Well played
Today, after spending 6 months and $15,000 on lawyer fees at my 13 year-old son's request, his abusive, alcoholic father no longer has any legal right to see him. How did my son repay me? He ran away to live with his father the very first time I told him he couldn't have friends sleep over. FML

If he were younger, I could understand...but 13? Really? What an ungrateful child...

You'd be surprised what some kids understand, 67. In fact, most kids I know understand what alcoholism is and they can spell it, too.

Even if he doesn't understand what that is, he clearly understood the abuse. The child new what the problem was enough to say he didn't want to be around the dad anymore...I'm sure he understands alot more than most kids should.

I'm 13 to and I've known what alcoholism was for a while. So I don't understand how he can't know.

thumbs up 64. dear OP, it sounds like your son doesn't respect your authority. some consistent rules / discipline might help. p.s. it might be too late at 13...good luck

Don't worry, he'll be back before you know it. In the meantime, be sure to share embarrassing photos & stories of him with his friends. When he comes back, you can all laugh at him & remind him that not only is he an ungrateful asshole; but a loser too. (Sounds like he needs some tough love.)

That seems a little harsh. Humiliating him like that would just bring her down to her ex-husband's level.

I'm pretty sure having an abusive dad is all the "tough love" a child needs. I can't believe someone would suggest humiliating/degrading the child as a way for him to learn his lesson....

why should he repay you?? since you say his father is an abusive alcoholic, shouldn't YOU want him to have no legal rights???!

Who said anything about her wanting the kid to repay her? This has nothing to do with that at all.
