(0)People that smoke are disgusting anyway. Karma will do them in young
#1 - On 10/18/2009 at 7:04am by aero
(0)uhh how is smoking alone due to stress or whatever karma? you know the oldest person to live was a smoker, right?
(0)Three words for you.
Second hand smoke.

(0)Meant to edit this in.
It's bad for your health, it's bad for the health of others, and (as demonstrated in this case) it's bad for the environment. Most people just toss their butts off to the side and hope somebody else will take care of it. It's proven to be cancer causing and very unhealthy, one guy that lived a long time smoking doesn't make it good for everybody.
#15 - On 10/18/2009 at 8:21am by aero
(+1)So that one person that lived makes up for the millions that have died and are dying due to tobacco related products? Don't see that being a good argument lol
(0)While there's no hard statistics because the tobacco lobbyists and anti-tobacco lobbyists all skew their numbers, it's generally agreed upon that somewhere around 10% of smokers get the lung cancer we're promised. Yes, it's unhealthy, and yes, there are many other health risks, but that doesn't mean every smoker's gonna croak at 50.
Also, your "karma" theory is bullshit. Someone mildly annoys you with their cigarette stench and you think they deserve an early grave for that? Honestly, I don't see your supposed karma bringing you much good fortune after a statement like that.
(0)How did this one get through, it isn't that bad. I mean really this is just lame. I think you need to evaluate your life if this is the worst thing to EVER happen to you.
(+1)the op doesnt say this is the worst thing happened.. it certainly is wicked though. i mean come on, sb writes 'today michael jackson died. fml' and that one gets the highest positive votes. is that really the WORST thing happened to the OP? no.
(0)or he had a relatively good, or short life. want to know the worst thing that happened to me? i almost stubbed my toe once. :D
im lying. but you get my point.
(+1)how does that even happen?
(-2)Omgggg not a burn mark on your cheek! your life is horrible man
(0)First of all, ouch. Second of all, ew. This does suck...
(0)A burn on his cheek from something that he had no control over does suck! (I mean, it would be totally his fault if he had lit a cigarette and then had that burn his cheek.) But to be burned by something flying at you... that sucks! :(

(-4)Too many negative votes, comment buried. Show the comment.
5th!!!
(0)that is really rude... I don't know if the police would care, but in a hypothetical world, you can detect who did that.. if you keep the cigarette butt, there certainly is DNA on it from saliva. and you know exactly where it came from. with warrant and dna sample, that douchebag can be found..
ok as i said, the police probably wouldn't deal with such a small thing.. but in the future, that kind of stupidness might be very easy to detect. say you can buy a 'take-home' dna sequence detector, and everyone's dna is in the accessible system. tadaaa there is your bad guy!!
this is probably not that far.. ok yes, i work in genetics department :)
(-1)This is just ridiculous. Why would you go that far to punish someone who absentmindedly flicked their butt off their porch? It's not like we smokers have contests to see how many of you non-smokers we can burn. OP's smoker should have been more careful where he threw his cigarette, but honestly, what were the chances this would happen?
(0)Cigarettes cause fires too. Flicking a lit cigarette could have burned down the smoker's whole fucking apartment building. So I can see many people caring, especially since there have been huge wildfires in California (wildfires as in more than one) due to cigarette butts being carelessly tossed away. And accidentally causing a fire through negligently tossing a lit cigarette can result in being charged with arson, and manslaughter if there's a death caused by the fire. Plus you will be sued to help cover the extremely expensive cost of firefighting the blaze. They don't fuck around with this sort of thing, and neither should you.
(-1)the op doesnt say this is the worst thing happened.. it certainly is wicked though. i mean come on, 'sb writes today michael jackson died. fml' and that one gets the highest votes. is that really the WORST thing happened to the OP? no.
(+2)That sucks, FYL but it was better on your cheek then in your eyes, that would have been much more painful.

(0)I agree with number 1. Don't smoke...at all it's nasstyyyy. OP that sucks. I feel for ya.
(+1)most smokers are so rude. so tired of them throwing their butts out windows and not using the ash trays that are built into their cars or spending the dollar to buy one at the dollar store. its like the whole world is their ash tray. so rude. i just want to go to where they live and throw my junk all over their homes and see if that is ok.
