Today, for what seems like the thousandth time, one of my new friends has cut me out of their life after I told them my last name. It’s hyphenated and I’m a woman, which means I'm “automatically” a stuck-up bitch. I'm not married, I was born with this last name. FML

Today, I was talking to a new friend when I told him my last name. It’s hyphenated. He then left and declared me to be a "stuck-up bitch" who thinks she’s "too good to take a man’s last name." This is the name I was born with. FML
Today, I told my family that I wanted to change my last name to my future wife's. We want to have the same last name, and we chose hers because she is an only child, while I have three brothers. Half of my family is laughing and calling me "pussy whipped" while the other half won't speak to me. FML
Today, my father-in-law decided to disown myself and his son, because my husband decided to hyphenate his last name. FML
Today, I’m getting married. My friends are all telling me that I’m not a “true feminist” since I’ve opted to change my last name to his. My last name is “Belcher.” FML
Today, during a phone call, I broke down in tears because I was asked to spell my last name. It’s sixteen letters long and hyphenated, and I always end up having to spell it twice because they never get it right the first time. I’m tired. FML
Today, once again, I told a guy who’s been hounding me for ages that I’m not interested. After being asked repeatedly and turning him down politely for so long, I finally snapped and cussed his ass out. Now I’m known as "the bitch" for hurting such a "nice guy's" feelings. I need new friends. FML
Today, my boyfriend asked me to marry him, saying that the only thing he would change about me is my last name. I later told him that I wanted to keep my last name after the marriage. I'm now single again. FML
Today, I went out with my friend and her boyfriend. Not knowing him very well, I accidentally called him by her ex’s name. He took that as a sign she was still seeing the ex and dumped her on the spot. She’s now not speaking to me for ruining her life. I’m just bad with names. FML
Today, I got married. After the ceremony, my sister asked to talk to me. I followed her and she told me that we are no longer related because we don't have the same last name anymore. FML
Today, my boyfriend said that he doesn't have to marry me because we coincidentally have the same last name. FML

I've never heard of that stereotype, are you sure that is not because you're either coming across that way, or you really are stuck up? if it was one person, then maybe. but a whole bunch of them? find a disinterested person and ask them to critique your personality/ attitude and work from there. if you don't want to be that person, get some help to work on yourself. if you feel there is nothing wrong with you, then maybe the real housewives can accept you into their friend club.

I've never heard of that stereotype, are you sure that is not because you're either coming across that way, or you really are stuck up? if it was one person, then maybe. but a whole bunch of them? find a disinterested person and ask them to critique your personality/ attitude and work from there. if you don't want to be that person, get some help to work on yourself. if you feel there is nothing wrong with you, then maybe the real housewives can accept you into their friend club.

Good idea, with two caveats. 1) You need to choose a person from a nation with lots of hyphenated last names. Try Quebec. 2) To avoid any prejudice caused by your real name, use a nice-sounding fake name when meeting the person. Think Gloria Connor, not Karen McBitch.

If that's the case, then they are super shallow and you're probably better off not having them as friends anyway. As others suggested, it's a good idea to get an impartial 3rd party to assess, just to confirm that is the case, if you haven't already.

In social situations, just tell people one of the parts of your last name. Save the full name for formal settings or legal forms. Good luck, Miss Dahmer-Hitler.
