Today, working as a nurse, I saw a patient in for follow-up after a partial leg amputation. I checked her blood pressure and gave her the reading, which prompted her husband to ask what it meant. She replied, "I'm alive." Before I could stop myself, "And kicking" spilled out of my mouth. FML

If she didn't laugh shes got no sense of humor. You can still kick with one leg or part of a leg.

More like F that poor lady's L. As for you - YDI.

Lol I've worked in health care and blurted out MANY things I shouldn't of

gota love those instant facepalm moments

Wow, you stuck her foot in your mouth...

It was definitely an awkward moment but it was a simple mistake op. Next time just try to think before you speak.

Oops lol. I'd have followed it up by saying that she reminded me of the song by Simple Minds.

OP's just gotta learn to take it in strides..

Oh, come ON, that was funny! Relevant, timed perfectly, and ironic. If your patient was being sarcastic to her husband, even if it was good-natured, you had every right to make that joke. Screw professionalism; that joke was gold. PLEASE tell me they laughed!

I laughed as well. But I'm sure OP is kicking herself for her remark, even if she meant no harm. Hopefully the patient and her husband have a sense of humor.