#17 - On 10/18/2009 at 10:08am by mandacakes
(+1)Hahahahaha. That's a great idea. Just throw a bunch of soda cans and candy wrappers all over their yard.
(-1)you say most like you know MOST smokers in the world. get over yourselves. all of you.
just becuase i smoke doesnt mean im rude.
your ignorant.
(0)Tough luck
(+1)The chance of the butt falling vertically through your glasses and eye is practically 0% unless you wear your glasses at the bottom of your nose, in which case, its still really low. If I was you, I'd go buy a lottery ticket while you're still surrounded by 1 in a million odds
GO NOW!

(0)Once, I had a bird poop on me through a car window that was open only two inches - the car was moving.
#31 - On 10/18/2009 at 3:25pm by Mrs_H
(0)i once had someone throw part of an eraser at me and it went right between my glasses and eye and hit me on the side of my nose.
(0)Most normal people however wear their glasses closer to their eyebrow. The only time I can fit my finger between my forehead and glasses is when I point towards my face
The eraser was thrown towards you, and birds have amazing aim
#66 - On 10/19/2009 at 3:10pm by HoShiz
ahem.
MOST smokers are not rude, assholes. geez sit there and say how nasty smokers are and then say we are the rude ones! this guy on his balcony really should have used an ashtray, or a makeshift one, or at the very least LOOKED before flicking it, but it doesn't make us all inconsiderate assholes.
wanna know why we have to throw our butts out of a car? because they don't PUT ashtrays in new-ish cars anymore! guess us smokers don't need them?? And the way my car is it would probably be more hazardous to buy one that goes in the cup holders.
Most smokers I know, during any other time aside from in a car, use an ashtray if one is provided. and does it really kill you if some cigarettes are on the ground? no, not really.
And as for the health concerns... I would bet you have all been exposed to second hand smoke, probably before the laws started piling up on smoking. But I also bet you have breathed in smoke while lighting fireworks, or grilling/bbqing, or starting a bonfire. All of those things could cause cancer. In fact, just about everything is bad for your health.
whenever people talk down on smokers I always think of the south park episode "butt out" and the little song the workers sing :) "and who cares if I get cancer when I am 80 cause who in the hell wants to be 90 anyways" or something like that.
#20 - On 10/18/2009 at 12:10pm by KarasuFyre
(+1)If all cigarettes smelled like fireworks, bonfires, and grilled chicken I really wouldn't mind. But they don't. They're manufactured at some plant where they pour pieces of pavement into them. And it's not cancer at 80, it's a steady decrease in health until you die, starting at whatever age. But I'm not going to lecture you on that, because I'm pretty sure you either won't believe me or don't care. Yeah I'm around harmful smokes like that but you don't see me sticking my head in my chimney every few hours.
#22 - On 10/18/2009 at 12:34pm by aero
Oh my god! I am not talking about the fucking smell! I am talking about the harmful
chemicals you are breathing in by breathing in that smoke! Just because people don't run around crying about how harmful it is like they do with cigarettes doesn't mean it's safe. I live in a polluted city and breathing in the AIR (especially when inversion is really bad) will probably kill me. I understand the smell is bad, but I didn't even think that was the problem people had
with smokers. In that case fuck every person with bad b.o, or who doesn't know how to do laundry,
or eats something with a strong smell right next to me, you inconsiderate assholes, how dare you let me smell you!!(that last sentance don't take to seriously)
I probaby know better than you the health affects (effects, I dunno which is which??) of smoking. I know plenty of people who have smoked their whole lifes and are more or less ok. It's all chance and how well you take care of yourself in other ways. If I quit smoking right now it would be something like 5 or 10 years before my risk of some major health diseases went down a small
percentage. None of you are concerned with the smokers health though, you only care about how that little trail of smoke is gonna kill you with cancer in a few short years. If I could roll my eyes, I would be.
#23 - On 10/18/2009 at 12:52pm by KarasuFyre
(0)When aero said the part about pouring bits of pavement into the cigarettes, I laughed because not only is there tar in them, but about a million other harmful chemicals. Barbecues and fireworks don't have nearly that many. The only chemical in the barbecue is the propane, and the wick from fireworks is nothing. The only other major chemical is magnesium which you burn in grade 10 and 11 science rooms. So it isn't just the smell, it's the other million chemicals present in cigarettes that bugs non-smokers.
