Today, my mom booked a family trip to Sweden. This would be great, if she hadn't asked me to tell our former German exchange student that we were coming to visit her in Germany. She was thrilled. Now I have to be the one to let her down. FML

Fall
Dead leaves, the first cold of the season and an umbrella flipped inside out: fall, the season of grace.
Same thing different taste
You really shouldn't have
Today, I was awakened by knocking on my door, only to find my parents standing there. Turns out, they booked two one-way tickets to visit me from another country. Their plan? I should scrap my upcoming 2-week vacation to hang out because they invested in this trip. Oh, and they didn't book a hotel. I'm 31. FML
Today, my mother told me that I could take a friend on vacation with us. Then she added that because I have no friends, my brother can bring his girlfriend instead. FML
Narcissism in a nutshell
Today, my boyfriend's family offered me the trip of a lifetime visiting their families overseas. My mother threw a tantrum, telling me that it was my fault that she was never able to travel, it was my fault that she got pregnant with me and had to marry my abusive father. FML
You'll understand when you're older
Today, my mom told me the night before our school trip that I’m not going so she could get a refund. Now I have to stay alone with my mom for a week, while my friends are having the time of their life in NYC. FML
No fun
Today, I was helping my mom pack for our family vacation. We were both talking about how excited we were, when she turned to me and said, "Would you be offended if I asked you not to come? It's just… I want to have fun." FML
Moving on
Today, I found out that I was moving to Germany. I'm going to be put back a year in school because of the system change. I also don't speak a word of German. Why? Because my mother wants to brag about this experience to her friends. FML
Gonna make things awkward
Today, while planning for our trip next spring, my friend told me that she's decided that her mom is coming with us. It’s non-negotiable. FML
Kids will be kids
Today, my daughter told me she is pregnant. The father is the foreign exchange student who just moved back to Germany. FML
Big Brother is watching you
Today, my boyfriend came to visit from another state. My mom didn't want me to go to his hotel, but I did. When she asked about it, I lied to her and said I didn't go. She the showed me a picture of my car outside his hotel. FML
Today, I talked to my mom about hanging out with her. She got out her phone to schedule an appointment. FML

Yeah because any one can just get up and take a trip to another country on a dime

#50 yes. EU. Also it's not that far.

50, a quick and cheap train ride is all they'd need to see one another. It's relatively easy to visit multiple countries when in Europe, it just takes time.

I don't think the mother actually mixed up germany with sweden, but more likely she just changed plans were to go on holiday.

Ah, true. When I first read it I took it as the mom thinking Sweden and Germany were the same.

11- It was sarcasm and mimicry, my sweet summer child.

My sweet summer child? What u just call me?
XPhoenixFire 17
#42, i believe it's a Game of Thrones reference where summer lasts a lot longer than it does in our world. So a child that was born during the summer where its nice and peaceful, unlike their brutal winter, is sometimes called a "summer child." (Their summer can last multiple years). Or at least that's what i understood. TL;DR Its pretty much like saying you're innocent

That's disappointing, but you can always visit again another time, or try to make a side trip while you're in Sweden. I'm an exchange student now so I know how it feels to have friends in other parts of the world :)

See if it may be possible for her to come with you guys to Sweden? Shot in the dark but it's the only thing I can think of.

Ouch! I'm sorry for you and the former exchange student, OP. Maybe a halfway point could be arranged without major disappointment?

Why'd they tell her that, that's just pure dumb, damn.

There's only Denmark between Sweden and Germany so like 3-4h

Three to four hours is just from border to border. Even from the northern part of Germany like Hamburg or Berlin it's easily 10 or 12 hours to Stockholm and much more to the northern part of Sweden where you can see the midnight sun, which is one of the most common reasons to visit Sweden at this time of the year.
Sillsallad 15
What midnight sun? The sun don't rise at all in the north this time of year ^^
buonotomato 20
#25 Shouldn't it be the Northern Lights? The midnight sun occurs during summertime. Like #45 said, the sun rises very little if at all in the northern parts of Sweden during winter.

Sorry, I thought about the aurora and in a hurry I wrote midnight sun. Of course the midnight sun would be visible in summer.
