Why indeed
Today, I went through my boyfriend’s phone. He'd told his brothers, mom, and mutual friends that I was at a psych ward, after I went crazy. We have been back together for four months now after that situation, so no wonder I got the vibe they hate me. Why lie about something so stupid? FML

OP, it sounds like you are saying you actually did have a mental breakdown requiring staying in a psych ward. That's not your fault, but looking at from boyfriend's family's perspective - Are you likely to have another serious episode? That's got to be on their minds and they probably want to protect your boyfriend from the consequences of that... OP, I am not saying BF's family are right in their reaction or that BF was right to spill the truth about your condition. I am just trying to get you to see this from a different perspective so you can understand where this is coming from and how to deal with it... Mental health is a serious subject and there are a lot of stigmas around that subject. You can either try to communicate and reassure people or keep it a secret. Unfortunately "secret" doesn't really help much in the end and that bus has already left the station... My own grandmother was institutionalized for schizophrenia (delusions) a couple of times. She told me of the conditions there which were horrifying to me as a child. I visited her when I was in college when she was re-institutionalized for a while and introduced her to my fiance.

A good way to disprove this is by going through his phone. Not crazy at all.