As for you saying we don't care about a smoker's health, that's because /you/ chose to smoke and agreed to all the risks. We didn't, so we shouldn't have to suffer
#25 - On 10/18/2009 at 1:55pm by HoShiz
(+1)Second hand smoke pisses me off because I can't breathe when it's in the air and it smells like shit, I'm not concerned about what adverse health effects I would get from small amounts of second hand smoke (because there pretty much are none from brief encounters). When I'm talking about health issues I'm more referring to you and other smokers who deny that it will have much of an effect.
And you're right, I don't give a shit about the health of smokers (regarding problems created by their.. habit) because that's what they chose for themselves. I care about their lack of proper judgement in choosing to do so, even after all of the problems caused by it over the years, all of the medical data and people dying from cancer. I mean, the freaking label on the things basically state "Extended use of this product will most likely eventually cause your death". It's LABELLED hazardous.

(0)Why do so many people nothing better to do than type long ass comments on FML? It's sad really...
(0)I'm at work and getting paid to rant about stuff =)
#36 - On 10/18/2009 at 3:54pm by aero
(0)That's even sadder.
Maybe you should do something useful with your time?
(0)I study, read fml, and make sure the building doesn't burn down. What more do you want from me?
#41 - On 10/18/2009 at 5:14pm by aero
(0)yes, if someONE throws a butt its not bad but when i am at a stop light and see about 100 butts everywhere i go, thats bad. like i said, if all us nonsmokers go to your city and just start throwing our trash all over you and your city you might change your mind and use an ashtray ALL the time. if u want to kill yourself with cancer go ahead, just use an ashtray while doing it so i dont have to get hit by your cancer sticks or have you litter my town
#21 - On 10/18/2009 at 12:19pm by mandacakes
Hahahahahahaha...ha
please please come trash my city some more. :)
you are paying way to much attention to the road (literally) while driving if you notice hundreds o cigarette butts. Does your town not have street sweepers? Cause I don't see a lot of cigarettes on the road here at any given moment. And how is throwing trash all over "you and your city" the same thing? Am I maliciously tossing my cigarettes at you? Nope. And did you miss the paragraph that says cars don't have ashtrays anymore? If you are so concerned about it go complain to the car companies.
#24 - On 10/18/2009 at 1:00pm by KarasuFyre
(0)Ever thought about that there maybe is a reason why they don't have ashtrays in cars any more? My city has street sweepers. You can tell by all the cigarettes lying by the edge of the sidewalks. There is no excuse for you smokers to throw your cigarettes wherever you feel like.
(0)Â ha i would rather live till 50 then 80
(0)Damn! Nice shot!
(0)Um, you know you can seek compensation for that, right? You won't get anything on an assault and battery, but the person who did that can face several misdemeanor charges at the very least, not to mention the money you can get from said person scarring you.
You all completely missed the point. Compare the effects of THAT smoke to SECOND HAND SMOKE (not inhaling it from the cigarette directly). Of course it's not AS bad, but because it's not something that's "wrong" to do we don't sit around and bitch about breathing it in. If lighting fireworks were taboo, we would be all over how harmful that shit is, and could potentially be. We breathe in shit that is not good for us all the time, ALL THE TIME. I really doubt that small amount of second hand smoke you are forced to breathe in once in awhile is gonna be the thing that kills you.
I KNOW you don't care about a smoker's health. Aero was trying to lecture me about my own health, when none of you could give a shit. You're both dumb for thinking I meant it like "oh my god you don't even CARE what I am doing to myself by smoking all these harmful chemicals wahhhh". I am not like most people seem to be on here, I can take responsibility for my own actions.
No one fucking forces you to stand next to someone smoking, or be in an enclosed space with them. You are JUST as capable of moving to another area where it won't bother you as they are. Yes, in reality the smoker should be kind enough to stay away from the non-smokers, but sadly we are not all like that. But in most places now you cannot smoke inside, or even within a certain amount of feet from an entrance. There are plenty of places who designate smoking areas as well. They are also trying to make smoking in cars, and smoking in any public place illegal as well. I don't get the logic: Those assholes are over there smoking, but I am gonna stand here and endure it anyways so I have something to bitch about, rather than take a minute to walk a couple feet away.
