Today, nearly six months later, my incompetent, lazy coworker still refuses to believe I didn't screw my way to the promotion both of us were competing for. FML

Office politics
Today, my coworker threw a bitch fit about not getting a promotion she'd applied for. My other coworker had got it, so after her fit, management worked something out: they gave the promotion to her, and the coworker that originally had it was given a promotion that I'd been promised for months. Now I have none. FML
Today, I confronted my boss to find out why I was denied a promotion that she promised to me. Her response? "You should know by now I'm a liar. Not my fault if you believe the things I say." FML
Today, I finally got a promotion at work. Today I also found out that no matter how long I work, no matter how much effort and unpaid overtime I put in for 6 years, my coworkers will be convinced I only got promoted because I'm the CFO's son. FML
Today, I did my work, the work of my co-worker who called in sick and the work of my boss who has no idea what the hell is going on all at the same time. I didn't get a promotion because I don't work hard enough. FML
The grudge
Today, I was told by a former coworker that my former boss still talks about me being lazy, ever since the time I refused to do a few things on third shift when there was me and 2 other people working. I haven't worked there in 3 months. FML
Work sux
Today, my extremely lazy colleague received a promotion with benefits, while I was fired for "not being a team-player". I had stayed quiet about her constant negative behaviour because my supervisor had said we needed to "have each other's backs". While I was protecting hers, she put a knife in mine. FML
Today, after putting in 110% at my shitty job for two years straight, my boss told me point-blank I'm too good in my current position for him to ever be able to justify promoting me. FML
Today, my lazy bastard of a co-worker punched me straight in the jaw because he didn't get the promotion I did. Being his new manager, I fired him. A few hours later, I was fired for "abusing" my power. FML
Today, at a staff meeting, our boss sighed and asked why I'm always in the meetings instead of my co-worker. I reminded him that it's because I'm the department supervisor, not my co-worker. He wouldn't believe me until he saw it for himself in our personnel files. FML
Today, I worked a long shift at my job while feeling like crap, anticipating getting a promotion. As my boss was leaving work, he informed me that because I also go to college, the promotion was being given to another employee that I trained a month ago. This is the second time this has happened. Well screw him

It'd be funny if they actually did screw the boss and they're just mad that they didn't get the promotion.

Preferably not literally

Why assume it was a man? I mean you're probably right, just curious.

Dammit, I was about to comment that!

I don't think they were necessarily assuming it was a man. Male pronouns are just the standard when you don't know what to use

Well your not going to get anywhere if your lazy

Very warped sense of humour, I like it.

That made an ugly situation pretty funny.

Maybe he should look inward and find why he was passed for the promotion. It could lead him to improving and earning a promotion of his own.

Why do you assume the Co worker is a male?
ThePaperDragon 31
Why assume otherwise? An equal argument can be made for both sides unless otherwise stated by the OP.

He won't get promoted anywhere with that kind of attitude. FYL for working with such an asshole.

Why do you assume the Co worker is a male?
JosephKorso 15
People who lack motivation tend to blame others for their problems because it's easier than changing something about themselves. Don't worry about him too much, OP.
Algorithm 24
Yeah, this is his ego defending itself from having to consider why he might've been passed over for the promotion. Incidentally, that may also be part of WHY you got it instead, OP: if he deflects like this for six months, it's not a one-time incident. One of the most unappealing employees is than the person who thinks every issue is someone else's fault and treats their own mistakes accordingly.

Why do you assume it is a guy?
andrmac 25
With that kind of gossip they my find themselves unemployed if the boss finds out.
CoffeeChickBlows 13
It's funny how a lot of people are just assuming the coworker's a guy.
Algorithm 24
Yeah, I noticed this too - it confused me and I just assumed everyone was reading something I'd missed. They definitely aren't necessarily male.
Comrox 19
It's really sad that everyone is assuming the coworker is male... Nowhere in this FML did OP mention a "he." For all we know, the coworker is female. Would the replies still be the same?
Setareh23 34
I admit I assumed it was a guy at first, because I figured if the coworker thinks and accuses OP of getting the promotion due to an advantage like sleeping with the boss, then it must be an advantage he felt he was not able to have (due to being a 'he'). But you're right, maybe the coworker is a woman who is less attractive than OP, or/and is just really bitter and bitchy, or perhaps OP has a better relationship with the boss so she just assumed, etc...

Focus on the money, let him talk.
