i was staying over at a friends house in virginia
for 1 week, i got it on the first day i got there,
my parents already left and went back to their state(not telling you which but it is 3 hours away)
the next 6 days were awkward, so it sucked
and when i got back my parents finally gave me "the talk"(both)
and you wanna know whats worse, i missed my best friend's pool party because of that, she was mad at me for a whole month!

#55 - On 03/27/2009 at 11:45pm by angeldo6695

Why would you be telling your mom that?

#56 - On 03/27/2009 at 11:51pm by KorbenDeck

#50 and 56, getting your period for the first time is a very personal thing. In my case, at least, I only felt comfortable telling my mother; but I was very close to her and when something bothered me I would let her know. I don't really know about anyone else, but that is how it was for me.

#57 - On 03/28/2009 at 12:02am by dnawt

Sucks that your mom put you on speakerphone, but really not that bad.

#58 - On 03/28/2009 at 12:12am by wat_the_eff

when I got mine my mom told EVERYONE we know... now THAT was embarrassing :(

#59 - On 03/28/2009 at 12:13am by Spiffy

#59: was she like,"my baby is finally a woman now!"?

yeahh...my mom told me about "IT" like a month before i got it...so i wasn't suprised,or excited.
Aunt flo ain't so baad! It's a beauutiful cycleee!!!XD

#60 - On 03/28/2009 at 12:21am by unibrowicorn

To OP: Congrats! Some friendly advice: I suggest using menstrual cups, they make your period much more enjoyable, are safter than tampons (no risk of TTS!), and help reduce cramps ^^ Plus, they get you much more in tune with your body :D

#61 - On 03/28/2009 at 1:34am by Taihen

You're way too young to be on this website.
Seriously.

#62 - On 03/28/2009 at 2:30am by Bunbu

I got mine in 5th grade when my brother was having a sleep over. I remember calling my mom into my bathroom because I didn't know what to do and she wouldn't come. So I started crying and had to announce in front of all his friends that I got my period. They then told everyone at school.

#63 - On 03/28/2009 at 2:32am by starbaby

I got mine when I was in 5th grade when my brother was having a sleep over party. I remember calling my mom into the bathroom and she would not come. I then started crying and had to announce in front of all of them why I needed her. They told everyone at school and made fun of me the rest of the night.

#64 - On 03/28/2009 at 2:34am by starbaby

I don't know anyone who's excited over a period unless they are hoping not to be pregnant and I wouldn't call my mom if that was the case.

#65 - On 03/28/2009 at 4:20am by sunshyne84

..Why would you be excited about bleeding every month? I was kind of pissed the day I got mine for the first time.

#66 - On 03/28/2009 at 8:03am by xOpheliacx

Hahah, at least you don't live with my mom. When I got my first period at 14, she cried, then called all of our family and family friends to share the 'happy developmental news!'

#67 - On 03/28/2009 at 10:39am by liveitlearnit

lmao congrats! it's not FML material though, i mean sorta akward that it was broadcasted throughout your mother's work place... but it's not like you're ever going to see these people and if they're females - hey they get their periods too!

#68 - On 03/28/2009 at 10:45am by lethalxrose

#62, she's probably only a couple years younger than you.

#69 - On 03/28/2009 at 11:10am by mogwae

I still wonder why this
has to happen to us chicas.

#70 - On 03/28/2009 at 11:27am by Vehicle

Hey, at least you're not pregnant :P

#71 - On 03/28/2009 at 12:55pm by pyro_metal

i was excited and called my dad at work when my balls dropped...

#72 - On 03/28/2009 at 2:36pm by effevery1slife

If this is your first period, wait a few months, you wont be as excited. If not, well, at least you're not pregnant.

#73 - On 03/28/2009 at 2:38pm by FuzzMonkey09

1.) why would you call your mom at work with this news instead of just waiting for her to get home?
2.) why would your mom answer on speakerphone before talking long enough to know the conversation was speakerable?
3.) @62: some girls don't get their period until they're 17 or even older, which is plenty old enough to be on this site. it's unlikely that the op was that old because a high schooler probably wouldn't call her mom at work to say she got her period, but don't jump to conclusions.

#74 - On 03/28/2009 at 5:03pm by shaPOW

this isn't an fml

and #70 its so we can have kids. DUH. what kind of question is that

#75 - On 03/28/2009 at 5:14pm by dcapp

This reminds me of a comic: http://www.hyperdeathbabies.com/anomaly/images/012-vaginal-blood.gif

#76 - On 03/28/2009 at 6:43pm by ClevelandRock

I can understand being excited if you're having health problems or not wanting to be pregnany but otherwise..not so much. I definitely wasn't excited, periods are gross.

#77 - On 03/28/2009 at 9:36pm by smbxsway

I've never understood women who are exited about having periods (and I mean past the first one - I've met some. Ugh.)

First of all its a waste of $. I don't want to know how much I've had to spend over the years on pads, tampons, heat pads and midol.

First time I got my period went okay. But by the time the second time it came around no one thought to tell me about cramps. I was on a field trip three hours away from home and had no idea what was going on. Pain was so bad I threw up. Then there was the time I got my period while taking the SAT.

#78 - On 03/29/2009 at 2:29am by greeneye

OMG this happened to me too! I called her at work and she was telling me where to find everything in her bathroom when I asked way she sounded so far away so told me I was on speakerphone. I feel for you!

#79 - On 03/29/2009 at 5:29am by monkeysauce90

that sucks. im gussing its your first time? idk i told my mom in a text though haha

#82 - On 03/29/2009 at 10:21am by JavaAnyone

Be more specific, were you getting your period for the first time, or were you afraid you were pregnant? And your mom was not thinking when she put you on speaker.

#83 - On 03/29/2009 at 1:19pm by Common_Sense

LMFAO. #12 is great. Bravo 'Dude'

Why would you ever be happy about that? Ever?!

#86 - On 03/29/2009 at 10:54pm by lolatflyingducks

haha wait until the cramps kick in sweetie
then you'll be saying FML for very different reasons

#87 - On 03/29/2009 at 11:22pm by newyorker33332

Why on earth would anyone use speakerphone at work? Unless her co-workers were intended to be part of the conversation.

#88 - On 03/30/2009 at 2:50am by swagmonkey

she's probably 10 times more ebbarrased than you

#89 - On 03/30/2009 at 5:16pm by mon_e_mons

Oh that is unfortunate but why be on speaker phone?

#90 - On 03/30/2009 at 10:23pm by sostupid

ugh,
trust me, not something to be happy about.

#91 - On 03/31/2009 at 5:53pm by jessxoxo28