Aero: You seem to contradict yourself. In the same paragraph you say second hand smoke has almost no health effects in a brief encounter, and then say when you talk about health issues your referring to me and other smokers who deny it will have much of an effect. For one I know the health effects of smoking, as I said before I probably know more than you do, seeing as how I am a smoker. But you are basically saying we deny the effects, while you are denying it yourself.
There are BILLIONS of things in this world that cause cancer, and billions more that cause diseases, and we expose ourselves to them every day. Just because something has yet to proven to be harmful, doesn't mean it isn't (remember not too long ago when second hand smoke wasn't so bad?). It's not that I deny the health effects, it's just I don't believe out of all the billions of the ways to die, and the things that can kill you, that the small amount of second hand smoke you breathe in (that is if you are one of the ones smart enough to MOVE AWAY FROM THE SMOKE) is gonna be the thing to kill you. It's not MY job to protect YOUR health, by keeping my distance from you and your pristine lungs.
EDIT: HOLY MOTHER F..that was long :) sorry I just get passionate. And this was supposed to be a reply but I forgot to go back up and hit the reply button :(
#30 - On 10/18/2009 at 3:09pm by KarasuFyre
(+1)Yeah, well I have to live with a smoker, and the doctor said it's messing up my respiratory system. So you're incorrect in your statement that we could simply move a couple of feet away--most of the time I'm holed up in my room when I'm at home. Also, we should be able to stand where we want without dealing with smokers. And if your car is that hazardous, then maybe you should get it fixed, then you don't have to litter all over the place. Kthxbai. Smoke in your homes if you want to smoke. If you don't like the smell or whatever, then you shouldn't be smoking. Don't force others to deal with it when it can mess with their health.
(0)Again, when I was talking about the health effects I was referring to people that smoke. Brief second hand smoke won't hurt you but it's really inconsiderate to smoke near non-smokers, it's like me shitting myself and sitting next to you on a bus. Also I'm not saying that second hand smoke will kill you, but smoking itself will kill you. You seem to be justifying your smoking habit by saying that there are so many things out there that will kill you -- but why risk it? If you know so much more about the effects of it than me, I fail to understand why you still do it. I've been to a morgue and seen first hand comparisons of smoker lungs and non smoker lungs. The difference is insane, you should look up some pictures.
It's also not just the smoke itself. I'm a college student and I hold a full time job as a security guard. My co-workers and employees of the company I'm contracted to all smoke in and around the guard shack. They don't do it when I'm here (yes, I'm "working" now), but the shack and the area around it constantly smells like tobacco. I have the windows and door open but still, the smell gets on my clothes and myself, and transfers to my car and my house. Which, by the way, no longer smells like new car (few months old), but like cigarettes. I don't even smoke and I have to deal with that vile and disgusting smell every day.
I'm not quite sure what I'm arguing about anymore, this has pretty much turned into e-ranting on both sides of the fence. But I still don't understand why people smoke, I don't buy into the whole stress argument. All of the people that I know that smoke have short tempers and not particularly difficult lives. It's nasty and it's not good for anybody ('cept the guys selling them).

#35 - On 10/18/2009 at 3:52pm by aero
(0)Seriously? You people must live in fucking Stepford, because everywhere I go, smokers are disrespectful. My campus recently banned smoking after you exit the parking lot, but kids still do it and I need to breathe that crap EVERY DAY. Oh, and WHY did they feel the need to ban it all of a sudden? Because there was a minimum of 25 feet required for smokers to respect from the side of buildings because of the vents that drag their smoke into classrooms, but they didn't care and leaned against the sides of the buildings. So, perhaps you're older or something and your consideration for the welfare of others is fully developed, but 16-25 year olds make up just as much of the population as your age group, and they're mostly rebellious little assholes who think they can do whatever they want because it only affects them. I get that you make that decision for yourself, but it's completely unacceptable for the poor decisions of certain individuals to NEGATIVELY affect others' lives. And, in regard to any rebuttal you may have, nonsmokers movement to end smoking, would only positively affect you, so don't even bother saying I'm being hypocritical.

(0)THink of it this way- there is no way that that can ever happen again. Because seriously, that could never happen twice
#38 - On 10/18/2009 at 4:31pm by alwaysalady
(0)Well, smokers are selfish. I do my part by road-raging against any fuckers who throw their cigarette butts or ashes out their car window near mine.
