Today, my mother sat me down to tell me that since coming home from college, I sounded like "a liberated woman." She was disappointed and disturbed by this, and said that I should stop having strong opinions and ideals because it would make finding a husband for me difficult. FML
Collection
Halloween
A failed costume, stolen candy and a very real scare: Halloween, the one night when fear is allowed.
Same thing different taste
Upfront
Today, I had to explain to my mother that a lace mini-dress with an obscene amount of cleavage was not appropriate to wear while meeting my boyfriend's parents. She called me an "annoying prude" and said that with my attitude, I don't deserve to have a man. FML
Mom knows best
Today, my mom once again told me that I'm too young and immature to get married, and that I don't know what love is. I'm 29, have a successful career, own my own home, and am financially stable. FML
Today, I finally thought that my mother was okay with me being a lesbian. Then, over dinner, she turns to me and says, "So, do you still think you like girls, or are you going to start being normal again?" FML
Just the tip
Today, my mother is mad at me because I dared, yes DARED, to go out with a girl who stands up to her instead of just meekly doing what she tells her. Which should tell you exactly what sort of woman my mother is, so you know this FML is just the tip of my lifelong misery iceberg. FML
Fake it til you make it
Today, I went out to dinner with my mom and several of her friends. My mom spent the entire night gushing about my Ivy League school and med student boyfriend. I attend a state university and I'm single. She threatened to cut me off if I didn't play along. FML
Today, I was talking with my mother and expressed my slight disappointment at how many of my friends are getting into relationships, whereas I'm still single. My mother decided to encourage me by saying "Don't worry, sweetie. There are boys out there who don't go for looks. You'll be fine". FML
Controlling
Today, my mom was helping me plan for going to college. After 30 minutes of me getting more upset, and her getting more frustrated, she directed me to Tinder, a wedding venue website, and the local address for Planned Parenthood. Her actual words were, "There's no shame in being a stay at home dad these days." FML
What did I say, Roy?
Today, my wife said I was being difficult and unreasonable, and called my mother to talk to me about my behaviour. What did I do, you ask? I dared to share my opinion on something I happen to feel strongly about, instead of just mindlessly agreeing with her opinion like I have for the past 22 years. FML
Higher standard
Today, my mother described what her ideal daughter-in-law should be like. Halfway through her description, fishing for some compliments, I told her that such a girl would be way above my league. She sighed and emphatically agreed. FML
Today, my mother told me I should think about quitting school. She explained that the reason was because she didn't want me to be more successful than my older sisters. FML

Don't stop being "a liberated woman" everyone should use their brains and being willing to speak in a peaceful manor and have discussions on issues. Besides I would rather date a woman that can tell me that I am wrong and then we can discuss why I am wrong and find common ground. Keep it up, your doing the right thing.

Oof. I'm sorry. Why is it that now-a-days, opinions are being repressed? I'm seeing that more and more often.

For clarification, the comment was directed at 171. Al Qaeda was responsible, but the individuals who carried out the act were exiled Iranians that had received their training in Iran. Not Afghanistan or Iraq. Lacey, I agree with your sentiments completely. The nesting system for comments on this site is abysmal.

having strong opinions is great, but being over-feminist is stupid. equality between sexes isn't about having the *same* rights, it's about giving the fair rights to both sexes. if you have a bra and a jockstrap, you give the bra to the lady, and the jockstrap to the guy, you don't have to give the same thing to both sexes just to be *equal*. feminism is overrated. (i am a female.)

I'm sorry I didn't realize that gender roles needed to be followed, as they definitely are not an oppressive, binary, and stereotypical system that does harm to society as a whole.

I'm a 18 year old Arabic girl living in the us. I was born and raised in Palestine, I find the OP situation kind of weird because Arabic parents usually likes their kids especially their daughters to be educated. My mom always tell me that my only weapon is my education, she always tell me not to think of marriage until I'm done with college and to be independent before i do so and to make sure hes the right one. For those who are being racist to Arabic people, your thought of us aren't true, I think Arabic people treat their wives, mother and sisters like princesses. They treat them better then boys, because they send Arabic girls to college and let the boys work in gas stations etc.... for example: My sister is a doctor and my brother owns a gas station, and all the Arabic girls I know are very educated and independent, so plz don't judge us without really knowing us!!

One more thing in my religion which is (Islam) The first thing god told us to do is to read meaning to get educated, and to prove it here is surah its called iqraa from the qoraan (Islamic holy book) translated into english, (Recite in the name of your Lord who created. Created man from a clinging substance. Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous. Who taught by the pen. Taught human that which they knew not. [Surah Iqraa, verses)

Don't think of me as religious because I'm not near religious, I don't even pray but I surly hate people offending my race and religion, but I sure know my religion and it only thought me to love and respect! Nothing that you hear on the media is true, you need to be open-minded, and if you think of us as terrorist then how come we don't think of you as terrorist when we hear all kinds of stories everyday about people killing each other and murder each other because its not about religion or race! In Islam if you kill someone you'll go straight to hell, religion should be judged based on people.
