It depends how the marriage ended. If you were a douche and cheated on her and/or left her for someone else then you deserved it. My ex-in-laws would rather have me over than my ex-wife (their daughter) since she cheated on me and left me to raise our daughter by myself.

I've been in the exact same situation and I can tell you, it really is awkward. Especially when you have your hand in wrist deep while stuffing the turkey, and you catch your ex's eye.