Now, if someone were to actually HIT ME with one (like in OP's case), they'd probably get something large and spiky wedged up their bum.
As it is, most smokers litter and they ALL pollute.
Those of us who want clean lungs don't appreciate this (call me a hypocrite for adding pollution by driving, but smoking is unnecessary).
My aunts and uncles smoke, and I want to kick their ass every time they bring their disgusting cancersticks over to our house.
(0)You realize driving isn't necessary either, right? I'm a smoker and I pollute the environment in my own way, but I don't own a car and get around just fine by bike or bus. I live off campus at my University and still make it to class early everyday.
(0)Actually, some of us don't have public transportation in our towns, so driving IS necessary. Kthx.
Whenever I find out that someone smokes, I automatically lose any and all shred of respect I had for them before I knew.
(0)Why? Because of one poor choice? That's terrible.
And you only addressed buses. What about bikes? Does your town not have those either?
(0)It's not just a poor choice, it's fucking selfish and thoughtless, and I don't want to be around someone who smokes.
I don't know about you, but I don't work in my own town, as there isn't much choice of employment here. So I'm not going to bike to work for an hour and arrive sweaty and out of breath. So kindly keep your sarcasm to yourself, thanks.
(0)Awesome, you're in the minority. You're still a terrible person.
(0)hahaha wow what are the odds of the cigarette landing RIGHT there. that sucks =/
(0)smoking is so cool. I'm even cooler than most smokers because I have really bad asthma lol come on people let's chill here
(0)#46 - You're stupid for thinking smoking is cool, at least you have a short life span than me, so stfu
(0)That guy was a jackass. If I have to toss a butt somewhere (there aren't ashtrays everywhere, y'know), I make damn sure it goes somewhere where it won't catch on anything.
Oh, and for all you anti-smoking crusaders, I have a word of advice. You're entitled to your opinions and most of us will respect that, but just be careful if you ever try to impose those opinions on others. You might catch the wrong smoker on the wrong day and get a cigarette put out in your eye or something.
(0)Thanks for taking the time to post this on FML . Now get yourself to an emergency room STAT!
(0)Yur lucky it didn't burn yur eye. Right?
(0)This is a perfect opportunity for you to kick some ass. Enjoy it.
(0)I really don't think the cigarette would fall perfectly inbetween your glasses, fake
(0)Gah, tahts disgraceful.
Whoever did that was a pig.
(0)Next time they are up there, fire a flare gun. That will spark some interesting reactions. Picture it with me. Some douche bag smoking, and jacking off when a flare suddenly rams knee high up his asshole. Followed by a few strong words, he falls and hits his head on a nail. Unfortunatly this isn't GTA IV so shit like that doesn't happen.
(0)I call fake! A falling cigarette wouldn't leave a burn mark, it would graze you as it fell, and feel no worse than a bee sting or similar. To leave a burn you really have to twist it in
(0)wtf no i barely grazed my mums cigarette and it burnt me bad. maybe u should test that theory first.
(0)nasty smokers have no respect for the places they throw their butts. those butts have a half life of 892 years.
(0)Yea shon shmokin a shtoge u got a shtoge shon yeaaaaa
(0)Yeaaaa shon shmokin daddys shtoges shon wordddd
(0)It's not that you can choose not to stand near someone who smokes. No matter where you go, people are smoking. When you get off a train you have to walk through a smoke-cloud because you smokers "have to" light a cigarette as soon as you get out. It's us none-smokers who are suffering because it's not our choice.
(0)well, im sure he didnt mean it, therefore u must take vengeance, throw all the cigarrette butts u can, to his balcony, lets see how he likes it.

(0)"OMG I hate the smell of McDonalds. it's bad for you so why would you eat it? Since I don't like it, no one should be allowed eat it. let's take away people's right to choose what they want to their own body cause I think it's gross"
that's the same argument anti-smokers make. sounds pretty selfish to me
(0)hey redbaron, guess what?
do OTHER people get effected from people eating maccas near them?
NOPE.
do OTHER people get effected from people smoking near them?
YEP.
your arguement is a fail.
(0)LMAO, right between the eyes.
