Judge not lest you be judged, my friend

By Anonymous - This FML is from back in 2009 but it's good stuff - United States

Today, I was riding my bike and stopped at a street light. A little girl looked at me, then asked her mother, "Mommy, why does that girl have a ring through her nose?" Her mother then replied, "Because her parents don't love her." FML

I would just like to say that have piercings/tattoos or whatever is a PERSONAL choice...if you don't like it, then tough luck you can't DO anything about it. Its that person's body and if they wish to modify it somehow with metal or ink let them...its not your problem. Some people consider it an art and some consider it a violation of the body as a "temple", whatever your beliefs you should be grown up enough to identify the fact that not everyone has the same beliefs as you and be respectful enough to not brow-beat someone because they don't believe the same things as you. In the end everyone will do what they want regardless of what you say here on FML.

Geez. It's natural for kids to ask questions about things like that. The parents should not fill their heads with such judgmental things. I once had a little girl ask me why I had a "thing" in my eyebrow, and her mother simply told her it was like an earring, but in a different place. I still remember thinking what an awesome mom that was, and how more people should behave like that!

164, your an idiot. i am completely comfortable with myself and my body, which is why im not afraid to get modifications. i do it cause i like it. and my mother LOVES me, btw. your just jealous because you probably failed art class due to lack of creativity

#165-Please define art for us all since you're so damn cultured and knowledgable that you have the right to define such an abstract concept as art to all of us poor slums whose mothers don't love them.

** 165, i meant. for some reason the comment numbers changed.

170, im a painter. and yes, with oils, on canvas. traditional enough for ya? sorry the world moves on and new art forms come out, yknow sometime art evolved from cave paintings to oil paintings, to japanese scrolls... etc etc. even to andy warhol, who not everyone likes but at least respects. as for the highschool dropout comment.. i graduated high school, early, and am going to college in the fall to be a mental health therapist. 6 years. i bet when you actually do go to college youll just spend all your time partying and ******* up. i am not crying out for attention even one bit, who would i be crying out to? i have loving parents, a loving boyfriend, good friends, basically a picture perfect life and i wouldnt wish for anything else. so what if i enjoy piercings? BIG, *******, DEAL. doesnt make me stupid, doesnt make me a fuckup, doesnt make me a dropout, doesnt make me rebellious, doesnt make me tough, its just me with a few pieces of metal through my skin. im sorry your parents brought you up to think anything new is wrong, but hey, the world is everchanging. i wouldnt call piercing an art, but tattoos, definately. have you heard of sailor jerry? ed hardy? amazing shit. and all done with a completely different medium than what people are used to. art isnt just greek statues, although that is amazing. i love picasso and van gogh, and even named my dog after monet. and you know whats so great about them? no one got it when they were alive. everyone thought they were crazy, and that their art was utter crap. but now, they are the most well known artists alive. georgia o'keefe? hated for her representation of female sexuality during her time. now? respected as all hell. do you get it yet?

** "greatest artists alive" totally worded that wrong, should have worded it "greatest artists known"

And just a btw #170, I've been to art museums all over the country, I've studied art, drama, and music for over 10 years. Art is an expression with meaning that appeals to different people who hold it in different points of view...something doesn't have to be aesthetic to be art, and aesthetic is such a loose term that can have so many meanings based on the societal ideal of the time that it is next to meaningless (for example today skinny women are considered sexy whereas in the 1950's Marilyn Monroe was a sex icon who was a heavier set woman). You've obviously missed a few art lessons if you're so critical without support to people's art and ways of expressing themselves. Art is a form of expression (body art included) end of story.
