Today, our school had tryouts for chorus. Everybody sang a snippet of the song together until the teacher stopped us, saying it sounded awful. He singled me out and told me to sing alone. After I sang the part, he said, "Son, your gift to God will be silence." FML
Collection
Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
And next on The Voice…
Today, I found out I have a bad singing voice. How? The choir judge decided to yell "STOP! Please just stop!" During my solo. In front of everyone. During the show. FML
The Sopranos
Today, I had been practicing for a solo in a choir I’m in. I finally got it down and was all ready to audition. On audition night, the choir director let me try out, then decided all the sopranos should sing it. FML
The Voice
Today, I was practicing for a choir concert that I have next week. My mom walked into my room and listened to me for a little while. After I finished the last song, she smiled, patted me on the head and said, "It's okay honey, I can't sing either." FML
Today, I was at work at a preschool. I was sitting outside with the kids and was getting bored so I started singing. One of the little girls runs up and puts her hand over my mouth and tells me to stop. I'm in a select chorus at my highschool and plan to major in choral studies in college. FML
Your song
Today, I auditioned for the musical at my school. Before I sang my song, I gave my music to the director. She said "Oh, I love this song!". After I sang it, she told me, "It's okay, I still like the song." FML
Got talent?
Today, I told my mom that I want to try out for a singing competition on TV, so I might be able to kick off my musical career. She convinced me to sing a song for her, so I did. Mid-way through, she lost it, burst into laughter, and told me to stay in school. FML
Glee
Today, I performed in my school's choir concert. The girl next to me started to pass out, and I grabbed her so she wouldn't hit her head. After we were done performing and the curtains closed, my choir teacher dragged me off stage and said I was getting an F for "creating a distraction". FML
He doesn't even go here!
Today, I had my high school piano recital. The entire time I was playing, one of my classmates sitting up front kept booing me and yelling "YOU SUCK" at the top of his lungs. He drowned out the entire song. FML
The Voice
Today, my roommate eavesdropped on me singing. When I realized he was there, he said I was "fucking incredible" and asked me to do another song. There's just one issue: I only sing well when I'm alone. The result was predictably bad. If it was possible to literally die of embarrassment, I wouldn't be writing this. FML
Today, I had my first chorus concert. We got a bigger applause when we left the stage than when we sang. FML

#2- that's really rude. I loved singing, and I would've never known that I had a bad singing voice until my sister started picking on me for it. It got so bad that I don't sing at all anymore. I mouth the lyrics. It really crushed my self esteem =/ OP- I'm sorry, your chorus teacher was rude to single you out like that.

That was a totally mean thing to do! It sounds like you have problems with pitch. The good news is that most people aren't completely tone deaf. If you are, there's no hope, but otherwise, if you really like singing, you definitely find ways to improve your abilities to carry a tune, match pitch, etc. Taking voice lessons would help. The problem is just that if you can't hear that you're not singing the same notes as everyone else, then you really can't sing in a group (or even by yourself, honestly). It would be like trying to play a guitar with one string totally out of tune - it just doesn't work. Good luck, though. If you like music, I hope you find a way to participate in it that works out!

Ha your chorus teacher sounds like Simon Cowell. But anyways, just because you didn't make chorus doesn't mean you can't still sing for your own enjoyment. If you like it you should definitely still do it. Don't ever give something up just because somebody else thinks you should. Practice makes perfect. =]

I was told as a small child that I didn't have any ability to sing (whereas my sister had a natural ability) and it ruined my self-esteem in music. I sang alone in the car and tried to match pitch as best I could, and now people tell me that I'm fairly decent (not great though). Don't let them get to you!

that sucks! maybe you need more voice lessons first?
