Today, my research partner emails me 2 hours before our deadline saying that she can't complete her half of our 20 page report because when she woke up this morning she couldn't see. How did she write the email? FML

Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Great replacement
Today, my boss dropped a highly important and dense report on my desk that had to be finished by the end of the day. After the initial panic attack and hours of scrupulous work, I finished. She then asked me to pick up the revised copy, where my name was replaced with hers. FML
FIXED
Today, I pulled an all-nighter to finish an essay. I submitted it one minute before the deadline. Later, I opened the file to double-check and realized I'd uploaded my rough draft, containing notes like “THIS PART MAKES NO SENSE, FIX LATER.” The professor then replied, “I agree with your assessments.” FML
Not now, mom, I'm in pain
Today, my mom wrote me an email, asking how I was doing after an accident yesterday. I wrote back at length, telling her everything in detail. Two hours later, she calls me on the phone, asking how I am. She was simply too lazy to check her mail and expected me to tell her everything a second time. FML
Today, I turned in an essay after staying up late to work on it. I was away when the teacher assigned it, so I'd asked my friend what the subject was. It transpires that she'd given me the wrong one, all because she was mad at me for not returning her pencil. FML
Today, after retyping a 22-page report for work because the orginal had gone missing, i realized I had used a different laptop the first time. I now have 2 copies of the same report, both of which are late. FML
Today, the woman I have been seeing said she couldn't see a future with me. This was all because I didn't text her back when I fell asleep after working a double night/morning shift. FML
I'm not paid enough for this shit
Today, my boss asked me to send an email on his behalf with an important report attached. I've already received 3 responses from directors commenting on poor spelling and factual errors. I get paid 1/4 the salary of my boss and he can't even write properly. FML
Dogshit code
Today, one of my colleagues was asked to rewrite an entire project, which I wrote last week. I'd spent more than 4 days writing it. FML
Today, my mom woke me up in the middle of the night to make me help my brother write an essay. I read what he wrote so far, gave him my suggestions, and went back to bed. She woke me up 30 mins later because he just sat and stared at his paper instead of fixing anything. Somehow that's my fault. FML
Today, I got a text just before class that my partner didn't finish their half of our 30 page research paper because: "That class is stupid." FML

Why should he have to babysit her? She's old enough to do it herself without someone having to check up on her.

The OP never said how much the partner had left to do. Maybe she DID only have 80% left or something like that. Don't assume she hadn't even started or something like that.

YDI for not checking up on your research partner & making sure she was doing her 1/2 of the assignment.

Bottom line is if the partner did not complete their portion of the work when it is due (regardless if they only had around 80% or less remaining), then that means the project as a whole is incomplete and will more than likely result in a failing grade for OP and her. I can almost guarantee that the project probably has a huge weight on the semester grade (something like 15-30% of the overall grade) and that the project was originally assigned at least three weeks before this point. It is a wise move, especially in projects involving 2 or more people, to make sure you are aware of the project status at regular intervals (i.e. at least twice a week). Scheduling and prioritizing sections to be completed before group meetings also help keep things from going to s**t two hours before the project is due.

Like several previous commenters have said, it's your damn fault for not following up beforehand. Hopefully the prof is understanding that your partner bailed on you...

That sucks. I wake up some mornings and can't see. Well, I can but ... it's wierd. It's like there's a blinding glare off of everything. I don't really know how to explain it so I don't make a point of using it as an excuse. Next time be a bit more on the ball with your project and partner?

You have written proof that your partner bailed on finishing her part of the project and only gave you 2 hours notice. So hand that in with your part and explain to the prof. what happened. Over the years they've dealt with partners that don't do their parts and so they are usually understanding. For all saying you didn't keep track of what your partner was doing, sometimes the more you push the more they get annoyed and dont want to do their part. Working together might not have been an option either. With class schedules and work schedules its hard to meet with a partner.

I have to agree with the commenter's who say FYL. You can 'check up' on your partner all you want for this project, but they can still lie to you and tell you that they almost have it completed or are still working on it. I had this happen to me not in college but at work once. We had to write a progress report on a project. When the time came around to present it, my 'diligent' colleague who was a couple pages away from completing his part in the report magically wasn't able to provide ANYTHING. Look, forward this to your professor as a digital copy and even print it out and bring it to class and call your partner out on it in class to the professor. It's a pathetic excuse to bail on a paper. If you don't want to do homework, don't go to college.
