Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Today, I had an hour-long meeting with my manager where she informed me the reason I had not been promoted is because she felt that people would not like to work for me, because I would, "make them do their job." FML
Today, I had to pretend in front of our director that my manager is a nice person. In reality, she's a soul-sucking bully who has made my life so miserable that twice I was on the brink of nervous breakdown. FML
Today, despite filling all the parameters for a model employee and being praised by multiple people over the time I was working, I was fired because a client complained to my manager that I didn't seem to know what I was doing. FML
Today I was offered an opportunity on Instagram from a local lady to take photos of her home for her. I told my friends, because I was shocked. They were shocked too. But in the nicest terms possible, they were shocked because my Instagram "isn’t really professional enough to get such offers." Ouch. FML
Today, I was passed over for the job of my dreams. I now have to watch as a girl I have on Facebook - a total moron - boasts daily about scoring the position instead. Turns out the interviewer was her uncle. FML
Today, I shouldn't have told my boss that I was interested in management. She now throws any problem she doesn't want to solve at me and either gets mad when I can't work it out or takes credit when I do. FML
Today, I've been doing some of the duties of an ex-coworker who resigned a month ago. Now they've given her position to someone else, who doesn't even have the experience all because she "looks the part more." Apparently, I need to "get laser eye surgery, get on Jenny Craig, and buy 'curl tamer shampoo'" to get promoted. FML
Today, another employee scolded me for being "socially awkward". The same employee who just before had a 10 minute discussion with a client about her poop. FML
Today, my mother, who insists on sticking her nose into every aspect of my life, found out I'm only "middle management" and called my boss to criticize her for undervaluing me, demanding I be promoted immediately. I'm now the laughing stock of my office. FML
Today, I was passed over for a promotion for a role that I was acting in for a year because I'm not "qualified" for it. But I have to train the person who got the role on how to do the role that I am "not qualified for." The fuck? FML
Feel like sharing it with the other FML users?

I'm guessing she's in those schlocky Hallmark Channel movies. If that's how my acting career went, I'd probably hide in shame, too.

I’ve taken acting classes (for the stage) and always enjoyed it. It would be a fun way to make money if you made enough, and great to get recognition for your acting skills. I think I’d love being a professional actress - I just hate the idea of the fame that comes with it. I did not end up pursuing it because there are more sure-fire ways to earn money and acting is really hard to be successful on. I can imagine there’s tons of people like me who pursued it even though they’re introverts or whatever and hate dealing with that other side of it. Ok fine I have to do interviews on tv or whatever. I get to sit there with my brain going crazy running a million miles a minute trying to be funny with the late-night talk show host to drum up interest for my movie. Fine. An incidental part that I do not like about a job that I love. But now I have to ***** myself on social media too? I have to try to write things that are funny and engaging and pretend to be interested in whatever is trending even if I couldn’t give a ****? Oh I post daily so now I have to speak out on any major issue going on in the country or world and I’ll get called out if I don’t speak on it? I may have a nuanced position on something, and if my position doesn’t fit neatly into the black and white boxes that every complex issue in this complex world is now broken into, I’ll get accused of being “too woke,” out of touch, not speaking out enough, etc etc.? Allllll that shit is super stressful. I get not wanting to do it. Maybe this actress just wants to do the bare minimum, enough to get by on social media but without making herself a target. Cut her a break and try to work within her comfort zone. Yeah she’s an actress and “that’s what she signed up for” and she’s making money so why should she complain about anything and blah blah blah 🙄 but she has a right to be human who is facing an aspect she does not like about something she otherwise loves doing. See if you can work out a compromise.

I don't see the logic of people who make their living pretending to be other people sharing their real personalities. Makes no sense. It's depressing to see actors who deliver lines with such intensity and smoothness get through a real-life interview with "likes" and "ums" and the speech patterns of ordinary people.
