You little shit
Today, one of my students tried to bribe me $200 to change his grade. When I said no and told him he was lucky I didn't report him, he went to the dean and told him I offered to change his grade for money. I'm now suspended and under investigation. FML

Next time, don't warn them, just report it.

At least he didn't ask for more than a grade change for that $200.

Sounds like someone should have went to the Dean first

exactly. when stuff like this happen, you need to report it right away, both in person and by email. this gives you an important timeline and evidence in case someone tries to take advantage

#41 you are so right. An email and a phone call will get there faster then their legs will.

the Dean should trust their professors. but then again you not reporting them when it first happened is a moral downfall on your part. that just looks sketchy. No student deserves to still be enrolled in a university if they cheat.

There may not be a next time though

That's awful, I'm really sorry, OP. I hope they find out he lied and suspend his ass.

Suspend him? Hopefully they send him to a continuation school. What the hell is going on with kids these days?

#94 considering he went to a dean, this is probably a college and the "kid" is actually an adult and can be legally prosecuted if he gets caught for this.

You should have reported him right away, rather than let him off with a warning.
cari_cat 19
Yeah, well that's easy to say now. I would say OP giving the student a chance shows he's a good teacher and has the student's best interests in mind. How was he supposed to know this would happen?

Unfortunately these systems of reporting incidents are there to protect as much as they are to punish. Your boss can't protect you from something like this if they weren't aware of the situation, which is why you HAVE to report these things. A student who is dishonest enough to try to bribe a teacher shouldn't be let off with a warning, it may seem harsh but it's fair. They break the rules, they get punished. As it is, they break the rules, OP tried to be lenient, and now might lose his job. It's just not worth it.
Brandi_Faith 34
Although I agree with what you're saying 21. I understand wanting to give the kid another chance. I also don't think op can lose his job because once they start an investigation they'll realize that there's nothing there and no proof of the incident. I'm sorry you're getting screwed for a good deed op! It sucks you got in trouble and I hope nothing comes from this investigation.

It takes at least $500, right?
JustinJK 21
I'm ashamed to say I paid a prof 500 to change my C- to B+. Had to have a B or higher to pass the class. :/.

Justin Beaver is that you?

Did it work?
JustinJK 21
Yeah it did. Adjunct professors are treated horribly and underpaid. :/

ouch OP! sucks giving little brats a break for doing wrong then they bite you in the ass!

So, the Dean doesn't want to hear your side!? Lousy job s/he is doing. Students aren't customers who are always right. *sigh*
Idahome 6
that's exactly what I was going to say!
RedPillSucks 33
I'm sure that will happen during the investigation
russfml 31
I know eh. Trusting a student over a prof like that is unreasonable. A dean with common sense would hear both sides out at least
EarlFug 19
I deal with post-secondary institutions as part of my work. Unfortunately these days, students are very much the customer.
MrConcise 35
It's also unfair to the student to take accusations lightly. Teachers and professors are in positions with lots of unregulated power since they're trusted to act appropriately without supervision. I say it's only fair that this warrants an investigation.
MandieL 27
I agree with 97, that would be like a female student, who was mistreated, reporting an incident and it going completely ignored because they trust their profs. Any serious incident should be treated as such no matter which side the complaint comes from. It sucks for OP but it does warrant an investigation. Hopefully it turns up the truth about what the student did.

Fail him.
MzZombicidal 36
He can't fail him while he's suspended.
chinaski7628 32
And if OP did fail him, the student could claim OP was retaliating against him, which really would not help OP.
RickySleeves 20
It was just a joke
Merylwen 24
There is no such thing as a joke on the internet. Everything you say can and will be held against you.

I think he's doing that on his own..

What a punk. All it takes is for someone to cry wolf and a good person's record is tarnished forever. If it were me I'd go the whole nine and wreck my record by wrecking his ass; **** that dude.
fakedsincerity 32
No good deed goes unpunished. ): Hopefully if they see there are no other allegations they'll take your word over his. Good luck, OP.
