Today, I refused to manually count $64 in pennies from a customer, because I would hold up the line and I was one of three registers open. In fact, I advised her to use the Coinstar machine in the lobby. She refused, threw a fit and demanded my manager for being “incompetent”. I was fired. FML

A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Today, the most obnoxious customer came into my job. She surprisingly scrutinized everything I did. She even mentioned I didn’t offer our store credit card (I honestly forgot due to being overwhelmed by her rude attitude). Turns out she was a secret shopper. Apparently, I failed her little tests. I was fired. FML
Today, I rang up a customer’s items. The total came out to $24.67. She handed me a bag full of coins and looked at me expectantly. I asked if she had any other payment methods; she got irritated and said ,“If I did, I wouldn’t have given you this, stupid!” I had to count them. She was still 6 dollars short. FML
Today, a buttmunch customer brought in $7 worth of pennies I had to count and roll. As I was putting them in the deposite box at the end of my shift, I fumbled and dropped the rolls. All but one broke, spilling their contents on the floor. FML
Today, at work, I had a customer accuse me of taking the giftcard I had issued her for her return, after spending 15 minutes trying to fix her screwed up transaction. She began to yell, and follow me around the store. Security had to intervene and I had to be locked in an office until she left. FML
Today, at work, a customer asked for my number. When I declined, he made a huge scene, shouting and scaring other customers. He tipped me seven cents. FML
Today, a customer asked a question I couldn’t answer. I asked if she would wait while I consulted someone else, but she spat in my face and stormed off. My manager saw, wrote me up for refusing to help, and gave the woman a gift card for her troubles. FML
Today, at work, we had an extremely rude customer who started cussing at us, and my coworker started cussing back. I jumped on the register to quickly bring down the line, and apologized to everyone for the scene. A secret shopper was in the line and claimed that I was rude. I got written up. FML
Today, in the doughnut shop I usually go to, I bought 3 dozen to take home. A new clerk rang me up and, with an attitude, said the store is cashless only now. Despite me showing cash to pay with like I always do, I was judged by other customers as if I was a deadbeat. She then threw a fit for cancelling and returning the items. FML
Today, at my cashier job, I got written up for accepting obviously photocopied coupons. Last week, I got written up for "inadequate customer service" because I refused to accept the same bogus coupons from the same customer. FML
Today, I assisted my first customer at my first job as a Target cashier. When I rang up this lady's items and gave her the total, not only did she hiss at me and spit in my face, but she also dragged my manager over and demanded that he fire me. He did. FML

You're not legally required to accept large quantities of pennies for purchase. They made exceptions to that when some guy tried to pay the IRS in pennies out of spite over a tax disagreement. (that may be an apocryphal origin story, but it still stands)

sorry that you had an incompetent manager and had to deal with a wild Karen, if I was you I would make a complaint to his boss go above your manager let them know the situation because that's ridiculous.

no matter how annoying it may be it is your job to accept and count all legal currency for payment I understand there was a line but maybe that's all they had to pay with and the coin star fees could've made them short so maybe next time you'll learn from this and do your job even when it's tough or annoying. I've had to count over $600 in change as payment and I did it without judgement or harassment

Agreed. Even here in Canada it is general knowledge that a cashier has the right to refuse large amounts of change.

It is unbelievable that some people think the world revolves around them and they have the audacity to hold up other people's days. You did what you thought was best in the situation, I'm sorry you were fired, but in the long run, you'll be way better off not dealing with unnecessary crap, maybe even get a raise :)

Only three registers open? You must work at Walmart. If that's the case, go to corporate and file a complaint. There are a few factors here, but I don't think anything warranted a termination.
